Do you have a headache? Eat some bird brains for dinner, and your headache will go away. Is your hair turning gray? Eat black rice every day. And you won't have gray hair.

Eat bird brains and black rice? "Some people ask. "How strange!" But for many Chinese people, bird brains and black rice are not strange things to eat, they are good things to eat. They are good medicines, too.

Many Chinese believe that food can be medicine. Food that is medicine is called medicinal food. The Chinese have eaten medicinal food and spices(調(diào)味料)for hundreds of years. Ginger(姜), for example, is a common spice in Chinese cooking now. Ginger gives food a nice favor(味道). The Chinese began to use ginger many years ago. At that time, they used ginger not because it tasted good. They used it because it was medicinal Ginger, they thought, was good for the digestion (消化). It also helped people who had colds.

Not everyone approves of the medicinal food. Some people think that food and spices are not medicines. They want to buy their medicine in drug stores, not in supermarkets. Other people want to try medicinal food. They say, "Maybe medicinal food can't help me, but it can't hurt me, either.”

People can try medicinal food at a Chinese restaurant in San Francisco, California .The restaurant serves only medicinal food. Queen's Secret", for example, is one dish at the restaurant. Meat from a chicken with black skin is in the dish. It is for women who want to look young.

Alan Lau is the owner of the restaurant,, He says, "Some people try medicinal food only once and then say, 'It didn't work. But think about this: When your doctor prescribes (開(kāi)藥方) medicine. you take the medicine for five days, or for ten days, or maybe for weeks. It's the same with medicinal food. You have to eat the food many times before it begins to help. "Mr. Lau believes that medicinal food works, he eats medicinally every day.

A feral child is a child who, from a young age, has lived with animals in the wild. What makes wild animals adopt these children and raise them as their own is a mystery. Since feral children have often had no contact with humans for a long time, they may be more like wild animals than people. Their stories, although often upsetting can teach us how people learn and use language — and perhaps even what it means to be human.

In Uganda in 1991, a tribeswoman saw a naked boy living with a troop of wild monkeys in the jungle. The woman was shocked and quickly told the people in her village about the boy. When they tried to take him away from the monkeys, the frightened boy threw sticks at them and climbed up a tree to hide. The monkeys fought fiercely, trying to stop the tribesmen from taking him away, but they did not succeed.

After his "rescue", the boy was taken to Kamuzinda Chritan Orphanage, outside Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. He was identified as John Ssabunnya, a boy who had disappeared three years earlier after his mother was murdered and his father went missing. John was only two years old when he disappeared.

John couldn't speak when he arrived at the orphanage. It was obvious that he did not know how to act in a human way-- he knew only how to behave like a monkey. However, he soon began to talk and was found to have a beautiful singing voice.

John shot to fame at the age of fourteen, when he toured the UK with a children's choir(合唱隊(duì)). "His is a remarkable story. One day it could even be made into a film.” said tour organizer Hillary Cook.

1.The underlined word "had no contact with" in paragraph 1 is closest to________.

A.had no patience with B.had no communication with

C.had no quarrel with D.had no choice but stay with

2.What can we learn from Hillary Cook's words in the last paragraph?

A.John could not act like a human. B.John's experience is quite unusual.

C.John is like other boys in the choir. D.People saved John and protected him.

3.It can be inferred from the passage that________.

A.feral children are born with the talent to talk with animals

B.feral children are sure to be back to the human community

C.all feral children can be successful after living with humans

D.the study of feral children may help the research on language

4.The writer organizes the passage by_________.

A.using numbers B.showing opinions C.telling a story D.listing reasons

In his book The Five Love Languages, Gary Chapman explains that we give and receive love in five ways. Each way is a “l(fā)ove language”. When two people speak different love languages, they can be unhappy because they don’t understand each other. To form strong relationships, we need to understand how we express love and how people we love express their love, too. So, what are the five love languages?

1. Words of affirmation This love language uses words to show love. “I love you”, “You look good in that dress”, “You can always make me laugh”...

2. Quality time It means giving someone our full attention. Not watching TV together, but talking and listening to each other. Or just going out for a walk together.

3. Receiving gifts A present tells us: “He (or she) is thinking about me.” The gift does not have to be expensive, perhaps their favorite chocolate or a beautiful leaf you found.

4. Acts of service “________A__________” People speaking this love language do things for you, for example: helping you with the heavy work, getting you a cup of hot tea, singing a song to relax you, etc.

5. Physical touch Patting shoulders, holding hands, hugs...without these, people who speak a “physical touch language” will feel unloved.

We all are loved, but sometimes we just don’t know it. That’s because we don’t understand other people’s love languages. But it’s good to start with yourself. Do you know your own love language?

1.What should you do to feel yourself loved according to the passage?

A.Give others more help B.Send others more gifts

C.Know others’ love languages D.Hold hands with more people

2.You can express your love to someone by doing the following things EXCEPT ________.

A.You send your best friend a birthday card made by yourself with your best wishes.

B.You kiss your mom when you go back home from school.

C.You listen to your grandpa telling the same old story again and again.

D.You tell your friend that she doesn’t look good in that shirt.

3.What are “words of affirmation” like?

A.They are encouraging and positive. B.They are disappointing and negative.

C.They are exciting and surprising. D.They are meaningless and heartless.

4.What can be put in ____A______ ?

A.Nothing is impossible for a willing heart.

B.Where there is a will, there is a way.

C.Actions speak louder than words.

D.Practice makes perfect.
