Rainforests cover(覆蓋) 6% of the Earth’s surface(表面). There are rainforests in many parts of the world, but the biggest forests are in South America, Africa and South East Asia. There aren’t any rainforests in Europe or North America.
About 75% of all the kinds of animals that we know come from rainforests. Thousands and thousands of animals live in rainforests. There are many beautiful birds, insects(昆蟲) and reptiles(爬行動物). Many of them live in the trees, more than 30 metres from the ground. There are also thousands of different plants—and lots of them are tall trees! It is always hot in a rainforest and the ground is always wet. It is also dark there.
The rainforests are very important for us. Without rainforests , we can’t live ! The trees and other plants in the forest help to make the air that we breathe(呼吸). They also help to change the weather .They give us wood, rubber, fruits and many of our medicines.
Sadly(遺憾的), in many places, the rainforests are in danger. For example(例如), many years ago there was a large rainforest in Java. There were thousands of different plants and animals in the forest, but now there is nothing. People cut down the trees to grow rice. They also wanted to grow rubber trees to make rubber. Many animals lived in the rainforest. Some of them went to other parts of Java but many of them disappeared(消失) - forever. The same thing is happening now in many other parts of the world.
The good news is that there are a lot of people who want to help save(挽救) rainforests. The bad news is that it is not going to be easy. It will need many people to work together . Here is something we can do to help:
▲Teach others about the importance(重要性)of the rainforests and how they can help save rainforests.
▲Plant more trees on land .
▲Ask people to live in a way that is good to rainforests.
▲Build parks to protect(保護) animals and plants.

Compared with cars, bicycles truly have many advantages. Riding bikes not only does good to people's health but also makes it possible to move easily past heavy traffic.
So, here comes James Starley, a British inventor and producer who is widely considered to be the father of the bicycle industry. His inventions and improvements made the bicycle available for wide spread.
James Starley was born on April 21, 1831. In his early years, he worked in the Coventry Sewing Machine(縫紉機) Company. And there, Starley tried to work out improvements to the early sewing machines, and his own invention, “The European" really helped a lot.
In 1868, Starley saw his first bicycle, a French velocipede(腳踏兩輪車), weighing as much as 160 pounds. The two—wheeled, rider—propelled(人驅(qū)動的) wooden bicycle required the rider to use his own feet to move the bicycle along. In 1869, the Coventry Sewing Machine Company decided to produce bicycles based on a worker, Rowley B. Turner's suggestion. What Starley first managed to do is cut off part of the weight of the velocipedes. Then, he invented the Coventry Model, and he won his place as the father of the modern bicycle. Next, Starley invented the Ariel bicycle.
In 1870, he went into business for himself. The Ariel, his lightweight all metal bicycle was first sold in 1871, to be the first true bicycle. It was the first two—wheeled self—propelled bicycle.
Later, Starley introduced what was to be his greatest contribution (貢獻) to the bicycle development. His Tangent bicycle, introduced in 1874, made the wheels far stronger than earlier models. Putting all of the earlier advantages into one four—wheeled machine, Starley next produced the Salvo which was believed to be his creative masterpiece.
Though auto(機動的) industry has been rapidly developed, bicycles are still playing a important role in people's daily transportation.
