Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don’t give friendship(友誼) back. That is why some friendships don’t last(持續(xù)) very long. To have a friend, you must learn to treat (對待)your friend the way you want your friend to treat you. Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules: be honest; be generous;be understanding.

Honesty means being honest. It is where a good friendship starts. Friends must be able to trust one another. If you don’t tell the truth, people usually find out. If a friend finds out that you haven’t been honest, you may lose your friend’s trust. Good friends always count on(依賴) one another to speak and act honestly.

Generosity means sharing and sharing makes a friendship grow. You don’t have to give your friend your lunch money or your clothes, or enjoy your hobbies and interests together. Naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. These can be very valuable(有價(jià)值的) to a friend. They tell your friend what is important to you. By sharing them, you help your friend know you better.

Sooner or later everyone needs understanding and help with a problem. Something may go wrong at school. Talking about the problem can make it easier to solve . Turning to a friend can be a first step in solving the problem. So to be a friend, you must listen and understand. You must try to put yourself in your friend’s place, so you can understand the problem better.

No two friendships are ever exactly alike (相同). But all true friendships have three things in common(共同的). If you plan to keep your friendships, you must practice honesty,Generosity and understanding.

1. Some friendships don’t last very long because .

A. there are too many people who want to make friends

B. they don’t know friendship is something serious

C. those who give others friendships receive friendships from others

D. they don’t return friendship to each other.

I arrived in the UK last weekend to learn English. So far I have already made a few friends and had some traditional English food there. But after having three days of hamburgers, sandwiches and potatoes, I thought none could be more delicious than Chinese food, especially my favorite —huo guo. You can't imagine how excited I was when I got to know that there was going to be a free meal of hotpot to welcome the new students. On the way to the canteen, I seemed to smell huo guo in the air.

To my surprise, when I stepped into the room, I didn't see any sign of huo guo. Where was it?

With many questions in my head, I sat down to have the free meal. After talking with an English girl, I got to know that Chinese huo guo is completely different from hotpot. Chinese huo guo is written in two words-hot pot; and hotpot, one word, is a traditional English dish.

Hotpot is made from mutton and onion. On the top are pieces of potatoes. People put it in the oven all day in a heavy pot on a low heat. It takes very little effort to prepare. You can often see it at parties in the UK because it's easy to prepare for a large number of people and is not expensive.

Hotpot doesn't taste bad. However, I still miss huo guo-hot pot, two words!

1.The writer felt excited when she learnt she would _______.

A. learn English in the UK

B. meet some new friends

C. have hamburgers and potatoes

D. have her favorite food

2. The underlined word "canteen" means a place for people to _______.

A. play sports

B. have parties

C. have food and drink

D. buy books and magazines

3.Hotpot is often prepared for parties because it is_______.

A. very p opular B. quite expensive

C. easy to prepare D. good for health

4.After the free meal, the writer learnt that_______.

A. "hotpot" wasn't "hot pot"

B. hotpot took little time to cook

C. hotpot wasn't traditional in the UK

D. the English girl knew little about hotpot

閱讀短文,根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答問題。

There are many benefits of reading books. Unfortunately, in this day and age, not a lot of people take the time to read them anymore. But that doesn't change the fact that you're missing out on a lot of wonderful benefits! Read on to learn the various benefits of reading books!

It Feeds Your Mind.

Obviously, reading books provides you with new knowledge. Whenever you read something, you learn new information that you otherwise would not have known.

It can be a fact about history or a theory you did not know existed. If you want to learn new words in particular, reading books is a great way to enrich your vocabulary.

It Keeps Your Brain In Shape.

Reading also keeps your mind in good condition. Similar to solving puzzles,

reading books allows your mind to practice its processing skills.

Going without books for too long will turn your mind to mush (玉米面粥). I'm not

kidding! Why do you think they call television the boob tube?

It Develops Your Critical Thinking Skills.

One of the primary benefits of reading books is its ability to develop your critical

thinking skills. Reading mystery novels, for example, sharpens (使敏銳)your mind. Whenever you are faced with a similar problem in real life, your mind is now able to put its mystery-solving prowess to a test.

It Makes You More Articulate.

There's nothing quite like reading books to help you become a better conversationalist. Seeing how words are used (and how sentences are structured) with your own eyes helps you commit the information to memory better than by listening to a teacher discuss the points in class.

It Is Easy To Get To.

One of the great benefits of reading books is that the information in it can be read over and over again. When you're following a recipe, for example, reading a cookbook allows you the luxury(享受)of reviewing the processes and the ingredients whenever you need to.

These are just some of the wonderful benefits of reading books. Why don’t you drop by the bookstore or library and pick a book up? If you can’t even go outside, you can download free e-books on line and read them on your computer.

1.Are there many benefits of reading books?

2.How many benefits does the writer mention?

3.Why does reading books feed our mind?

4.What is the primary benefit of reading books?

5.What is the purpose of this passage?
