科目:初中英語(yǔ) 來(lái)源:2016屆江蘇無(wú)錫璜塘、峭岐九年級(jí)上學(xué)期12月聯(lián)考英語(yǔ)試卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

A situation in which a student is troubled by his parents asking him to go into a job area that makes good money but he doesn’t want to go into, is a bad situation. The question is whether he should go into this job or not.

To start with, you need to go for what is best for YOU, even if there would be some negative(消極的)results. You can’t be happy if you don’t make decisions that are right for you. If you do not make your own decisions and make decisions that will be good for you, your life would be a big lie to yourself, which is not a sign that you have done something you wanted to do.

Living a lie would not be a very good life. The truth is much better than living a lie. If your whole life is a lie, then it is not a very beautiful life at all. In the song Lyin’ Eyes, the woman is living a lie by pretending(假裝)she loves the old man, while in reality she was just in it for money. As a result, her life is miserable(悲慘的) and a big lie.

And finally, money cannot buy happiness. A good example of this is also from the song Lyin’ Eyes. The only reason why the woman married the old man was for the money and gifts she would receive. This results in her life are not happy at all. This just goes to show that no matter how much money you have, your life still might not be happy. It takes a lot more than a bunch of green paper to make your life a good one.

In conclusion, doing what you want is best. If you don’t do what you want to, you won’t be happy with your life.

Don Ritchie, a famous Australian man. For nearly 50 years, he successfully stopped 160 people from killing themselves at a cliff(懸崖) called ‘the Gap’ – with just a kind word and a smile.

Ritchie had served in the Royal Australian Navy during World War II. In 1964, he moved into a house on Old South Head Road. He began saving strangers soon after.

Ritchie was a real gentleman who purposely chose to live right across the street from ‘the Gap’, just because he wanted to continue saving lives. He would wake up every morning and look out of the window for anyone standing too close to the edge of the cliff. If he saw someone and thought they might jump, he would simply walk over with a smile and say, “Is there something I could do to help you?” That sounds very simple, but it worked – Ritchie tried to have a talk with these people and ended up inviting them back to his house for tea or breakfast.

In 2006, Ritchie was given the Medal of the Order of Australia for all his saving lives. In 2010, he and his wife were named Woollahra Council’s citizens of the year and in 2011, he was given the Local Hero Award for Australia by the National Australia Day Council.

In a situation where most would turn a blind eye, Don has taken action. With such simple actions Don has saved a number of lives. Don’s story touched the hearts of all Australians and challenged us to rethink what it means to be a good neighbor.
