【題目】Think of a simple object—a piece of chalk, for example. Are you remembering its name, its shape, its color or its size? Are you remembering what it is used for,or the sound it makes when the teacher writes on the blackboard?Scientists say that memory includes different parts of the brain, such as language and the ability of sense. They believe that you begin to create a memory when you notice something you’re your senses .Then.messages are sent to different brain cells, which join together to form connections.A new connection goes into your short—term memory. It is stored there for about 30 seconds, and then it is either lost or stored in your long—term memory.

Having a good memory means making lots of connections and storing them in your long—term memory. To do this, you need to keep your brain in good shape.Eat plenty of brain food such as fish oil, fruit and vegetables.Laughter also makes your brain more active. Also, don’t forget to exercise. So do some sports or just move around a lot in the house. Finally, get plenty of sleep. This will make your memories grow stronger.

When you want to remember new information, you must pay special attention.Use your senses--sight,smell,hearing and touch-and keep repeating the information. To do well in your exams this year, turn off the TV,silence your mobile, and review your work regularly. To remember something special, use your imagination to create visual(視覺的)connections. For example, you need to take a pencil,an eraser, your ID card and chips to your next exam.Imagine the ID card as the body of an animal, the pencil its long neck, and the eraser its head.Your animal is hungry,so now imagine it eating a bag of chips. It may sound crazy, but its fun and it works.Another way is to do something different to your room.Turn a picture upside-down,or tie a sock around the door handle to remind(提醒)yourself of something to remember!

【題目】Snowy was a little cat. He lived with a little old lady who loved Snowy very much. Sometimes the old lady would sit in her rocking chair, rocking backwards and forwards until she fell asleep or sometimes she would play little tunes(曲子) on her piano.

One sunny day, Snowy jumped up on the window sill(窗臺). Snowy wanted to go out and play with the pretty butterflies, but the window was shut and the old lady had fallen asleep in her rocking chair.

He ran to the door but that was shut, too. He sat down near the old lady's feet and said,“Miaou?” That was his way of saying, “May I go out to play, please?” The old lady didn't hear him but stayed fast asleep.

He rubbed his soft head against the old lady's legs. Still the old lady slept. So Snowy sat down and thought hard. Then he had an idea. He would jump up on the piano and play a tune. That might wake her up. So Snowy jumped up onto the piano and was a little scared of the loud, big, deep drum sound he made as he landed.

He took another little step. It wasn't quite such a loud note(調(diào)子). Up and down the notes he walked until he reached the very high notes which sounded like lots of bells. But the old lady woke up.

“What are you doing, Snowy?” She asked but she wasn't angry. “Miaou,” said Snowy, running to the closed door. “How clever you are to wake me up by playing the piano!” said the old lady as she let Snowy out into the sunshine.

【題目】Study hard. Get plenty of sleep. Eat a good breakfast. Each of these things can help students do their best on exams. Now scientists say another thing might also influence students’ test scores. Students in stuffier (通風(fēng)不暢的) classrooms did worse on tests than students in buildings with fresher air, new research (研究) found.

Opening windows can help provide fresh air. Some buildings also use fans to bring in outdoor air. Each time someone breathes, he or she breathes out CO2. When rooms are stuffy, the level of CO2 in those rooms can build up. A 2012 study showed that college students had more difficulty giving all their attention to their learning when indoor CO2 levels were high. And other research has found that primary school students in stuffier classrooms stayed homesick (想家的) more often. In a different study, researchers examined the air quality (質(zhì)量) in 100 fifth-grade classrooms. They found that in most classrooms, the air quality did not meet the standards (標(biāo)準(zhǔn)).

These same research groups now find that better air is connected with better test scores too. As part of the research, Richard Shaughnessy measured CO2 levels inside and out of 140 fifth-grade classrooms at 70 schools. The CO2 levels helped them know how much fresh air was running through each classroom. The quality of indoor air in each classroom was then compared to its students, scores on a Maths test. Overall, the average score for this test was 2,286 points. But kids in classrooms with the best air quality scored about 144 points higher than students breathing the stuffiest indoor air. The study shows that air quality and test scores are really connected, but the influence is small.

1The findings of the new research mainly show the importance of _______.

A. hard work B. enough sleep

C. fresh air D. healthy eating

2What did the author want to show by mentioning a 2012 study?

A. College students studied in stuffy classrooms.

B. High indoor CO2 levels harmed students1 health.

C. College students had difficulty in focusing in class.

D. High indoor CO2 levels harmed college students’ learning.

3What can we learn from the passage?

A. Opening windows and using fans can reduce the level of CO2 in the air.

B. The level of CO2 will be higher when there are more people in a stuffier room.

C. Students studying in stuffier classrooms cannot get good test scores.

D. The air quality will seriously influence students’ scores.

4What is the main idea of the passage?

A. Many classrooms lack fresh air.

B. Stuffy classrooms lead to problems.

C. Stuffy classrooms may lower test scores.

D. CO2 in classrooms leads to poor performance.

【題目】Dear Sunday Globe

I am writing to tell you about your article Smartphones Make Life Easier in last Sunday’s newspaper. You did an excellent job explaining the good points of smartphones, but you didn’t talk about their bad points at all. So, I hope you’ll let me give your readers some advice on smartphone etiquette(禮儀).

The first point I’d like to address is loudness. When you talk on your smartphone in public, please don’t shout. In fact, the microphones in smartphones are very sensitive(靈敏的). So, you can be heard even if you speak quietly.

Another point is about personal space. I don’t think it is polite to make calls in small spaces full of people. This makes others uncomfortable and forces them to listen to your personal business. What’s worse, it stops many facetoface conversations from ever beginning.

Lastly, doing two things at the same time is dangerous. For example, making calls while driving is a bad habit. Pay attention to the road! Similarly, when staying with your friends, turn off your smartphone and enjoy their company.

Yours truly,

Amber Jala

1Amber Jala wrote the letter to ________.

A. find a good job

B. provide advice

C. make her life easier

D. buy a smartphone

2What does the underlined word “address” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?

C. 陳述 D. 選址

3What can we learn from the last paragraph?

A. It is dangerous to drive on the road.

B. It is easy to start a company with others.
