【題目】 How about forgetting bad memories?
Can we forget bad memories? Someone might tell you that time is the only “cure”. But this might be not true.
Researchers at Canada's McGill University have tested a pill that can help you forget bad memories. They tested it on 60 people and found it to be useful.
All 60 people had experienced painful romantic relationships and wanted to forget them. In the study, they were asked to write about these bad memories. Then, they took a pill that is usually used to treat high blood pressure (血壓). They then recalled their bad memories by reading what they wrote earlier. In the end, they talked about their feelings, saying that they were finally able to forget their bad experiences.
Dr. Alain Brunet, who led the study, believes that the pill can ease(緩解)the pain that bad memories bring. People can take it after bad things happen to them.
How did the pill do this? In fact, your memories change all the time. They’re like papers on your computer. Every time you recall and "open” the papers, you might happen to make some changes and "save" them. Researchers believe that the pill can stop something in the brain from "re-saving" these memories. This means some details of the memory are lost.
However, there are some ethical (倫理的)worries about this treatment. Some people might use it to forget things that they should be learning from, such as when they did a crime.
A11 of us can think of bad events in our lives that were terrible at the time but make us who we are. They also help us all avoid the mistakes of the past. I'm not sure we want to erase those memories, said Rebecca Dresser, a medical ethicist.
How do we form memories?
The part of our brain known as the hippocampus (海馬體)is important for forming new memories. Scientists found it after studying a patient named Henry Molaison in the 1950s. After Molaison's hippocampus got hurt during an operation, he couldn't store new memories. But he could remember memories from before the operation. This means long-term memories are stored outside the hippocampus. Scientists believe they are stored in the neocortex(新皮質(zhì)),which controls attention and planning.

【題目】Future astronauts could travel with emotional support robots
To help astronauts of the future survive(幸免于) the mental(精神的) challenges that come with staying in space for quite a long time, space travelers’ tasks could soon be accompanied(陪伴) by AI-powered, empathetic(有同理心的,同感的) robotic helpers.
Not only does space travel present astronauts with lots of physical stresses, spending months or years in such a physically demanding(要求高的) place with limited space and the same people can also raise many mental tests as well. According to MIT Technology Review, scientists are working to alleviate astronauts from some of the latter challenges by creating “an AI assistant that’s able to feel human emotion and respond(做出反應(yīng)) with empathy.”
While such a technology would prove itself useful by being able to predict the needs of the crew members in space and “intervene(干預(yù)) if their mental health is in danger,” it has the potential to be life-saving when humans choose to explore beyond Earth’s gravitational field(引力場(chǎng)) and towards deep space.
Though astronauts currently on the International Space Station have an intelligent robot to interact with called CIMON, it is short of proper emotional intelligence according to NASA CTO Tom Soderstrom. As a result, a team at the organization’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory is working on a more complex(復(fù)雜的) emotional support companion that can control a spacecraft’s functioning in addition to tracking the crew members’ behaviours.
Right now in the lab, an AI-equipped robot called Henry the Helper can be found walking around the grounds assisting visitors who appear confused or lost based on their facial expression. Two more emotionally intelligent robots are expected to be introduced later this year, one of which is said to be able to take part in conversations more complex than giving navigation(導(dǎo)航) assistance.
The team’s final goal is to make a companion named Fiona the Future a reality, an emotionally intelligent cross-platform system. Fiona, if all goes according to the JPL’s plans, will help keep astronauts of the future stay mentally fit as they start their journeys to deep space.

【3】Which of the following is NOT true about the future AI helpers?
A.They will be able to know human emotion by feeling.
B.They will be able to control the crew members’ behaviours.
C.They will be able to guess what the crew members want.
D.They will be able to join in the conversations with the crew members.

【題目】Differences between colds and flu
Both colds and influenza(flu)(流感) are caused by viruses and the two illnesses can have similar symptoms(癥狀). At first it can be difficult to tell the difference. In general, the symptoms of influenza are more serious and last longer than those of a cold.
The main difference between cold and flu symptoms is that flu more commonly includes fever: the fever can be 38℃ or higher and last for 3-5 days. The great tiredness caused by flu can last for weeks while cold symptoms are generally not serious and last for about 1 week. Also, runny nose is more common with cold than flu. Vomiting(嘔吐) is another key difference: vomiting is not usually connected with the common cold but can be found in flu.
Although the differences above are generally true, it is impossible to know for sure if it is flu or cold. For example, it is possible to have flu without fever.
①
Antibiotics(抗生素) don’t work against a cold or flu because they attack bacteria(細(xì)菌) instead of rinses, You can treat yourself at home by
getting plenty of rest and sleep (this means staying home from work or school)
drinking plenty of fluids (especially water)
and if you have a sore throat, eating soft foods that are easy to swallow.
See your doctor if you have cough and high fever (38℃ or more) that is not improving, trouble breathing, chest pain, or if you have other worries about your symptoms.
