Do you know something about Akuapem people? They live in eastern Ghana (加納) ,where the sunshine hugs all the time. They are very friendly. Now let's have a look at how the Akuapem people receive a visitor.
A visitor is often welcomed warmly in a family of Akuapem. After the visitor is welcomed into the house,he is offered a seat and water at the very beginning, for the host (主人) thinks that the visitor must have come from a very long trip and is in need of water. Then the host family greet the visitor by saying “Akwaaba”. More interestingly,if there is a group of visitors, the host will greet the visitors from right to left. And the host shakes only with his right hand, because the left hand is regarded dirty according to the Akuapem people.
Next, the visitor is asked how his trip was and why he has come. While the conversation is going on,the wife and children, especially girls, are cooking food for the visitor. The visitor can choose the food. After the visitor has finished eating, the host and the visitor continue their conversation. Usually this is a short one since the visitor is getting ready to say goodbye.
When the visitor is leaving,he is often given some food to take along. He is also accompanied (陪伴) by one of the children to the nearest station. The child who accompanies the visitor will not come back home until the visitor leaves safely.
No matter if he is a close friend or just a passer-by (過(guò)路人) ,this is always the way that the friendly Akuapem people receive a visitor.

Mayme Clayton collected books, magazines, and letters written by African Americans. Her son,Avery Clayton, thought her collection was important. Unlike most books, these were rare and hard to find. They were written by writers who helped shape African American culture.
One book in the collection was written by Phillis Wheatley. Wheatley was a slave who wrote poetry. She was the Hrst African American to publish (出版) a book. Wheatley herself signed (簽名) the book in Clayton's collection. No one else owns a copy signed by Phillis Wheatley.
By the time she passed away at age 83 ,Mrs Clayton had more than 30 ,000 books by or about black people. Her collection also includes papers about slaves, photographs, movies, sheet music, and personal letters by black leaders and artists. It is one of the biggest personal collections of African American history and culture in theUnited States.
Avery Clayton's dream was to create a museum for his mother's treasures. Scholars say that Mrs Clayton's collection is very important. Without her work, part of African American heritage (遺產(chǎn)) would have been lost. “We didn't know these things existed,” says Sara Hodson of California's Huntington Library.
The collection's new home is likely to be in Culver City,California. Part of Avery Clayton's dream is to share the cultural riches his mother collected with others. He especially wants kids to have a chance to see the collection. “At present African American culture is being explained by pop culture ,” he says. “It's important to offer a more complete picture. ”
