Selfishness can sink your friend “ship”

I’m sure that you have seen the cartoons on the Internet. Two penguins sit on either side of a small boat. They are friends, but each does something selfish which c1 their friend “ship” to sink.

The cartoons have become very popular and have been viewed millions of times. And their popularity shows how much people value friendship and sometimes worry that they may lose their friends. An old saying goes that a close friend is w 2 a thousand distant relatives. It is p3 right. Even more than your family, a friend is someone you can share your happy and sad moments with. A friend is someone to talk about d4feelings. And with a good friend you will never be a5 .

However, maintaining friendships isn’t always easy. Sometimes we may take our friends for granted and, like the two penguins, act selfishly. The key to k6your friend “ship” from sinking comes down to three simple things: sharing, caring and communicating. Good friends like to share everything with each other. They share their snacks, they share their knowledge about schoolwork—sometimes they even share their clothes! And good friends also care about each other. They do whatever they can to make their friends happy. But the most important part of friendship is communicating.

Communicating means talking to your friends and always being honest with them. It also means that you keep in touch with your friends even though they may be in different schools or live far away. A lack of communication is the surest way to send your friend “ship” to the bottom of the sea.

Friendship makes life happier and more meaningful, but remember, “the only way to have a friend is to be o7.”

由語境和首字母提示可知,填cause;句子which c_____1_____ their friend “ship” to sink. They are friends, but each does something selfish which c_____1_____ their friend “ship” to sink.

Even more than your family, a friend is someone you can share your happy and sad moments with.

由語境和首字母提示可知,填keep;由The key to可知,to不是不定式標(biāo)志,而是個介詞。

Agatha Christie was one of the greatest British crime writers. She introduced the public to her literary character, the famous Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot in her crime novel in 1920. In total she wrote 66 detective novels and 14 short story collections, a billion copies of which have been sold in English. Her books have been translated into many different languages ,including Chinese.

Each story she wrote involved a mystery that had to be solved, but perhaps the greatest mystery is where she went for those 11 days. At the time of the disappearance in 1926, she was 36 years old and married to Archibald Christie. Her mother had died in the beginning of that year and her husband had left her alone to deal with her mother’s death. So she was very lonely and it seemed as if she might not be coping well emotionally.

In the middle of that year, her latest book was published and the book reviews loved it! Unluckily, soon after her book was published, her husband told her he was having an affair with a young woman and was going away for the weekend to be with her. On Friday, the 3rd of December 1926, Agatha Christie kissed her daughter who was asleep upstairs and drove away from the house. Her car was later found abandoned(被遺棄的) on an empty road near a lake and so people began the search for the talented writer. It was 11days later before someone recognized Agatha at a spa hotel in Harrogate. She had been living there using another name all that time. On her return, she never said much about what had happened.

Over the years, many people guessed why she disappeared. Some people said that she was upset with her husband and lost her memory as he was having an affair. A few people even thought that it was a publicity(宣傳) trick to make sure that her newly-published book would sell well.

To this day no one knows for sure what happened and why. While books and even a movie have been made about the mysterious 11 days, it would seem that even the great detective Hercule Poirot would not be able to solve this mystery!

Have you ever counted the number of digits (數(shù)字) in your mobile phone number? Your number has 11 digits. You may sometimes find it hard to remember your number. That’s because China has the longest mobile phone numbers in the world. Why is that?

The 11 digits can be divided into three parts. Each pare has a different meaning. The first three numbers tell you which mobile phone service provider you are using. For example,135 is for the China Mobile Communications Corporation ( ) and 188 is for China Unicom ( 聯(lián) ). The fourth to the seventh digits tell you which region the number is registered (注冊) in. And the last four digits are random (隨機(jī)的).

The main reason for using 11 digits is that we have the largest population in the world. We once had 10 numbers. But as our population grew, there were not enough numbers for us to use. So we began to use 11 digits starting from 1999.

Eleven digits can be used to make tens of billions of mobile phone numbers, according to the Xinhua News Agency. That’s enough for each person to have seven or eight phone numbers to use in China.

Plus, mobile phone numbers can be recycled. Usually, the service provider will reuse a canceled number after three to six months. If you call a number that you haven’t contacted for a long time, you may find that its owner has changed.

Besides China, Britain and Japan also use 11-digit mobile phone numbers. But their numbers always start with 0. So they cannot create as many numbers as we can. Countries like the United States, Australia and India use phone numbers with 10 digits. Canada’s mobile phone numbers are perhaps the world’s shortest: they use seven digits.

1Which country has the longest mobile phone numbers in the world?

____________________________does.

2What can we know from the first three digits of a phone number?

The first three digits stand for_____________________.

3Why does China use 11 digits for phone numbers?

4When can a phone number be recycled?

5Do Canadians have the world’s shortest mobile phone numbers?
