When you are reading something in English, you may often meet up with some new words．How do you know these new words?
The best way to know them is to look them up(查尋)in the English-Chinese dictionary．It will show you a lot about the new word：(1)the pronunciation(發(fā)音)(2)the Chinese meaning(3)how to use the word．But how can you know where the word is in thousands of English words? How to find it quickly and correctly in the dictionary?
First, you should know people arrange(安排)the English words in the letter order．In the dictionary you can first see the words with letter A, then B, C, D, E…That means, if there are two words “drilly” and “stereo”, “drilly” will be sure before “stereo”．Then if there are two words both beginning with the same letter, you may look at the second letter．Then the third, the fourth… For example, “germinant” is before “grunt”, “pidgin” is before “pitch”, etc．
