An old friend of mine telephoned from the train station to tell me that he had come from Canada and was going to stay with me. I was still at the office at the time. So after telling him where my new house was. I told him that I had left my key under the doormat(門墊). As I would be home very late, I told him to help himself to food and drink.

Two hours later my friend telephoned me. At the moment(此刻), he said he was watching TV after he had a wonderful meal. He had cooked two eggs and had helped himself to some cold chicken from the fridge. Now, he said he was drinking a glass of tea and hoped I would join him soon. When I asked him if(是否) he had reached the house without trouble. He answered that he had not been able to find the key under the doormat. but the living room window just by the apple tree had been left open and he had climbed in. I listened to all these with great surprise. There is no apple tree in front of my room, but there is one in front of the room next to ours.
