Professor Hiroshi Kobayashi of Tokyo University of Science, who built Saya, said she didn’t mean to take the place of human teachers with Saya, but to show the joys of technology. “We didn’t want to do all the work of a teacher, but to build this robot to teach children about technology. “In some villages and small schools, there are children who know little about new technology and also there are some teachers that can’t teach these lessons,” Kobayashi said. “So we hope the robot can make the children become interested in new technology.”
Many of the children were very interested in Saya, and did not take their eyes off her when they were listening to the report. When class was over, some students touched her face and felt her.
Japan, home to almost 400,000 industrial robots of the world, hopes that they can make more and more robots in the future. And they hope to make some robots to look after the older people.
