Emma has a lot on her plate. Not only is she a student at Santa Margarita Catholic High School, but also founder of her own organization. Beary Merry Christmas. She volunteers to serve poor kids and families in Orange Town in California. US.

To honor her best friend who died of cancer nearly 10 years ago. Emma decided to serve those in Orange Town who are less lucky than she is.

She began with the simple idea of collecting donated Build-A-Bears. the popular stuffed (填充的) animal that is made by children themselves in the stores* workshops. Emma then took the donated bears to a hotel in California and gave them as gi發(fā)ts to the homeless children there during the holiday season.

With donations now at more than 100 bears a year, Emma and volunteers host Beary Merry Christmas events every year. Volunteers at events not only give out the bears, but also clothing, meals, and other supplies.

"I love making relationships with the people I serve,' Emma said. “The thanks they have, hearing their stories and seeing how happy they are. it's so cool.”

Not wanting to limit the giving to just the holiday months, Emma now hosts other events for Valentine's Day. Mother's Day and Halloween, providing the chance for her volunteer team to make a difference throughout the year.

Future plans for Emma include establishing a public food pantry (儲藏室)and providing a self-awareness (自我意識) class for students on her campus who will soon attend college.

Heading to college herself in the fall. Emma is looking to stay local and continue to help out in her town. In fact, she was recently recognized by the Disneyland Resort as a "Dreamer & Doer” for her efforts in improving her community, along with 32 other Orange Town high school students.

The smiles on the faces of those she serves remain both her motivation and her reward. "These charity efforts are such a big part of my life," Emma said. “All of it has taught me to be more compassionate (有同情心的)and to look out for the needs of others before my own.”

【題目】Answer the questions (根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答下列問題)

Going camping is the best fun in the world if we know how to do it. Every healthy boy and girl, if possible, should enjoy living outdoors for a week or two like an Indian every year.

A part of four boys makes a good number for a camping trip. They will probably agree better than two or three. They can do much of the camp work in pairs. No one need to be left alone to look after the camp while others go fishing or hunting or to some nearby town for food and drinks.

It is always better to take along someone who has “camped out” before. If he cannot be found, then make your plans, decide what you will do and how you will do it, take a few cooking lessons from your mother or someone else.

First choose a leader, not because he is any more important than the rest but because if someone goes ahead and gives directions, the life in camp will run much more easily and everyone will have a better time.

If it is your first experience in camping, you had better go somewhere near home. The best place is one that can be reached by car. If we have to carry our suppliers on our backs or in a canoe, the amount we can take will be much less.

After you have had some experience near home you can safely try the other way. Where you go is of little importance. Near every large city there is some lake or river where you can find a good camping site. Campers always have more fun if they are near some water, but if such a place is not easily found where you live, go into the forest. Try to get away from towns or villages. The wider place is, the better.

1Is it a good idea for children to go camping for a week or two every year?

__________________________________________________________________________.

2How many boys makes a good number for a camping trip?

__________________________________________________________________________.

3Who can you learn from before you go camping?

__________________________________________________________________________.

4What does a leader usually do for the life in camp?

5Where should you go if it is your first time to go camping?

__________________________________________________________________________.

6Where will you go camping, near a river or in the forest? Give your reasons(at least two).

__________________________________________________________________________.
