閱讀下列材料,回答問題。

If you lose 12 times in a row (連續(xù)地), will you just give up? Dale Carnegie, a pioneer in public speaking and self-development, kept trying. And he became famous by showing people how to be successful.

Carnegie was born into a poor family in the United States. The boy didn’t see a train until he was 12 years old. In his teens, he had to get up at 3 am every day to milk the cows for his family.

When Carnegie first entered college, he felt upset because of his ragged (破舊的) clothes and ordinary(平凡的) looks. His mother encouraged him, “Why not try to be better in other things instead of just dress and good looks?”

Carnegie tried to be more active in college. He joined the debate (辯論) team. But one after another, he lost 12 competitions. The young man was very disappointed with himself. He said later that he thought of killing himself after failing so many times. But soon Carnegie was seen practicing public speaking on the riverside. His hard work paid off at last. In 1906, Carnegie won a famous speech contest and became well-known. “Believe that you will succeed, and you will,” he said.

In order to share his success, Carnegie opened schools and wrote books. His best-sellers(暢銷書) include How to Win Friends and Influence People and How to Stop Worrying and Start Living. More than 50 million copies of his books have been translated in 38 languages. They are still helping people on the road to success.

2.Why did Carnegie feel upset when he first entered college?

3.What did Carnegie do to be more active in college?

4.What did Carnegie do after failing so many times?

任務(wù)型閱讀

閱讀下列短文,根據(jù)短文中的信息完成文后表格。在答題卡標有題號的橫線上,寫出空缺處所填單詞的正確形式。(每空一詞)

Don’t complain in the NBA

The NBA has a new rule(規(guī)則) this season. It’s called “zero tolerance(容忍)”. NBA referees(裁判) are not letting players complain too long or too loudly about a referee’s call(裁決). A player who does can be given a foul (犯規(guī)). Two fouls, and the player is out of the game.

The players don’t like the new rule and want the NBA to change it. During an exciting, close game, each side may win. They think it’s only natural to get angry if a call goes against you.

But I like the “zero tolerance” rule and wish other sports would follow the NBA’s example. Won’t it be more enjoyable if football, soccer and tennis players stop arguing the calls and just played the game?

Why do I like the new rule? The biggest reason is that it sets a good example to younger players. When kids see stars shouting at the referees and arguing every call, they think it’s part of the game. But shouting at referees and arguing calls should never be part of any kid’s games. Kids should be taught to forget about the referees’ calls and try to improve their skills and play their best.

All players need to learn that you control only one thing in a game, and that’s your own performance. You can’t control what the other players or trainers(教練員) do. And you certainly can’t control the calls the referees make.

Finally, no one from NBA to 8-year-old children should forget that being a basketball referee is a hard job. The referee has to make lots of sudden calls. They cannot be slow or wait. Chances will never come back. Not even the best referee gets every call right.

Maybe if the players, trainers and fans who shout at the referees have to wear a whistle(哨子) and call a few games, they won’t complain loudly about the “zero tolerance” rule.

The new rule

The players are not 1. _________to complain twice about a referee’s call, 2._________ they may be3._________ of the court.
