It happens to all of us. It is the end of the term and your teacher gives you your report card. You look at it and your heart stops because you realize that your parents are going to be very angry. This is the classic case of a bad report card! There is nothing you can do to change the past. So, what can you do now?

Grades are how most schools evaluate(評價)students and they are pretty important. The problem is that we do not always get good grades we (or our parents) want. After a bad report card, it is important to figure out what to do next.

The first thing to do is to talk to your teacher. Find out how your grades are calculated(計算). Is the problem a bad test, lack of participation(參與)in class, or a failure to complete homework? Next, if the problem is something you can solve on your own (such as not doing your homework), make a promise to change your behavior! Thirdly, if you have been studying hard and still get a bad grade, you probably need some extra help with your classes. Talk to your teacher and explain your situation. He or she will tell you where you can receive the extra help you need. Lastly, make a detailed plan of how you will improve your grades. Write down the plan and have it ready when you talk to your parents. That’s a good way to make your parents less angry.

While all parents want their children to get good grades, most understand that every report card is not perfect. The important thing is that you show your parents you have a plan to improve your grades for next time. Always remember, many of the world’s most successful people failed many times before they became successful. They learned from their failures, and you should, too!

A teacher decided to have her class play a game. The teacher told each student to bring a plastic bag with a few potatoes in it to school. Each student would “name” their potatoes after people they did not like. Therefore, the number of potatoes would be different depending on how many people each student disliked.

The next day, all the students brought their potatoes to school. Some kids had just one or two potatoes, while the others had as many as five or six. The teacher then told the children that they would have to carry their potatoes with them everywhere they went for one week.

Several days passed by. Some of the students started to complain, as their potatoes began to rot (腐爛) and smell bad. The students who carried more potatoes also complained about how heavy their bags were.

One week later, the game was over. The teacher asked, “How did you feel about carrying around your potatoes for a week?” The students complained once again. The teacher simply smiled and said, “This is what it’s like to carry hatred (仇恨) in your heart. You have to carry it with you wherever you go. If you can’t stand carrying rotten potatoes for one week, can you imagine having hatred in your heart for a whole lifetime?”

It can be quite tiring to carry hatred in your heart for a whole lifetime. Please forgive(原諒) others and move on with your life. That’s our best choice.

Have you ever wished you could change something about your body? If so, you’re not alone.

Many people use apps like MeituXiuxiu to beautify photos before putting them on social media. Some teenagers are even having plastic surgery (整容術(shù)) at an early age. Zeng, a senior 2 student from Chengdu, had a double eyelid surgery (雙眼皮手術(shù)) done this summer. She and many of her classmates believe bigger eyes look more beautiful.

As teenagers’ bodies grow and change, they become afraid of the smallest flaw(缺陷) in their looks. They are very worried about it. This can even influence their health.

According to Huxiu News, over 60 percent of girls refuse to take part in some daily activities such as going to school, because they feel bad about their looks. As much as 31 percent of teenagers do not want to speak up in class because they worry that others will notice their looks.

One of the main causes is advertising, TV shows and social media. Pictures of “perfect” faces and bodies are everywhere. They suggest that having large eyes, pale skin and skinny bodies is the only way to be beautiful. Magazines give tips about how to lose weight “in days”. Advertisements suggest that you should whiten your skin using certain products. And TV shows often make fun of overweight characters. Seeing all these things can make people believe that they should change their bodies.

So what should we do? According to Nancy Etcoff of the Harvard Medical School, “We need to help young people in many ways. These ways can include educating students about body confidence in school, as well as encouraging parents to talk to their kids about this topic. After all, beauty comes in all shapes and sizes,” Etcoff said.

Painting and writing on walls is nothing new. In prehistoric(史前的)times, people in Africa and Europe painted pictures of animals and people in caves. Graffiti has been found at ancient sites in Greece, Italy, Syria and Iraq. In the Roman town of Pompeii in Italy, archaeologists found a lot of graffiti written in Latin, including political and romantic messages, and even some magic spells!

In the 1970s, young people in New York used pens to write their names, or "tags", on walls around the city. One of the first "taggers" was Demetrius, a teenager from a Greek family. Other teenagers saw Demetrius's tag and started writing..their own tags on walls, buses and subway trains all over New York. Then, some teenagers stopped using pens and started using paints. Their tags were bigger and more colourful and appeared on trains, buses and walls around the world. In the 1990s and 2000s, a lot of graffiti artists started to make pictured too.

Nowadays, street art is more popular with the public. In some cities, there are street art festivals. In Bristol in the UK, there is a street art festival in August every year. Artists paint all the buildings in a street. Lots of people come to watch the artists and take photos. Street art can be seen in galleries(美術(shù)館)too. There have been exhibitions of street art in galleries in Paris, London and Los Angeles.
