When I was eleven years old, God gave me a gift of happiness and I had a carefree childhood in France.

One day, on my way home from school, a truck ran over me and my legs were cut off. As I lay there bleeding, I suddenly realized that I might have to live the rest of my life without legs. How depressed I was at that moment! But then I realized that depression won’t get my legs back. So I decided not to waste my life feeling depressed. When my parents arrived at the hospital, they stood there quietly, looked so shocked and sad. I told them, “I’ve already accepted the fact. Now you also have to get used to this.”

Ever since then, I often see my friends getting worried about little things: The buses comes late; they get bad grades on the tests and so on. But I just enjoy life.

I was lucky to realize that it is a waste of energy to pay attention to what you have lost, and that the key to happiness is to take pleasure in what you have. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? So why are many people unhappy?

People often think happiness is based on what they achieve. “My whole life would improve if I had a new car.” But when they get the car and what happens? For a whole week they are walking on air. Then they go right back to be unhappy.

Happiness is not a happening; it’s a state of mind. Even though you have the whole world and you’ll still be unsatisfied. And you have relatively(相對地)little but feel full of joy. Happiness comes from mastering the art of enjoying and taking pleasure in what you already have.

C. always compare with others

D. pay so much attention to what they have lost.

A. he will choose to walk on foot for a week.

以下是Mary寫給學(xué)校心理輔導(dǎo)老師Ms Wang 的一封信.請你以Ms Wang的身份給她回一封80詞左右的信,幫助她解決問題.

Dear Ms Wang

My name is Mary. I’m a student in Class 1, Grade 9. I’m writing to you about my problem and I hope you can give me some advice.

The High School Entrance Exam is coming, but I’m very nervous recently. The main reason is that I did seriously bad in the exam in April.

I used to be very happy because I did well in my lessons. However, after the exam, I realize that there are a lot of difficult problems that I can’t solve. I want to overcome them in a short time. I can’t eat well. Even worse, I stay up late every day and sleep less and less. As a result of that, I feel sleepy and can’t focus my attention on what my teachers say in class. I feel very low. What can I do to get myself back?

Thank you. I’m looking forward to your reply.

Best wishes.

Yours Mary.

根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,簡要回答下面的問題。

Customs on Eating

Food in China and western countries is different. China has about 5,000 years’ history. They may spend half of their time on food. Chinese people choose food very carefully. They only use fresh materials(新鮮的材料)to make food. For example, they only eat fresh fish. Chinese have a lot of ideas for cooking. They can cook a chicken in over ten ways. That’s why Chinese food is so popular around the world. Western countries, like England or America, don’t have fresh food because they buy their food from supermarkets which only sell stored materials (儲存的材料). Western people also prefer fast food like hamburgers and chips. They are unhealthy for man’s body. Western people do not have many skills for cooking, mostly they only boil, steam (蒸) and bake the food. By the way, western people are very good at making desserts and chocolate. They can make very good cakes and chocolate. These food are very sweet and they can make you become fat quickly.

In China, the person who invites other people for meal would pay for the meal, but it’s not the same way in western countries. In western countries, people will think you only invite them but don’t need to pay for them. They can afford it. They won’t be happy if you pay for them. In western countries like America or England, people will always give tips (小費(fèi)) to the waiter after they finish the meal in a restaurant. If you don’t, the waiter will not be happy. In China this only happens in some top restaurants and hotels in large cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Another difference in eating is that: Chinese people use chopsticks and western people use knives and forks.

Chinese people only have three meals during a day. But western people may have more. They usually have afternoon tea when they would have fruit, cakes or biscuits with cheese (奶酪餅干).

At school, besides cheating on a test, a kid might cheat in other ways. They might steal someone else’s idea for a science project, or copy a book report from the Internet and hand it in as if it’s his or her work.

Cheating can happen in a lot of different ways. When people cheat, it’s not fair to other people, like the kids who study for the test or who are the true winners of a game.

Some kids cheat because they’re busy or lazy and they want to get good grades without spending the time studying. Other kids might feel like they can’t pass the test without cheating. Even though there seems to be a “good reason” for cheating, cheating isn’t a good idea.

A kid who thinks cheating is the only way to pass a test need to talk with the teacher or another grown-up. They can find some ways to help solve this problem. Talking about the problem and working it out will make him or her feel better than cheating.

Kids who cheat may feel worried about getting caught. Whether they are caught or not, these kids may feel guilty or embarrassed. Even if they feel fine or don’t get caught, that doesn’t mean it’s OK.

There’s an old saying that cheaters never win and winners never cheat. This may sound difficult to understand, because sometimes it seems like cheaters do win--- at least for the moment. However, sooner or later, they’ll pay the price. It’s just a matter of time only. And kids who don’t cheat are true winners because, when they win, they do it honestly.

1.What does Paragraph3 mainly talk about?

A.Why kids cheat. B.How kids cheat.

C.What cheating is. D.How harmful cheating is.

2.What’s the writer’s advice to kids who want to cheat in a test?

A.To keep it a secret.

B.To try not to be caught.

C.To study hard for the test.

D.To turn to grown-ups for help.

3.What does the underlined word “guilty” in Paragraph5 mean?

A. Lucky. B. Proud. C. Sorry. D. unfair

4.What’s the writer’s attitude towards the old saying mentioned in the last paragraph?

A. He is against it.

B. He agrees with it.

C. He doubts whether it is true.

D. He thinks it is only partly true.

5.The writer wrote the passage to _______

A. introduce the different types of cheating.

B. show how popular cheating is at school.

C. tell several cheaters’ stories.

D. tell kids not to cheat.
