【題目】Many shops in China________to shut down as a new law against ivory trade came into effect on January 1st, 2018.

A.orderedB.were orderedC.weren’t ordered

根據(jù)句中“a new law against ivory trade came into effect”可知,禁止象牙貿(mào)易的新法律生效,所以此處是“商店被勒令關(guān)閉”,shopsshut down之間是邏輯上的被動關(guān)系,被動語態(tài)結(jié)構(gòu)為be+動詞過去分詞,根據(jù)句中“January 1st, 2018”可知,此處時態(tài)為過去時,shops是可數(shù)名詞復(fù)數(shù)形式,be動詞用were,所以此處使用were ordered。故選B。

【題目】 Some people may be good at talking. They always have successful conversations with others. But some don't because they are shy. In fact, everyone is a little shy. This article may help you overcome your shyness.

Put yourself out there. This seems clear—the best way to meet people is to actively look for places out where you can meet people! Go to the dance party at your school or the Christmas get-together. Try to meet at least one person by the end of the night.

Practice talking. Even though this may sound strange. Stand in front of a mirror or close your eyes, and then imagine yourself talking to someone. This way is very helpful.

Show your talents. Making new friends is a great way to overcome shyness. Ask your friends to introduce you to their friends. Although that may sound useless, it really isn't. For example, if you like art, you can consider painting something for a party. It will be easier to make you feel comfortable. On the other hand don't be afraid to discover some new interests.

Change your shy look. Take a moment to look at yourself. Are you the kind of person who wears dark clothes? This makes you very unapproachable. You should wear brighter clothes. Go from wearing black, brown, and blue to wearing green, yellow and orange. Remember, you don't always have to change your look. You can just simply make your expression friendlier. 【題目】 Thomas Edison was a great American inventor. When he was 7 years old, his mother had an appendectomy(闌尾手術(shù)). But it was too dark. So Edison put mirrors near oil lamps to light up the room.

The story is in a Chinese textbook for primary school students by People’s Education Press. But the publisher recently said it will remove(去除) the story. That’s because many people think it’s not true. Many believe that the world’s first appendectomy was in 1886. But when Edison’s mother had the so-called appendectomy, it was 1854.

The publisher also said it will avoid using some other fake(假的) stories. For example, there’s a story about the first US President George Washington. The story says young Washington cut down a cherry tree in the yard of his house. But in fact, there was no cherry tree in the area at that time.

So what’s the problem? Experts say that some editors care too much about the educational meaning of a story and fail to check first if the story is true.

The publisher says, in the future, they will pay greater attention to the truth of the stories in the textbook. “We will invite experts to check our stories,” it said in a statement.

1The information about Tomas Edison is true EXCEPT ________.

A.He was from America.B.He was great.

C.He was a president.D.He was an inventor.

2Tomas Edison born in ________.

A.1861B.1847C.1886D.1854

3Why will publisher remove these two stories?

A.Because they are not interesting.

B.Because they happened a long time ago.

C.Because they are true.

D.Because they are not true.

4Which of the following is NOT TRUE according to the passage?

A.People didn’t have appendectomy until 1886.

B.Thomas Edison was very smart when he was 7.

C.Young Washington couldn’t cut down a cherry tree in his yard.

D.Thomas Edison didn’t put up mirrors near oil lamps to light up the room.

5What is the main idea of the story?

A.Expert will be invited to check the stories before they are put into use.

B.Some editors care about the educational meaning as well as the truth of the stories.

C.Even educational stories will be cut off Chinese textbooks if they fail to be true.

D.Students should learn from the great men’s stories because they have educational meaning.

【題目】Dear Madam,

Welcome back to school. My child is so happy to be in your class this year. We know you care so much about your students. I want to tell you a little bit about my child. Although he really loves to learn, he is somewhat anxious about being back in school again.

My child is thought to be gifted and that has brought some unexpected challenges to him and our family. To many people, being gifted means he will do very well in school, but that hasn’t always been true for him. He is just a kid thinking differently, and he sometimes struggles in school. Last year, school wasn’t easy for him for a few reasons.

He may be ahead a few grade levels in some subjects, but not in all subjects. He just doesn’t do better in all areas all the time. And although he may seem older than his years, he doesn’t always behave like you would think he should. I’m sure you know how gifted children can be emotionally immature –that is exactly my kid.

Also, he can be really intense in class when you are teaching one of his favorite topics. He may raise his hand often and constantly talk about what he thinks about it. I’ll apologize in advance because he will also likely challenge you on information or facts which he feels are not quite right especially when it’s a topic he is hooked on. He is not being impolite and he isn’t just being a know-it-all, or a show-off, he is really just very excited to be learning about a subject he feels strong about. He just gets carried away!

Last year, he was teased about looking like a know-it-all in school by some of his classmates, which hurts him A LOT. Being laughed at is part of his fear of going back to school. He fears being called a show-off at school and he feels like he doesn’t fit in. His teacher said he often kept to himself and chose to work alone. I know as a teacher, you are incredibly busy, but could you keep an eye out for anyone teasing him or if he seems to be keeping to himself too much?

Lastly, his therapist(理療師) mentioned that because of the being laughed at and maybe because he was bored last

year in school, he is showing signs of becoming an underachiever. Please let me know if his grades start slipping.

Thank you for taking the time to read and understand about my child. Don’t hesitate to call or email me if there are any problems with him at school. Believe me, we know very well how sensitive, emotional and intense he can be.

I hope you have a wonderful school year!

Sincerely,

Mom of a Gifted Child

Della put on her old brown jacket and her old brown hat. Then she went out of the door and down the stairs to the street.

She stopped at a store. The sign in front of the store read “Hair Goods”. “Will you buy my hair?” asked Della. “Twenty dollars.” the woman said.

Then Della searched through the stores looking for a present for Jim.

She found it at last. It was a watch chain. The bill was twenty-one dollars. At seven o’clock, the coffee was made and dinner was ready. Jim was never late. Della heard his steps on the stairs.

The door opened and Jim walked in. He stopped inside the door. His eyes were fixed on Della, and there was an expression in them that she could not read.

“Jim,” she cried, “don’t look at me that way. I sold my hair to buy you a Christmas present.”Jim drew a box from his pocket and put it on the table.

Della opened it. There lay the set of combs(梳子) that she had always wanted. Now they were hers, but her hair was gone.

She smiled and held out Jim’s present. “I hunted all over town to find it. Give me your watch. I want to see how it looks on it.”
