Stone is all around us. Stone is usually very hard,      it can also be soft. Stones have many uses.
In some     , artists carve (雕刻) beautiful things out of soft stones, because they can be shaped easily. In ancient times, people carved      persons or animals out of soft stones, which could be carried along with. While in some European countries, statues (雕塑) are carved        hard stones and they do not change easily. In summer, the hot sun     on these statues and in winter the snow falls on them, but they      remain beautiful.
Stone is strong and long-lasting. So, it is     enough for buildings. A house built of stone does not catch fire as easily as     made of wood. Some stones are coloured, so they make the       look wonderful. People can also get a fire with stones. Besides, some kinds of stones can be used to      jewellery (珠寶). We’ve found stones are really amazing.

Long ago, there lived a clever man in China. He was famous for his wide knowledge. And lots of people from all over the country came to learn things from him. The great man taught his students with all his heart and answered their questions with great patience(耐心).
One day a student asked him, “My dear teacher, didn’t you say you have more questions than we do? But we think we students have a lot more than you.” With a smile, the teacher drew two circles—one is as large as a big plate, and the other smaller.
“Of course, I’ve learned much more. But I don’t think I know all you know. Now, look at these two circles:Inside the big one is my knowledge of things, and inside the smaller one is yours. Out of the circles is what we don’t know. My circle is larger, so its line is longer. That means I have more chances to meet with what I don’t know. And that’s why I have more questions than you.
