During the daytime, many people are busy using their cell phones. They only have time to charge (充電) them at night when they are asleep. But scientists have warned that having a glowing smartphone in your bedroom at night could not only affect your sleep,it could also make you fat.

When darkness falls, our bodies begin to produce a hormone (荷爾蒙) called melatonin (視黑激素) . K helps our metabolism (新陳代謝) so that our bodies can change food and drink into energy. When the sun rises, melatonin reduces. This light-dark cycle is good for our health.

But if you charge your phones when you are asleep, the phone releases blue light. Although it is not bright enough to light up a room,it can affect your sleep. Therefore,it slows down your metabolism and influences your body to digest (消化) food. This may make you fat.

"Blue light is bad for health because it keeps the mind buzzing," Simon Kyle,a sleep scientist at Manchester University, told the Daily Mail. And there is strong scientific data to show the connection between sleep interference (干擾) and people's health.

Earlier this year, leading scientists from universities including Oxford,Cambridge and Harvard, warned that a lack of sleep could cause serious problems, such as cancer, heart disease and obesity.

Kyle suggested turning off smartphones and desktop computers a few hours before going to bed. This helps to reduce people's exposure (暴露) to artificial (人工的) light.

Wearing a light blue wetsuit (潛水衣) that matches the colour of the sea will make you less likely to be attacked by a shark, according to researchers. Sharks eat meat like dolphins, seals and whales, but they are unable to distinguish between colours. They are completely colour blind and only see things clearly if their colours are mostly light or dark, scientists claimed. It is hugely beneficial to divers sailing in shark-filled waters. Costumes or wetsuits that disguise (掩蔽) swimmers’ bodies in the sea water are less likely to draw a shark's attention than ones with bright colours.

Professor Nathan Hart, from the University of Western Australia, said,n It's the high contrast against the water that is probably attractive to sharks. So you’d better wear less bright colours or colours that match the background in the water."

The U. S. Navy has made tests that suggested sharks were able to see yellow most clearly. The tests were to see what would be the best colour for the life jackets (救生衣) that pilots wear in case they have to splash down into the ocean. Professor Hart said it was the high degree of yellow, but not the colour itself that would increase the visibility (能見(jiàn)度) of sharks. He said, " It may be possible to design swimming suits and surf crafts that have a lower visual contrast (視覺(jué)對(duì)比) to sharks. Therefore they are less attractive to them."

53. What did scientists find about sharps?

   A. They can't see anything.

   B. They can see all the colours.

   C. They can't distinguish between colours.

   D. They can see blue and yellow most clearly.

54. According to the passage, which of the following is the best to wear in the sea?

   A. A bright blue wetsuit. B. A light wetsuit.

   C. A yellow wetsuit. D. A less bright wetsuit.

55. According to the passage, what is the main reason that would increase the visibility of sharks?

   A. A high visual contrast.

   B. A low visual contrast.

   C. The colour itself.

   D. The colour of the sea water.
