With opening night only a week ago, I was still learning my lines (臺詞). I was having _______ dealing with my part-time job at the bank and my acting at night at the same time. As I walked, I thought seriously about _______ up both acting and San Francisco. City life had become too much for me.
As I walked down _______streets under tall buildings, I felt very small and cold. I began running, both to keep warm and to keep away from any possible robbers. Very few people were still out except a few sad-looking homeless people under blankets.
About a block from my flat, I heard a sound behind me. I _______quickly, half expecting to see someone with a knife or a gun. The street was empty. All I saw was a shining streetlight. Still, the noise had made me _______, so I started to run faster. Not until I reached my flat building and unlocked the door did I realize what the noise had been. It had been my _______ falling to the sidewalk. Suddenly I wasn't cold or tired any more. I ran out of the door and back to _______I'd heard the noise. Although I_______the sidewalk anxiously(憂慮的) for fifteen minutes, my wallet was_______ to be found.
Just as I was about to give up the search, I heard the garbage truck (垃圾車) pull up to the sidewalk next to me. When a voice called from the ________ , “ Alisa Camacho?” I thought I was dreaming. How could this man know my ________ ? The door opened, and out jumped a small red-haired man with an amused look in his eye. “Is this what you're looking for?” he asked, ________ up a small square shape.
It was nearly 3 a.m. by the time I got into bed. I wouldn't get much ________ that night, but I had got my wallet back. I also had got back some ________ of city life. I realized that the city couldn't be a bad place as long as people were ________ to help each other.

Everyone speaks a language, but language is not just for talking. It is our most important communication tool. Through language, we can tell other people what we think, how we feel, and what we need. In fact, civilization (文明) itself depends on our ability to communicate.
In the long history of human, languages survive, grow, disappear, move from place to place, and change with time. Now, some languages are ancient, and others are new. There are about 6,000 different living languages around the world today, and there are many thousands more that are no longer in use. Languages might sound different, but they are thought to have come from a single ancient language. It would be quite interesting if we search for stories about the creation and disappearance of languages.
Nobody knows exactly when people first started using language. Some scientists say that people first spoke to one another about two million years ago.
Today, our sophisticated (復雜的) languages get fully used in the magazines, novels, science books, and movies that fill our libraries and bookstores. As human, it is important that we can tell the long stories, which separate us from the great apes (類人猿). Other animals may use various methods to communicate, but we humans send complicated messages through space and time.
Throughout history there were many languages that served as a lingua franca (通用語)— a common language that could serve as a bridge between people of different cultures. Today, English is the main language that plays that role around the world. Many people have some ability to use English. Most of these people have studied English as a second or third language.
Language helps people to work together, to share knowledge, feelings, and build up modern societies. The development of humanity’s many languages was an important process that helped humans move forward toward civilization.

These days shared bikes are becoming the center of attention in my We Chat friend circle. Many of my friends are sharing photos of themselves riding bikes, especially during the weekend in natural parks, and I can see people logging in (登錄) and out of shared bike apps.
I’m very happy that there are shared bikes on the road. They have saved us a lot of time during special situations, and on beautiful, clear days, people enjoy riding them outside the city.
I tried shared bikes last week, and I didn’t like them very much. I think the first shared bikes without baskets are designed for athletes. They are very hard to ride, and the seats are not comfortable. It makes me wonder whether people really like riding shared bikes or are just saying this to agree with others.
A friend secretly told me she tried the bikes to fit in. She doesn’t like bikes and finds Beijing’s roads too hard for bike riding. But recently, the only way to hang out with her friends is riding out of town together. To join in social activities, she had to pick up bike riding again.
Another friend admitted that he started talking about and sharing photos on shared bikes to appear modern and fashionable to friends. He started paying attention when shared bikes first came into use.
These views will give me something new to think about when I ride these bikes again.

Do you use a calendar to help you organize your life? By listing what you need to do on any special day, you can make sure to keep all for your appointments and not worry whether you've forgotten something. Calendars are also useful for reminding(提醒) people what day a certain holiday is on and what days you might have off from work. Besides, they are used for planning fun things like vacations and outings.
A calendar is usually divided into twelve parts, and each one stands for a month with all the days laid out in a grid-like (網(wǎng)格狀的) form. A block of space usually is for a day, and there is enough space for you to write down what you need to do on that certain day. You probably use all different kinds of calendars. A calendar on your cell phone screen is easy to use, and so is a large paper calendar that hangs on your wall.
