由題干可知本句考查固定搭配different from/to/than“不同于”,故答案填from/to/than。

4句意:大約2000之前,有很多書頁的書被發(fā)明了。分析題干可知書和發(fā)明之間是被動(dòng)關(guān)系,時(shí)態(tài)為一般過去時(shí),books為復(fù)數(shù),所以系動(dòng)詞bewere,故答案填were invented。

5句意:書頁由獸皮制作的那種現(xiàn)象在13世紀(jì)發(fā)生了變化。根據(jù)句意“在十三世紀(jì)”,in the xxth century表示“在第幾世紀(jì)”,序數(shù)詞前面要用定冠詞the,故答案填the。

6句意:當(dāng)歐洲人了解到中國一個(gè)非常有用的發(fā)明“紙”的時(shí)候?崭窈竺娴invention為名詞,意思是“發(fā)明”,要用形容詞來修飾,根據(jù)句意可知此處是“有用的”,英文表達(dá)是useful,故答案填useful。

7句意:更多的人能買得起通過印刷機(jī)生產(chǎn)的書。本題考查定語從句,分析題干可知先行詞是物:the books,所以關(guān)系詞用that或者which,故答案填that/which。

8句意:現(xiàn)在很難想象一個(gè)沒有書的世界。分析題干可知本句考查句型It is difficult to do sth.“做某事是困難的”, It是形式主語,句子真正的主語是后面的動(dòng)詞不定式,故答案填to imagine。

As the saying goes, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”This is the way the charity organization Heifer International (國際小母牛慈善組織)wants to end world hunger.

It began in the 1930s when an American farmer, Dan West, went to Spain to help people in need. He tried to feed the people with milk. But it seemed that there would never be enough milk. It made him think that what they needed was“not a cup, but a cow”.

Dan West returned to America. He worked together with some friends to find ways to end hunger. He believed giving animals and providing training would stop world hunger. With his help, Heifer International was set up.

On Heifer International’s website, you will see a list of animals like cows, chickens, pigs and even fish and bees. You can offer help by buying some animals for one certain family. Those animals will have babies. With more and more animals, these families will be able to support themselves. Once these families get better lives, they will pass on the act of kindness to others. More importantly, you are buying the resources(資源) for programs run by Heifer International to help more families.

The programs also help small-sized farms. As a rule, each farmer must give his animal’s first female(雄性) baby to another in need. Heifer International also provides training on animals health and feeding. And these farmers all agree to teach others what they have learned as another rule.

However, there is still a long way to go. The milk may run out. But if families have their own cows, they can get plenty of milk to feed themselves. The organization wants the farmers to go on

working together, helping each other and learning from each other. Maybe hunger can really be stopped.

【題目】閱讀短文,根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答問題。

Idioms are one of the hardest parts of learning a language. An idiom is a phrase which has a meaning, but the meaning is not clear from the words themselves. They are like puzzles. If you translate an idiom word for word, it sometimes makes no sense at all. That’s why even native speakers can get confused when someone uses a phrase that they’ve never heard of.

Here are four common English idioms every English student should know in a lot of situations.

1.Get your act together (Meaning: you need to improve your behaviour/work)

This might be something your teacher says to you if you score badly in an exam or if you misbehave in class. You can also use it to talk about people in general. For example, if your friend is being mean for no reason, then you can tell them that they need to get their act together.

2.Pull yourself together (Meaning: calm down)

It’s not polite to say “pull yourself together”to tell people to relax while they’re overreacting (反應(yīng)過激). Only use this if you think the person you are speaking to is getting upset over something important. When your friend tells you that their close relative has died, it is NOT the time to tell them to pull themselves together.

3.I’m feeling under the weather (Meaning: I’m sick)

Yes, it’s longer and more difficult to say than “I’m sick”, but if your English teacher asks you why you haven’t done your homework, he or she is more likely to forgive (原諒) you if you say that you were feeling under the weather.

4.Break a leg (Meaning: good luck!)

This is perhaps one of the most confusing yet well-known English idioms. If someone says this to you, do not think they are frightening you; they are just wishing you luck. It is most often used for people wishing success to actors and actresses before they perform on the stage, but it can be said in other situations, too.

All in all, learning a new language can be challenging. It’s certainly not a piece of cake, especially when there are so many confusing idioms. However, with enough hard work and interest, you will succeed in no time. Break a leg!

1What is an idiom?

2How many common English idioms are talked about in the passage?

3Is it polite to say“pull yourself together”to tell people to relax while they’re overreacting?

4Which idiom can you use to wish somebody luck?

5What is the passage mainly about?

Books have huge power. Between their pages, readers can be transported to

anywhere imaginable and become just about anyone…or anything. Unluckily, many

children all over the world don’t have chances to read books!

For several years now, Maria Keller, a teenager from America, has been changing

that fact.

When she was 8 years old, Maria already loved reading. She also noticed that

some of her classmates didn’t read as much as she did. When she asked her mother

and countries like India, China…She says, “I cannot live without books. As I continue

my task, I have learned that the number of kids who have no books are in the hundreds

of millions. So I just can’t give up, even after reaching my goal of 1 million books.”

She recently set a new goal: to give donations (捐贈(zèng)) to kids in need in every state

in the United States, and every country in the world. She always pays attention to her

progress on a large map at the warehouse (倉庫) where they store and sort books.
