Dear Mr Scott,
I expect you may be slightly surprised to receive a letter from your next-door neighbor, but I have to raise a theme that it will be easier for me to discuss in writing. You may have noticed that I have a line of apple trees running along the fence(柵欄)that separates our two gardens. You may also have felt happy when you see your two children sitting on your grass by the fence. And you may also have noticed that my apple trees bend over the fence and seem to look down at your children with interest. It is only natural that your children should sometimes seem to return that interest. And it is quite legal(合法的)for them to show that interest by picking all the apples that hang over on your side of the fence. But to tell you the truth, Mr Scott, I am tired of seeing your children, day after day, destroy the branches of every one of my apple trees. And it seems that a war has been fought on one side of my apple trees. Besides, I am more tired of waking up on these fine autumn mornings to find even the apples on MY side of the fence much less in number. I know this too is the work of your children, since last night I was woken at midnight by the noise they were making when climbing one of my trees, and (as they may have told you) I drove them away.
Yours sincerely,
Becky Aldrin

Earlier this month,Goldman Sachs, the 150-year-old company, said that the time was right "to move to flexible(靈活的)clothing rules"
The move toward flexible workplaces began in the 1990s when companies started introducing "casual(隨意的)Fridays". The idea became widely accepted with the rise of technology companies like Amazon and Facebook and their leaders. Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg is famous for wearing blue jeans and a gray T-shirt. Wall Street companies have had to change as they compete with technology companies for young workers. Goldman Sachs is one of the last big Wall Street companies to change its clothing rules.
Talk of the move to flexible clothing rules is often about what men wear. That's because the banking industry has mostly male leaders. Ariel Schur, head of ABS Staffing Solutions, told the Associated Press she gets more questions from men nowadays about what to wear for job interviews and meetings. However, those kinds of questions have been asked by women for a long time. "Guys have always just been able to wear the same suit, change their ties and shirt,"Schur said.
So,what is acceptable to wear at the office these days?
"This is pretty much what we wear. "said Ed Silhan, who works for an advertising technology company, wearing black jeans and boots as he spoke to an AP reporter in New York's Midtown Manhattan. "Flip flops(人字拖),or trainers are also acceptable." he added.
The "midtown uniform"—slacks(寬松長褲),button—downed shirt and fleece vest(羊毛背心)—has become a refuge for men who work in U. S. offices.
"That's probably a lazy method,"said Bossola of The Need Supply Co. "The worst possibility is that next Monday at Goldman Sachs, workers all wear the same. The best case is that they make an effort to create a set of clothing that works for their industry."
1.The word "refuge" in Paragraph 6 probably means "a _________choice”.
A.wise B.wrong C.safe D.popular
2.The writer mainly wants _________.
A.to describe how Goldman Sachs change its clothing rules
B.to introduce the changes of clothing rules in U. S. companies
C.to discover why many companies make clothing rules less strict
D.to advise male workers to create clothes specially for their industry
3.What can we learn about male workers?
A.Male workers are all leaders in the banking industry
B.Male workers wearing the "midtown uniform" are lazy.
C.Male workers are advised to wear the same suit every day.
D.Male workers have more questions about clothes than before.
4.What can we infer(推斷)from the passage?
A.Goldman Sachs is the oldest Wall Street company.
B.Wearing properly in companies is easier for women.
C.Young workers prefer to work in more casual clothes.
D.The move toward flexible workplaces began in the 1990s.

When I was young, my father used to grow carnations-a kind of flower that was red, pink or white .He took care of them with much love and devotion. Every day he came home from work, he would enjoy watching them, And he used to tell us, “No one should touch my flowers.”
One day, my younger sister Clemence, who loved dad very much, wanted to help him. So she cut the carnation from their stems (枝干) one by one and arranged them on the ground. She believed that dad would be very pleased to see them that way.
