Once my mother told me a story. In Africa, when an antelope (羚羊) wakes up every morning, the first

thing it thinks about is, “I must be able to run faster than the fastest lion, or I will be k ___1___.” At the same time, a lion wakes from his dream. The first thing the lion thinks about is, “I must be able to catch the ___2___antelope, or I will die of hunger .” So almost at the same time, the antelope and the lion get up and start running toward the rising sun.
This is life: full of chances and challenges. Whether you are an antelope or a lion, you must go a___3___when the sun rises. For students, it is just the same. If we don’t study hard, sooner or later, we will fall b____4____the other students. At first, I didn’t know what the word “exam” meant. Later, I knew an exam was a kind of competition. In competitions, there are always w ___5___ and losers. As I grew up, I got to know “competition”. In one’s life, there must be competitions, so people can improve.
Each time I saw children playing games and heard their laughter, I wished I were that age again. However, I remembered my parents’ words: “You must work very hard in order to have a good f ___6___. ” So I picked up my pen and began to study hard again.
I was still not sure what competition really meant. One day, I was taking part in an English-speaking competition. When I went to the stage, I saw other students looking at me kindly. I s ___7___ knew what competition was. It is not as cruel as my teacher and parents told me. In fact, competition is the opposite: it is kind and necessary.
I learned a lot from realizing this . Now I understand better about the world. Competition is important for us all.

The 14-year-old girl Susan Davis is having a party. At this party, there are neither cakes nor candles. There is only a room full of art supplies(供應(yīng)品)and many kids she never met. And all the kids are homeless.

Susan got the idea last year after her school. She worried that kids who could not afford their own supplies would give up drawing. So she started writing letters to big companies to ask for help. Then the girl received lots of donations(贈(zèng)品)from some of the biggest art supply companies. Susan collected more than $3000 in supplies, enough to make a home for kids to paint their own watercolors.

Rob Frenette had problems with bullies(欺辱) at school for eleven years. He was often lonely and scared. When he was fifteen, however, he decided to do something about his problems. He walked into a newspaper office and told them about the bullying. His story went into the newspaper and soon all the TV stations in Canada wanted to talk to him about his experiences. They also wanted to hear his ideas to stop bullying.

After that, Rob continued his studies at school, but in his free time he helped other people with bullying problems. With a friend Katie Neu, he made a website called www. bullyingcanada. ca. Visitors to the website can find advice, stories and poems about bullying, in both English and French. When people are upset, they can talk on the phone or online to Rob and his team. Every weekend Rob has to answer e-mails to the website. He also speaks to children, teachers and members of government around the country about bullying.

Rob’s most important message is: “When bullies are unkind to you, it isn’t your fault (過錯(cuò)、責(zé)任). There’s nothing wrong with you, so you should try to keep trusting yourself. And remember that people care about your problems. You just have to find those people.”

One of Rob’s ideas is “Blue Day”, a special day for stopping bullying in schools. Students have to wear blue clothes and in class they learn how to stop bullying. More than 150 Canadian schools now celebrate Blue Day, but Rob won’t stop until there’s a Blue Day in every school in Canada.
