When I waited in the living room, I saw my dad come up the path with a white envelope in his hand. I had waited all day for this. As soon as he set foot in the house, I reached over him to get it. He threw the envelope on the table and said that it was nothing to get excited about.

I was looking forward to seeing my report for my first year in high school. I opened the report and saw that I came in first in my class. I was feeling so excited. But when I saw my dad’s cold face and heard his cold words, I was really hurt by how he ignored (忽略) my hard work. I didn’t know why but said nothing, and just shut the door with a bang. I got a good mark and I wanted to share my happiness with someone, but I felt alone.

Thinking over what had happened to us, I suddenly realized something. I was so busy studying that I had kept away from my family unconsciously (不知不覺(jué)地). We used to watch movies and play tennis together on weekend afternoons. I wondered when that had stopped. Then I realized they had not stopped but I just no longer joined them.

My family is very important to me, so I do not want to destroy that relationship. I wanted to apologize for my rude behavior, because without their support, my achievements meant nothing. As I went over to him, my dad said, “Youve done well, and your mother and I are proud of you. But we do not want to use your achievements to define (定義) who you are.”

Although my head may be in the clouds with all my ambitions, my family keeps my feet on the ground. Whatever you do, remember family is always important.

Children should be allowed to get angry. I remember many years ago, when I was visiting my sister in Australia, and I told my oldest son that he wasn’t allowed to do something he really wanted to do. He thought about it for a minute and said, “Mom, I’m very angry with you.” I replied, “That’s OK, darling, it’s what you do with your anger.” I then asked him if he wanted to talk to me about it but he was too angry to talk to me. Then he stormed off(憤然離開(kāi)).

My sister looked at me surprisingly. Now she has a son the same age as mine and she said angrily, “How can you allow your child to be angry with you? If my son learns that from you, I will never forgive you.”

Then it was hard for me to stay with her, I ended up leaving earlier. Why shouldn’t my son have the right(權(quán)利) to tell me when I have made him angry? If he can’t tell me then how can he tell others in his life?

Children need to be able to express how they feel. We need to teach them ways to do this in a right way instead of saying nothing. I want them to tell me. Bottling up anger is not healthy for anyone and usually makes things worse.

B. Because she had a meeting later.

C. Because her son was angry with her and left.

D. Because her sister asked her to leave.

4.The underlined words “Bottling up” means __________ in Chinese.

A.瓶子 B.裝滿瓶子

C.強(qiáng)忍著不說(shuō) D.打碎瓶子

5.What’s TRUE according to the passage?

B. Children shouldn’t be able to express how they feel.

C. Bottling up anger is not healthy for anyone.
