Months ago, the Chinese government allowed primary and high school students to have a spring or autumn break.
Now most Chinese students only have holidays in summer and winter. During the holidays, some students stay at home doing their homework. Others travel with their family. How do kids in the US and UK spend their holidays? Let's take a look.

UK

* Easter holiday: late March — mid-April

Jun Korea Posted: 3 days ago | Question: First trip to the USA For my new job, I will travel to the United States next month and meet my American boss. This will be my first trip to the USA. I’m worried about correct business behaviour and manners. My boss invited me to his home for dinner. Do you have any advice? |
Sue Miami Posted: 3 days ago | Re: First trip to the USA It's a good idea to bring a small gift or something from your country. Don’t be surprised if your boss opens the gift right away. In the USA, people often open a gift when they receive it. In Korea, that is not polite, but it’s appropriate in the USA. |
Kathryn New York Posted: 12 hours ago | Re: First trip to the USA In some countries, such as Korea, Japan and China, it’s the custom to remove your shoes before entering a house. In the United States, you usually don’t take your shoes off. Once I was travelling in Japan and entered a house with my shoes on by mistake. Whoops! |
Andrew Washington Posted: 2 hours ago | Re: First trip to the USA I was surprised that American men often cook and that both the husband and wife come to dinner table and talk. You probably won’t speak about business during dinner, so my advice is to know some good topics of conversation. For example, you can talk about travel, food, music, or sports. Of course, it’s good to ask about your boss’s family. But it’s not polite to question about age, salary, religion, or politics. |
1.People usually don’t need to remove shoes before entering a house in _ .
A.Korea B.the USA C.Japan D.China
2.The word “appropriate” in the first reply means in Chinese.
A.俗氣的 B.無(wú)禮的 C.合適的 D.愉快的
3.According to Andrew's reply, it’s polite to talk about some topics during dinner except .
A.travel B.politics C.sports D.food

Why is music an important subject that every child should study?
First of all, music helps us when we are unhappy, and gives us pleasure when we are happy. There are many different types of music: slow and fast, serious and relaxing. We can choose the music to match our feelings. And second, music is fun. People enjoy playing drums (鼓) and using their energy!
Scientists say that music helps children with language learning. Singing simple songs is good for young children. Music improves the ear — and we know that children who have studied music can learn foreign languages more easily and pronounce (發(fā)音) them much better. Students who have learnt to play music are also better at maths. This is not surprising, as music is mathematical, with notes in order. Playing music with other people also teaches children to work together. People who can play musical instruments ( 樂(lè) 器 ) always have something they can do at a party. Older children who play in school orchestras (管弦樂(lè)隊(duì)) enjoy school more and do not drop out of school early.
You need a lot of practice to play an instrument, and it can be difficult to ask your child to spend hours at the piano or playing the guitar. So music practice should be a daily habit — for example, every day after school, but do not make the practice too long.
Parents should listen to their children playing and tell them that they enjoy it. Practice should also be fun. It is also a good idea to finish the practice with a piece of music the child likes, and so learning music will be a pleasant (愉快的) part of the day.
1.Which of the following can't music help children?
A.Learn languages. B.Learn maths.
C.Work together. D.Use energy.
2.How often should children practice playing an instrument according to the article?
A.Every day. B.Once a week.
C.Once a month. D.Twice a week.
3.What should parents do when their children are playing instruments?
A.Do housework. B.Play with them.
C.Give them advice. D.Listen to them playing.
4.Which of the following is TRUE according to this article?
A.Music can give us pleasure only when we are unhappy.
B.It's easy for parents to ask their children to play instruments.
C.It's good to finish music practice with a piece of music the child likes.
D.People who can play instruments always have nothing to do at a party.
5.What's the best title of this passage?
A.How to play an instrument B.Music helps the young
C.Learning music is pleasant D.Practice makes perfect

Nearly every parent says that we never grow up. In fact, we are maybe 16 or 17 years old. In their eyes, we are always little ones and always do wrong things. For example, when I need to stay at home alone, they always worry about me and my life without them.
Most parents always think that they have offered the best things they can to make their children live a comfortable life. They buy their children pretty clothes, cool shoes, expensive school things, and often a thousand-yuan-cost bike. They think that they have done everything that they can for their children. In return, they only want their children to get good results in the examinations.
But why their children still can’t understand them? Does it mean that they still want more material things? No. As a matter of fact, what they want is a true family. What does a true family mean? I think it means a place where we can hide ourselves from the cold world outside. From here, we can get warmth, we can get consolation ( 安 慰 ), and we can get happiness. And one important thing is that we should be stronger and more confident in the outside world because we know that we have a family.
So I think that parents should save their money and sit down to talk with their children to let them know that they have a true family, so the children and their parents could understand each other more and more. Then, no children will be regarded as little ones.
