A water bearer (搬運(yùn)工) in India had two buckets(水桶). One small bucket had a crack (裂縫) and the other large was perfect. One always came home full and the other was not.

This went on. The water bearer carried one and a half buckets full of water to his owner's house. The poor cracked bucket was ashamed of (羞愧) itself. One day it spoke to the bearer by the river.

"I am ashamed of myself, and I want to say sorry. "

"Why?" asked the bearer. "What are you ashamed of?"

"I have been able to hold only half. Because of my crack, you have to do all this work, and you don't get full value for your efforts," said the bucket.

The bearer felt sorry and said, "As we return to the owner's house, I want you to notice the beautiful flowers along the road." As they went up the hill the cracked bucket noticed the beautiful flowers and this made it feel better.

The bearer said, "Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side, but not on the other side? I planted flower seeds(種子) on your side, and every day while we took water to the owner's house from the river, you have watered them. "

We are all "cracked buckets". But we shouldn't be ashamed, because we can be the cause of beauty. We can also find our good points.

Inspiration can be a strange thing. You never know when it might hit. And sometimes, it can come from the most unexpected places.

I recently read about an author(作家) named Okorafor. When she was in college, she had a serious spine disorder(脊椎病). Okorafor was told that a simple operation(手術(shù)) could fix it.

But when she woke up from her operation, she found that she couldn't move her legs and was in great pain.

Okorafor got well later. But before she did, she saw strange things in her hospital room.

She imagined her pain as a beast(野獸)that hunted her from the shadows. But she also imagined a woman-a woman who could fly, in fact. This magical woman inspired her and helped her forget her pain. "I felt greater than myself. I felt myself become greater," she wrote in her book Broken Places & Outer Spaces: Finding Creativity in the Unexpected.

We never know where we might find the inspiration to create. As a musician, most of my inspiration comes from other people's music. But I also find ideas in other places. Books, movies and even just moments in everyday life can lead to new creations.

For example, I recently watched the film Blade Runner. I've seen it plenty of times before; it's one of my favorite movies. But this time, for some reason, I saw it differently. I decided to make music that could create the same feeling as the film. It's not done yet, but the movie's setting and characters impacted the music I'm working on now heavily.

Anything can inspire us. You just have to be ready to catch inspiration when it hits.

根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容選擇最佳答案。

1.What happened to Okorafor after her operation?

C.decided to make his own film

3.The underlined word "impact" in the passage means _____________in Chinese.

A.影響 B.熏陶 C.誘導(dǎo)

4.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A.Before Okorafor got well, she lost her mind and went crazy

B.The book Finding Creativity in the Unexpected was written by a magical woman.

C.The writer's inspiration comes from other people's music, books, movies and moments in everyday life.

5.The writer wrote this story to tell us _______________________.

A.how our imaginations work in real life

B.how he was inspired to create music

C.how inspiration can come from surprising places

In recent years, a growing number of Chinese books and movies have been translated into other languages. Many of the translators are young people who are interested in learning Chinese culture.

Anna Holmwood is one of them. Before she translated in Yong’s novel Legends of the Condor Heroes(《射雕英雄傳》), the writer was little known to English readers. One reason for this is that his works were too difficult to translate.

But Anna managed to do it. Attracted by the book’s themes as well as Chinese philosophy(哲學(xué)), Anna hoped to bring it to Englishmen. After five years of work, the translated book came out in 2018. It was printed seven times in several months in the UK. Many people think Anna did a good job of explaining things that are “untranslatable”.

Learning history at the University of Oxford, Anna began to learn Chinese at 21 after a trip in China. She calls herself “a clumsy(笨拙的) student, just like Guo Jing, but with a truthful heart”.

As more young people learn to translate Chinese texts and films, more Chinese stories will become available to the world.
