Most people know what a giraffe looks like. They’re tall, and famous for their long necks that allow them to reach the leaves at the top of the trees that other animals can’t reach. These valves prevent blood from rushing to the head when the giraffe bend low to drink. The giraffe must spread its long legs apart so that its long neck can reach the water.
