Smartphones are becoming more and more popular nowadays, more and more students like to use them to study.

Space vegetables are grown from seeds (種子) that have been taken to and brought back from outer space. The seeds are affected by radiation (輻射) and low gravity in outer space. When they are brought back to the Earth, these seeds produce vegetables that are bigger, healthier and more nutritious (有營(yíng)養(yǎng)的) than normal vegetables. However, some people worry about eating space vegetables. They think that space vegetables might not be good for us and could give us cancer as a result of their exposure (暴露) to radiation in space. People should not be scared, as space vegetables are actually perfectly healthy.

Here are some facts that you should know about space vegetables:

Space vegetables are grown from seeds that are carefully selected (選擇). When seeds are brought back from space, people test the seeds to make sure that the vegetables they grow will be safe to eat. There are no traces of radiation after testing.

Space vegetables are better for you than normal vegetables. For example, space tomatoes stay fresh for twenty days, which is one week longer than normal tomatoes. Another popular space vegetable is the pepper (辣椒). Space peppers contain 20 percent more Vitamin C than normal peppers.

After genetically modified (基因改進(jìn)的) foods come onto the market, people worry that they are eating unknown things. For example, if nut genes are put inside potatoes, people allergic (對(duì)…過(guò)敏) to nuts might get very sick from eating these potatoes because they do not know they are also eating nuts. Unlike genetically modified foods, space vegetables have not been genetically changed. This means that no new genes are put into the vegetables, so they won't be harmful to your health.

Starting February 1st, each person in Cape Town, South Africa received a daily supply of 13 .2 gallons of water which is only enough for a 10 ---minute shower! This restriction (限制) was introduced in preparation for April 22nd, also known as Day Zero, on which the city will turn off all municipal (市政) water taps because of the overuse of fresh water these years.

Over the past three years, Cape Town has suffered from a dangerous drought (干旱). That, along with a growing population of four million people, has caused water---supply drop strongly. As of November 2017, the water level in their largest water reservoir (水庫(kù)) had dropped to 28% from 102.9% in 2014. That amount is expected to come down to 13 .5% by April 22, 2018.What's worse, the last 10% of the reservoir's levels are not potable (safe to drink) because of the dirt at the bottom.

Firstly, researchers thought the cause of the drought was El Nio. Cape Town could become the first ever major city to run out of water. The government has called on people to conserve the little water they have left by way of prevention, including stopping car washing and filling up swimming pools. They are asking the public to cut showers to two minutes and reuse bathing water to flush the toilet.

When Cape Town reaches Day Zero, there will be 200 water stations scattered(分布) across the town for people to receive their daily supply of 6.6 gallons. Armed guards will stand by to make sure there is no violence(暴力沖突) or theft.

The water shortage has already influenced all parts of Cape Town. People's lives are being affected, with those in the tourism industry and businesses like car washing, seeing no chance to make a living. The relationship between people also becomes worse as neighbors are encouraged to report each other for water waste and the government plans to collect a drought tax(稅收) as they are losing tax money because of the low water use.

Then when my crop produced its fruit, the birds found it. The birds were not afraid of my dog at all. I shot them but as soon as I walked away, they returned. At last, I killed some birds and hung them among the crop, hoping they would make the birds afraid and fly away, which turned out to be successful. Indeed, although the rat study found a link between cell-phone radiation and cancer, it offers no clues to why such a link might exist, says Jonathan Samet. He teaches preventative medicine and directs the Institute for Global Health at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Still, he calls the new study’s findings “important”. They could lead to studies looking into how cell-phone radiation might result in cancer, he says.

Phone signals are relayed between cell towers and cell phones through radio waves. This radio frequency – or RF – radiation is a type known as non-ionizing（非離子化）. Unlike X-rays and alpha particles, non-ionizing radiation does not put enough energy into cells to release electrons from atoms（原子） or molecules（分子）, producing ions（離子）. So it tends to be far less harmful than ionizing radiation, such as X-rays. But that does not mean radio waves might not cause harm.

This radiation will heat the body and cause tissue damage. But it’s not yet known what much lower RF levels might do, such as those from cell-phone use. Five years ago, the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer, or IARC, concluded that cell-phone use “is possibly carcinogenic.” That means it might cause cancer.

Its conclusion was based on what little research data were available at that time. But notice that IARC was not certain. It said only that phone use might “possibly” cause cancer. So scientists at the National Toxicology Program, or NTP, decided to investigate further.
