Some people think only school children do not agree with their parents, however, it is not true. Communication is a problem for parents and children of all ages. If it's hard for you to communicate with your parents, don't worry about it. Here are some advice for you to bridge the generation gap(消除代溝).

Don't argue(爭辯) with your parents. Don't get to your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably won't agree with your ideas if you are shouting at them. And you can't express yourself well if you are angry. Go someplace to cool off. Make sure you understand why you are unhappy. Then think about what you want to say to your parents. If you don't think you can speak to them at the moment, try writing a letter.

Try to reach a compromise(和解). Perhaps you and your parents disagree on something. You can keep your disagreement and try your best to accept each other. Michael's mother didn't agree with him about buying a motorcycle. They argued over it. But they finally came to a compromise. Michael bought the motorcycle, but only drove it on certain days.

Of course, your parents might refuse to compromise on something. In these situations, it is especially important to show love and respect(尊敬) to them. Showing respect will keep your relationship strong.

Talk about your values(價值觀). The values of your parents are probably different from those of your own. Tell your parents what you care about and why. Understanding your values might help them see your purposes in life.

A good relationship with your parents can make you a better and happier person. It is worth having a try.

  (61) The passage tells us __________ have a communication problem.

  A. parents and other people              B. school kids and their parents

  (63) The underlined phrase "cool off" in the passage means "______________".

  A. to get you quiet and relaxed            B. to have a good rest

  C. to make yourself happy               D. to hide yourself quickly

  (64) If there's really a generation gap between you and your parents, you'd better __________.

  A. agree with them all the times           B. keep away from them

  C. have a talk with them often            D. know about their values

  (65) How do we make a good relationship with parents according to the writer?

  A. To talk about our values.              B. To always show love and respect to them.

Each year, thousands of Chinese middle school students go to study in foreign countries. Recent research shows among 428 middle school students in Shanghai, nearly half of them would like to study abroad(國外). "Chinese children are eager to go abroad to get a wider view, less academic (學(xué)業(yè)) competition or even family honour," said Chen Yi, a Chinese writer who has lived in the USA for 16 years. "But life in foreign countries can be hard for young people."

"We have to face the culture shock(差異) and language problems," said Hong Guang, a Chinese student in London. However, these are not always the most difficult things to overcome. To most children, controlling themselves when studying alone in a foreign country is a big challenge.

Zhang Jia, a 16-year-old student from Shanghai, entered high school in Melbourne, Australia last October. To his surprise, his teachers there seldom pushed students to study. And usually there wasn't much homework. Some of his friends spent their whole year's money in the first two months of the new term.

"Studying abroad at a young age can help students learn foreign languages quickly and broaden their minds, but students and parents should know about the challenges," Chen said.

  A. Half of the students in China would like to study abroad.

  (53) If students want to study alone in a foreign country, what is the most difficult thing to them?

  A. Money.      B. Culture shock.    C. Language.       D. To control themselves well.

  (54) Why do students in Australia have more free time than in China?

  A. Because teachers never pushed them to study.

  B. Because students don't have much homework.

  C. Because all the subjects they learn are too easy to them.

  D. Because schools give them a lot of play-time.

  (55) What's the article mainly about?

  A. How to study English well.          B. Whether it is good to study abroad.
