Never try to work when you are very hungry. If you decide to do your homework right after school, you may want to have something to eat before getting to work. Always do your homework before you get too tired. Don't wait until very late in the evening, or the work will seem much harder than it really is.
Break your time into periods that you can control. If you have more than an hour's work, give yourself a break after an hour. On the other hand don't break it up so much that you can't get anything done. You should be able to work at least half an hour at a time without stopping.
Don't put it off until the last minute. If you put off doing your homework, you will have it on your mind, and you won't enjoy your free time so much. If you put it off until the end of the week or until right before a test, you will have too much catching up to do for you really to learn. A little bit each night, enough to keep up with what is happening each day at school, will take the fear(憂慮) out of tests and keep you on top of it all.
Do your homework at the same time every day. This will help you make it a habit-part of your daily work. It will make it easier to do, and it will make your free time more enjoyable as well.

As many as 10 of the 17 kinds of penguins may be in danger of disappearing. The numbers of penguins have decreased(減少) by 30% since 1987.
Penguins are black and white birds that live in the southern half of the world. They are common to South America, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. Many live near cold waters. But some live near warm waters in the Galapagos Islands. Penguins cannot fly. But they are fine swimmers. Penguins eat fish and krill(磷蝦).
The warming of the earth is the decrease in penguin populations. The heating of the air has caused ocean waters to become warmer. Higher water temperatures have reduced the supply of fish and krill. Some years these birds are completely unable to reproduce(繁殖). Besides, many adult penguins die of hunger.
Widespread(廣泛的) fishing, exploration for oil and oil leaks(漏) also make penguins be in danger. Poisonous organisms(生物) in ocean water are another danger. Penguins also have their enemies, including wild dogs, sharks, seals and sea lions.
News about penguins is not all bad, however. Several years ago, oil leaking from a ship hurt 40% of the penguins in South Africa. The penguins became covered with oil. But thousands of people helped clean and treat the birds. Then they returned the penguins to the wild. Now these South African penguins are reproducing in higher numbers than before the oil leaking.
1.Penguins ________.
[ ]
A.can swim better than fly
B.can be found near Oceania(大洋洲)
C.eat fish only
D.live only in cold waters
2.Which of the following is NOT the cause of penguin's decrease in numbers?
[ ]
A.Oil searching.
B.Widespread fishing.
C.Human's killing.
D.Warming of the oceans.
3.Why are the penguins in South Africa reproducing in higher numbers than before, the oil leaking?
[ ]
A.Because people removed the ship.
B.Because people sent a lot of penguins to the wild.
C.Because people helped the penguins.
D.Because people treated the penguins.

Along with the Great Pyramid(金字塔) of Giza in Egypt, the Great Sphinx is one of the greatest and most studied monuments(紀(jì)念碑) of human history.
Carved(雕刻) from a single piece of stone of hundreds of tons, the Sphinx is the head of a man resting on the body of a lion.
The nose, eyes and ears have all been carved in the terrific proportions(比例). That's not easy for an object 180 metres long, 64 metres high and 35 metres wide.
No one knows what tools were used to carve the stone, when this was done, or by whom. The Egyptians wrote very little about the building of the Sphinx.
There are basically two schools of thought about how it was built.
No one knows what the Sphinx looked like when it was first finished because both natural erosion(侵蝕) and damage(破壞) done by man have changed its shape.
Many earlier pictures of the Sphinx show it with wings(翅膀), the body of a lion and ox(公牛), and the face of a man. Today only the man and the lion can be seen.
To this day, people can't agree with each other on the true role(作用) of the Sphinx.
1.The writer wrote this text to ________.
[ ]
A.tell us some information about the Sphinx
B.talk about the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt
C.tell us what the Sphinx looks like today
D.tell us to visit the Sphinx

Most children with healthy appetites(食欲) are ready to eat almost anything that is offered to them. A child often likes food unless it is badly cooked. The way a meal is cooked and served is most important and an attractively served meal will often improve a child's appetite. Never ask a child whether he likes or dislikes a food and never discuss likes and dislikes in front of him or allow anybody else to do so. If the father says that he hates fat meat or the mother refuses some vegetables in the child's hearing, he may copy this action. Parents should agree to the fact that he likes everything and he probably will. Nothing healthy should be got out of from the meal because of a supposed dislike. At meal times it is a good idea to give a child a small part and let him come back for a second helping rather than give him as much as he may eat all at once. Do not talk too much to the child during meal times, but let him get on with his food; and do not allow him to leave the table at once after a meal, or he will soon learn to eat his food hurriedly so he can hurry back to the toys in his room. On no condition(任何情況下都不) must a child be coaxed(哄騙) or made to eat.
1.A child with a healthy appetite will eat ________ if it is not badly cooked.
[ ]
A.only a little of the food
B.a(chǎn)ll the food
C.some of the food
D.a(chǎn)lmost alt the food
2.________ can make a child like eating more.
[ ]
A.Offering as much as possible
B.Playing with toys
C.The way a meal is well cooked and served
D.The way parents eat
3.Which of the following is a good action before a child during meal times?

A.To discuss the food a parent dislikes.
B.To ask a child what food he likes or dislikes.
C.Never to discuss likes or dislikes of food.
