三詞均有“給，供給，提供”的意思。其區(qū)別是：

(1) afford指為一定的目的而“給，提供”所需要的東西；give指無(wú)需償還地把金錢(qián)、物品、時(shí)間、麻 煩等有形或無(wú)形的東西“送給，授予，供給”某人;provide主要指為某人、某物或某事“提供，供 應(yīng)”某物品，尤指生活必需品。

(2) afford后面可跟不定式或動(dòng)名詞，還常用在can,could,be able to后面表示“擔(dān)負(fù)得起”某事物 的費(fèi)用、損失、后果等，以及“抽得出”時(shí)間、人力，其后可接雙賓語(yǔ)，意思是“向某人提供某物”； provide后面可接for,with和against等介詞;supply后可接介詞to。
