Bacteria(細(xì)菌) are extremely small living things. While we measure our own sizes in inches or centimeters, bacterial size is measured in micron. One micron is a thousandth of a millimeter; a pinhead is about a millimeter across. Rod-shaped bacteria are usually from two to four microns long, while rounded ones are generally one micron across. Thus, if you magnified a rounded bacterium a thousand times, it would be just the size of a pinhead, while a grown-up human enlarged by the same amount would be over a mile tall.
Even with an ordinary microscope(顯微鏡), you must look closely to see bacteria. Using a magnification of 100 times, one can hardly find bacteria. Nor can one make out anything of their structure(結(jié)構(gòu)), of course. Only by using special colors, can one see that some bacteria have wavy-looking “hairs” called flagella. Others have only one flagellum. The flagella move round a central point, pushing the bacteria through the water. Many bacteria lack flagella and cannot move about by their own power, while others can move along over surface by some little-understood “machinery”.
From the bacterial point of view, the world is a very different place from what it is to humans. To a bacterium, water is as thick as molasses(糖漿) is to us. Bacteria are so small that they are affected by the movements of the chemical molecules(分子) around them. Bacteria under microscopes, even those with no flagella, often jump up and down in the water. This is because they knock with the water molecules and are pushed this way and that.

Doctors say anger can be an extremely damaging emotion, unless you learn how to deal with it. They warn that anger can lead to heart disease, stomach problems, headaches, emotional problems and possibly cancer.
Anger is a normal emotion that we all feel from time to time. Some people express anger openly in a calm reasonable way. Others burst with anger, and scream and yell. But other people keep their anger inside. They can not or will not express it. This is called repressing anger.
For years many doctors thought that repressing anger was more dangerous to a person's health than expressing it. They said that when a person is angry, the brain releases the same hormones (荷爾蒙).They speed the heart rate, raise blood pressure, or sugar into the blood, etc.In general the person feels excited and ready to act.
Some doctors say that both repressing and expressing anger can be dangerous. They believe that those who express anger violently may be more likely to develop heart disease, and they believe that those who keep their anger inside may face a greater danger of high blood pressure.
Doctors say the solution is learning how to deal with anger. They say the first step is to admit that you are angry and to recognize the real cause of the anger, then decide if the cause is serious enough to get angry about. If it is, they say, “Do not express your anger while angry. Wait until your anger has cooled down and you are able to express yourself calmly and reasonably.”
Doctors say that a good way to deal with anger is to find humor in the situation that has made you angry. They said that laughter is much healthier than anger.

Chatting online can be great fun,but remember, you never really know who you are talking to online. It could be someone trying to trick you, some kind of weirdo(古怪的人),or someone really dangerous. Here are some tips to help you keep safe:
●  1. Never use your real name in chat rooms.
●  2. Never tell anyone personal things about yourself or your family—like your address or telephone number ,or the school or clubs you go to.That goes for sending them photos as well(that way if you don’t want to hear from them again, you only have to log off.) Remember, even if somebody tells you about themselves, never tell them things about you.
●  3. If you arrange to meet up with someone you’ve only spoken to once, remember that they might not be who they said they were,so only meet people in public places and take along an adult.
●   4. Never respond to nasty(淫穢的)or rude messages, and never send any either! If you feel uncomfortable about the way a conversation is going,or if it’s getting really personal, save a record of it and stop the conversation. That way you can show someone and ask what they think.
●  5. Be careful with any emails or links that people send you, they might contain nasty (淫穢的)pictures,or computer “viruses” that could ruin your computer. So if you____________                    , don’t open it.

閱讀下面的短文,并根據(jù)短文后的要求答題。(請(qǐng)注意問(wèn)題后的字?jǐn)?shù)要求)
Most young people enjoy some form of physical activity. It may be walking, cycling, or swimming, or in winter, skating or skiing. It may be a game of some form---football, basketball, hockey, golf or tennis. It may be mountaineering.
Those who have a passion for climbing high and difficult mountains are often looked upon with astonishment. Why are men and women willing to suffer cold and hardship, and to take risks(冒險(xiǎn)) in high mountains? This astonishment is caused, probably, by the difference between mountaineering and other forms of activity to which men give their leisure(閑暇).
Mountaineering is a sport and not a game. There are no man-made rules as others, as there are for such games as golf and football. There are, of course, rules of different kind which it would be dangerous to ignore忽視), but it is this freedom from man-made rules that makes mountaineering attractive to many people. Those who climb mountains are free to use their own methods.
If we compare mountaineering and other more familiar sports, we might think that one big difference is that mountaineering is not a “team game”. We should be mistaken in this. There are, it is true, no “matches” between “teams” of climbers, but when climbers are on a rock face linked by a rope on which their lives may depend, there is obviously teamwork.
The mountain climber knows that he may have to fight forces that are stronger and more powerful than man. He has to fight the forces of nature. His sport requires high mental and physical qualities.
A mountain climber continues to improve in skill year after year. A skier is probably past his best by the age of thirty. But it is not unusual for men of fifty or sixty to climb the highest mountains in the Alps. They may take more time than younger men, but they perhaps climb with more skill and less waste of effort, and they certainly experience equal enjoyment.

【2】 In fact, there's a well-established theory that moderate physical activity is, for most people, the best way to better health. 【5】You don't have to do the whole 30 minutes in one go. Your half-hour could be made up of three ten-minute bursts of activity spread through the day, if you prefer.
【6】The activity can be a 'lifestyle activity' (in other words, walking to the shops or taking the dog out) or structured exercise or sport, or a combination of these. But it does need to be of at least moderate intensity.

第二節(jié)簡(jiǎn)答題(共4小題; 10分)
閱讀短文,根據(jù)所要求的字?jǐn)?shù)回答問(wèn)題。
Almost everybody in America will spend a part of his or her life behind a shopping cart (購(gòu)物手推車(chē)). They will, in a lifetime, push the chrome-plated contraptions many miles. But few will know—or even think to ask—who it was that invented them.
Sylvan N. Goldman invented the shopping cart in 1937. At that time he was in the supermarket business. Every day he would see shoppers lugging (吃力地?cái)y帶) groceries around in baskets they had to carry.
One day Goldman suddenly had the idea of putting baskets on wheels. The wheeled baskets would make shopping much easier for his customers, and would help to attract more business.
On June 4, 1937, Goldman’s first carts were ready for use in his market. He was terribly excited on the morning of that day as customers began arriving. He couldn’t wait to see them using his invention.
But Goldman was disappointed. Most shoppers gave the carts a long look, but hardly anybody would give them a try.
After a while, Goldman decided to ask customers why they weren’t using his carts. “Don’t you think this arm is strong enough to carry a shopping basket?” one shopper replied.
But Goldman wasn’t beaten yet. He knew his carts would be a great success if only he could persuade people to give them a try. To this end, Goldman hired a group of people to push carts around his market and pretend they were shopping! Seeing this, the real customers gradually began copying the phony (假冒的) customers.{007}
As Goldman had hoped, the carts were soon attracting larger and larger numbers of customers to his market. But not only did more people come—those who came bought more. With larger, easier-to-handle baskets, customers unconsciously bought a greater number of items than before.
Today’s shopping carts are five times larger than Goldman’s original model. Perhaps that’s one reason Americans today spend more than five times as much money on food each year as they did before 1937—before the coming of the shopping cart.
86. What was the purpose of Goldman’s invention? (No more than 13 words)

When I walk through the streets of San Francisco’s business districts, white people stare at me as if I were a circus clown.
Their staring eyes don’t see that I get ________ A’s in school, or that I am a captain of the football team, or that I belong to ______youth organizations. All they see is that I am 6-foot-4, young, black, and male---a potential _______to them.
White men look at me as if I am up to no good, or as if they are ________to me. White women just look at me with________, say, sometimes they cross the street when they see my friends and me coming, or walk in the street and only get back on the sidewalk after we ________.
Many people come to San Francisco to get away from the stereotypes(成見(jiàn)) of the cities they were born and ________ in. The majority of the blacks and Latinos who live in this city don’t have that luxury.
How can you feel at home when people are__________telling you to get back to Africa or Mexico ----or just back to “where you belong”?
My way of dealing with this kind of thing has ________over the years. In the past, when my friends and I would walk the streets and a hundred pairs of white eyes would look at me as if we were the lowest form of dirt, it would make us angry enough to hurt or _______them.
Now I’m more likely to use ________ to defend myself against those eyes. To women who clutch their purse in terror, I’ll say, “Man, I ain’t gonna do anything to you, I got money in my pocket!” My cousin has even started wearing a T-shirt _______ in big letters, “NO, WHITE LADY, I DON'T’ WANT YOUR PURSE.”
The most painful thing is when we get those______ stares from black people, especially elderly ones. I want o say to them, “We’re black, too. Why would we do something to you?”
Usually I react more _______to all of this than a lot of my friends do. Some of them, so brainwashed, just think it’s part of life and that there is nothing you can do.
But for me, that’s not good enough. I just can’t stand it when every day a hundred pair of eyes tell you you’re not__________.

My nephew’s 10-year-old son came for a visit one hot, July weekend. I persuaded him to inside and joined him in a game. After for an hour, I suggested that we relax for a while. I fell into my favorite recliner(躺椅)to let my neck muscles relax. He'd slipped out of the room and I was catching a few moments of peace and quiet.
"Look,Alice,” he said as he ran over to the chair where I was sitting "I found a kite. Could we go outside and it?"
Glancing out a nearby window, I noticed it was outside. “I'm sorry, Tripper,.” I said, sad to see his eyes. "The wind is not blowing today. The kite won't fly.”
The 10-year-old replied, “I think it's enough. I can get it to fly,” he answered as he ran out to the back door .
Up and down in the yard he ran, pulling the kite to a small length of string. He ran back and forth,as hard as his ten year-old would carry him, looking back at the kite behind. After about ten minutes of determination, he came back in.
I asked, "How did it go?"
"Fine,”he said, not wanting to admit .“I got it to fly some”
As he walked past me to return the kite to the closet shelf, I heard him say under his breath, "I guess I'll have to wait for the .”

And the voice was right. We usually want to use our own efforts to what we want to do. We wait for the Wind only after we have done all we can and have exhausted(耗盡)our own .We must learn how to rely on Him in the first place!
