【題目】When many people think about planting a tree, they do not realize that there are several things that they need to consider. You can’t simply just dig a single hole, throw the tree into that space, and expect it to grow without any disease. 1

The first thing that you need to take into account is the time of year that you are looking to plant the tree in. Believe it or not, in order to plant a tree that will stay alive and be able to survive, you have to plant it at the time of year that is right for the tree. 2 The burning sun during these periods of time will cause a big amount of stress of the tree, which will then lead to its death. 3

4 You should choose a suitable region and climate for the tree. If you decide to plant a tree that is not a native of a particular climate, you need to consider different factors about the tree such as the growth habits of the tree and how much tolerance the tree has to different weather conditions.

5 Sometimes in cases where people will be digging deep holes to plant a tree, they need to make sure that they are not digging around the phone lines that may be buried below the surface. Among other things, the hole determines if the tree can survive.

A. Normally you should never plant a tree in late spring or summer.

B. When digging a hole for a tree, you’d better dig as deep as possible.

C. You should then look at the place where you plan to plant the tree in.

D. The best time to consider planting your tree is around autumn or early spring.

E. The tree will not only be planted but will continue to grow well for years to come.

F. The next thing that you need to know is whether there are requirements where you’ll dig.

G. There are a few basic things that you need to do in order to make sure the tree grows healthily.

【題目】When you see someone you know, the easiest way to recognize them is by their face—but not everyone can do this. Many people have prosopagnosia, or face blindness, which is a neurological(神經(jīng)病學(xué)的)condition where the part o the brain that recognizes faces fails to develop. It can stop people recognizing partners, family members, friends or even their own reflection. It was once though to be caused by brain injury (acquired prosopagnosia) but now a genetic link has been proved (development prosopagnosia).

Acquired prosopagnosia is a very rare but as many as one in 50 people may have developmental prosopagnosia. There’s no specific treatment, but training programmes are being developed to help improve facial recognition.

For many, the situation can be dangerous. I’ve heard stories of people being robbed by strangers claiming to be family members, or of children wandering off strange men.

It was only is this century that researchers began to realize exactly how many people in this world were quietly living with the condition.

Like a blind person who can recognize family members by their footsteps, prosopagnosics are forced to develop unusual ways of discovering who it is they’re meeting or talking to. From the obvious markers like hair and voice, to the way one sits, stands or walks, they rely on dozens of means to get through ordinary life.

Faces are an important part of identity. Not to be recognized feels terrible—it’s as if you’ve been overlooked, like someone’s saying you don’t matter. But it’s nothing to the pain of knowing that you’re hurting people’s feelings constantly, and yet being completely unaware that you’re doing it in the moment. To be alienated(隔離的)from the world of faces is a strange position to be in, but I’m comforted by the thought that articles like this will do a little to help people forgive me and others like me.

1Why do some people have developmental prosopagnosia?

A. Mainly due to brain injury.

B. Mainly due to their life styles.

C. Mainly for biological reasons.

D. Mainly for psychological reasons.

2What can we learn about prosopagnosia?

A. We can do nothing to deal with it.

B. One fifth of people suffer from it.

C. It can be cured by training programmes.

D. Developmental prosopagnosia is more common.

3Like a blind person, people with prosopagnosia ________.

A. depend on their families for a normal life.

B. are embarrassed about their condition.

C. are usually laughed at by other people.

D. have special ways to recognize people

4What can we infer about people with prosopagnosia from the last paragraph?

A. They are unfriendly to others.

B. They feel hurting others doesn’t matter.

C. They often make others feel ignored.

D. They avoid communicating with others.

【題目】Israel has passed a law banning the use of underweight models in advertising. Known as the “Photoshop Law”, it also requires that agencies tell their audience if they’ve digitally changed pictures to make models look thinner.

The new law forbids the use of models with a body mass index of 18.5 or less, a standard based on internationally accepted measures. The figure matches the set of fixed limits by the U. S. Department of Health.

The law doesn’t set a money amount that can be gained in court from such a suit. Lawmakers realize that it may be a long and difficult process to prove in court that a company broke the new law, but they feel that simply having the law in place will accomplish what they want; stopping advertising companies from continuing to influence Israelis with images of unhealthy-looking models as the gold standard of beauty.

Some modeling agencies in Israel aren’t happy. They say that the indexes on which the law is based are arbitrary (任意的)and are not suitable for every model. Many models who are totally healthy girls might be disqualified because of the law. Some models are naturally thin and unable to gain weight and the new law would unfairly prevent them from finding jobs.

However, plus-size American supermodel Emme told CNN that she thinks the law will cause other countries to make similar measures against showing underweight models. “I think this is fantastic because so many young women and men are suffering to look in a way that is unrealistic and unhealthy,” she said.

1What is “Photoshop Law” about?

A. Banning the use of underweight models.

B. Banning underweight models in advertising.

C. Banning changing pictures digitally.

D. Banning models in advertising.

2The underlined word “suit” in Paragraph 3 means .

A. a set of clothing

B. a group of rooms

C. an action in court

D. a performance in advertising

3What can we know from the passage?

A. All models are happy about the law.

B. All advertising agencies are happy about the law.

C. The law makes no sense.

D. There are arguments over the beauty standard of models.
