【題目】任務型閱讀This Way to Dreamland
Daydreaming means people think about something pleasant, especially when this makes them forget what they should be doing. Daydreamers have a bad reputation for not realizing what's happening around them. They can seem forgetful and clumsy(笨拙的) They upsets us because they seem to be ignoring us and missing the important things..
But daydreamers are also responsible for some of the greatest ideas and achievements in human history. Without wandering minds, we wouldn't have relativity(相對論), Coke or Post-it notes..
So how can you come up with wonderful daydreams and avoid falling over tree roots or otherwise looking like a fool?
First, understand that some opportunities for daydreaming are better than others. Feeling safe and relaxed will help you to slip into daydreams. And if you want to improve your chances of having a creative idea while you're daydreaming, try to do it while you are involved(參與) in another task—preferably something simple, like taking a shower or walking, or even making meaningless drawings.
It's also important to know how to avoid daydreams for those times when you really need to concentrate. “Mindfulness”, being focused, is a tool that some people use to avoid falling asleep
Finally, you never know what wonderful idea might strike while your mind has moved slowly away .Always remember that your best ideas might come when your head is actually in the clouds.
A.It includes slow, steady(平穩(wěn)的) breathing for self-control that helps people stay calm and attentive.
B. Therefore, it's a good idea to keep a notebook or voice recorder nearby when you're in the daydream zone.
C. At one time, daydreaming was thought to be a cause of some mental illnesses.
D. Can you imagine what kind of world we would have without such ideas and inventions?
E. Daydreams are often very simple and direct, quite unlike sleep dreams, which may be hard to understand.
F. They stare off into space and wander(閑逛) by themselves.
G. Having interesting things to think about also helps.

【題目】The Indian government may use 3D paintings as virtual speed breakers(減速帶) on major highways and roads, in order to check speeding and careless driving, and finally make its deadly roads a little safer. "We are trying out 3D paintings used as virtual speed breakers to avoid unnecessary requirements of speed breakers," India's transport minister Nitin Gadkari wrote.

The optical illusions(視覺錯覺) are supposed to encourage drivers to slow down automatically. Earlier, India had ordered the removal of all speed breakers from highways, which are considered to be a safety hazard for high-speed vehicles. India has the highest number of road accident deaths in the world. According to the World Health Organisation, over 200000 people are killed by road accidents.

The use of optical illusions as speed breakers was first pioneered in the American city of Philadelphia in 2008, as part of a campaign against speeding motorists. The technique has also been tried out in China to create floating 3D crossings. In India, cities such as Ahmedabad and Chennai have already experimented with 3D zebra crossings in the last one year. In Ahmedabad for instance, a mother and her daughter, both artists, have painted 3D crosswalks in the first few months of 2016. The artists say their motto is "to increase the attention of drivers", and that the concept has been successfully tested in accident-prone zones on a highway.

However, critics argue that once drivers know that these speed breakers are visual illusions, they may ignore them. Others also point out that India's decision does not consider the safety of a large number of pedestrians. In the end, the new policy may be just one step towards improving road safety.

1Why are 3D paintings used on main highways and roads?

A. To make the surroundings more beautiful.

B. To attract the attention of tourists.

C. To reduce the rate of traffic accidents.

D. To show the advanced technology.

2Which of the following words is closest to the meaning of “hazard” in paragraph 2?

A. Reminder B. Threat

C. Regulation D. Theory

3What can we learn from Paragraph 3 and 4?

A. The use of optical illusions as speed breakers is controversial in India.

B. Philadelphia is the second place to use virtual speed breakers in the US.

C. The idea tested in Ahmedabad recently has been a failure.

D. The new policy of 3D zebra crossings must be carried out.

【題目】閱讀理解
Publishers of books for beginning readers are in the business of doing whatever they can to make children develop a love of reading. At times, that means they'll produce books that are more colorful and more packed with pictures. But it turns out that when it comes to learning to read books, more pictures aren't always better.
In fact, simply having more than one picture on a page can negatively(消極地) affect the ability of preschoolers to learn words from that page, according to a new study by researchers at the University of Sussex. “Storybook reading is a great activity to help children increase their vocabularies,” writes co-author Zoe M. Flack in the University's School of Psychology blog.
But the illustrations(插圖) can affect how well children will learn new words. “For example,” Flack writes, “We know that children learn words better if illustrations are realistic.” Also, studies have shown that adding bells and whistles(哨聲) to storybooks may negatively affect learning, according to Jessica S. Horst, Flack's co-author for the study. “We also know that children look within illustrations for the things they hear in the story, so if the story mentions a girl dropping an ice cream, children will look at the ice cream in the illustration.”
With that in mind, Dr. Horst and Ms. Flack began to wonder what would happen when picture books show many illustrations on a page and how young children who haven't yet learned to read know which illustration to look at while listening to a story. To find out, they read storybooks that displayed either one or two illustrations per page to 36 three-year-old children. As it turns out, children who listened to stories with only one illustration at a time learned twice as many words as children who listened with two or more illustrations.
(1)Why do publishers produce books with many colorful pictures?
A.Because such books help kids improve their imagination.
B.Because parents are more interested in such books.
C.Because they want to help kids love reading.
D.Because such books are easier to produce.
(2)What does Zoe M. Flack say about storybook reading?
A.It helps kids learn new words.
B.Illustrations aren't that necessary.
C.More words should be added to a story.
D.It helps kids improve their reading ability.
(3)What did the researchers find through their research?
A.Reading is a very important activity.
B.One page should have only one illustration for kids.
C.Children know what books they should read.
D.Children don't really love looking at illustrations.
(4)According to the passage, the findings can help publishers____________.
A.choose better stories for children
B.produce more types of storybooks
C.Produce better books for little kids
D.Make more money through producing books

1. MeituPic

Developed by the Xiamen-based Meitu Inc, MeituPic is the company’s flagship beauty camera app and was the first to become a big hit among Western users. The app has drawn some 456 million users, who use it to post more than 6 billion photos every month.

In addition to MeituPic, Meitu Inc has developed a series of beauty camera apps such as Beauty Plus, Poster Labs and Meipai, each specializing in facial feature improvement, video editing and many other features.

Tian Tian Pi Tu, is a beauty app developed by China’s Internet giant Tencent. Similar to other photo-editing apps, Pitu offers a number of beautifying filters, blemish(瑕疵) removing tools and virtual makeup choices for users to choose from.

Launched in 2014, Pitu has accumulated 106 million monthly active users (MAUs). While the number is not as impressive as that of Meitu’ s apps, some argue that the user base of Tencent’ s gaming products and chat applications, such as QQ and WeChat, gives Pitu great potential for further growth. According to Chinese app watchers, Pitu’ s target audience is younger and more individualized than that of MeituPic. 80 percent of Pitu’ s users are younger than 25, giving the app more room to try out more new features.

3. FaceU

In contrast with most other beauty apps, FaceU, focuses more on the social feature, encouraging users to video chat with friends and even strangers while playing with its fun stickers (貼紙) — and the strategy is undoubtedly working. Launched in 2016, the app, which mainly targets female users between 15 and 35, has twice made it onto the Apple store’ s Chart for top apps.
