5.American society is not nap(午睡)friendly.In fact,says David Dinges,a sleep specialist at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine."There's even a ban against admitting we need sleep."Nobody wants to be caught napping or found asleep at work.A proverb says:"Some sleep five hours,nature requires seven,laziness nine and wickedness(邪惡) eleven."
Wrong!The way not to fall asleep at work is to take naps when you need them."We have to totally change our attitude toward napping,"says Dr William Dement of Stanford University,the godfather of sleep research.
Last year a national commission(委員會) led by Dement put forward an "American sleep debt" which one member said was as important as the national debt.The commission was concerned about the dangers of sleepiness:people causing industrial accidents of falling asleep while working.This may be why we have a new sleep policy in the White House.According to recent reports,our President is trying to take a half-hour nap every afternoon.
About 60percent of American adults nap when given the opportunity.We seem to have"a mid-afternoon quiet state",or"a secondary sleep gate".Sleeping 15minutes to two hours in the early afternoon can reduce stress and make us refreshed.Clearly,we were born to nap.
We Superstars of Napping don't nap just to make up for the lost sleep after a night shift(夜班).Rather,we take it,whenever,wherever and at whatever time we feel like it.I myself have napped in buses,cars,planes and on boats; on floors and beds; and in libraries,offices and museums.

The way not to fall asleep at work is to take naps when you need them.We have to totally change our attitude toward napping.工作時不睡著的方法是當你困的時候就小睡一下,我們必須完全改變我們對于小睡的態(tài)度.可知,本文的意圖是使讀者認識到小睡的必要性.故答案為D
59:A  細節(jié)題.由第一段可知,美國人不重視午睡,沒有人想在工作時被發(fā)現(xiàn)在打盹或睡著了,還有一句俗語來抨擊午睡,可見是傳統(tǒng)觀念在誤導(dǎo)著他們.故選A

15.Dolls(娃娃)come in all shapes and sizes. Many people like to collect them. The reason is probably that dolls make people feel like they just gave birth to their own children.
One famous doll company is Madame Alexander. The dolls it produces are usually bought by mothers for their daughters to play with. Two of the most expensive dolls they have are Kathleen Toddler whose market price today is from 125to300 and Binnie, which costs about 175to475.
Cabbage Patch Kids are another kind of dolls. That company's marketing policy is different because you don't buy a doll but rather adopt one.You just have to pay a small, regular fee. They were very successful in the 1980s.

Another company that makes dolls is Tiny Miracles. They have a collection called the Ashton Drake Galleries that consists of 10-inch-long babies. They are not sold in stores,so if you want one,you have to order it straight from Tiny Miracles.
These are just a few of the baby dolls on the market. The best place to sell dolls is online because almost everyone has a computer and the company can make money here much more easily than by putting an ad in the newspaper. The companies don't even have to create their own websites because they can use auction(拍賣)sites, meaning they just have to open an account.

16."Tear'em apart!""Kill the fool!Murder the referee(裁判)!"
These are common remarks one may hear at various sporting events.At the time they are made,they may seem innocent(無辜的) enough.But let's not kid ourselves.They have been known to influence behavior in such a way as to lead to real bloodshed(流血).Volumes have been written about the way words affect us.It has been shown that words having certain connotation(涵義)may cause us to react in ways quite foreign to what we consider to be our usual humanistic behavior.I see the term"opponent"as one of those words.Perhaps the time has come to delete(刪除) it from sports terrors.(恐怖)
The dictionary meaning of the term"opponent"is"adversary";"enemy";"one who opposes your interests."Thus,when a player meets an opponent,he or she may tend to treat that opponent as an enemy.At such times,winning may dominate (支配)one's intellect(智力),and every action,no matter how gross (rude),may be considered justifiable(無可非議的).I recall an incident in a handball game when a referee refused a player's request for a time out for a glove change because he did not consider them wet enough.The player proceeded to rub his gloves across his wet T-shirt and then exclaimed,"Are they wet enough now?"
In the heat of battle players have been observed to throw themselves across the court without considering the consequences that such a move might have on anyone in their way.I have also witnessed a player reacting to his opponent's international and illegal blocking by deliberately hitting him with the ball as hard as he could during the course of play.Off the court,they are good friends.Does that make any sense?It certainly,gives proof of a court attitude which departs(背離) from (goes against) normal behavior.
Therefore,I believe it is time we elevated(提升)the game to the level where it belongs thereby (因而)setting an example to the rest of the sporting world.Replacing the term"opponent"with"associate"could be an ideal way to start.
The dictionary meaning of the term"associate"is"colleague","friend","companion".Reflect a moment!You may soon see and possibly feel the difference in your reaction to the term"associate"rather than"opponent".

56.Which of the following statements best expresses the author's view?B
A.Aggressive behavior in sports can have serious consequences.
B.The words people use can influence their behavior.
C.Unpleasant words in Sports are often used by foreign athletes.
D.Unfair judgments by referees will lead to violence on the sports field.
57.Harsh words are spoken during games because the playersD.
A.a(chǎn)re too eager to win
B.a(chǎn)re usually short-tempered and easily offended
C.cannot afford to be polite in fierce competition
D.treat their rivals as enemies
58.What did the handball player,do when he was not allowed a time out to change his gloves?D
A.He refused to continue the game.
B.He angrily hit the referee with a ball.
C.He claimed that the referee was unfair.
D.He wet his gloves by rubbing them across his T-shirt.
59.The author hopes to have the current situation in sports improved byC.
A.calling on players to use clean language on the court
B.raising the referee's sense of responsibility
C.changing the attitude of players on the sports field

13.The iPhone, the iPad:each of Apple's products sounds cool and has become a fad(一時的風(fēng)尚).Apple has cleverly taken advantage of the power of the letter"i"---and many other brands are following suit. The BBC's iPlayer---which allows Web users to watch TV programs on the Internet---used the title in 2008.A lovely bear---popular in the US and UK---that plays music and video is called"iTeddy".A slimmed-down version(簡裝本) of London's Independent newspaper was started last week under the name"i".
In general,single-letter prefixes(前綴) have been popular since the 1990s,when terms such as e-mail and e-commerce(電子商務(wù)) first came into use.
Most"i"products are targeted at (針對)young people and considering the major readers of Independent's"i",it's no surprise that they've selected this fashionable name.
But it's hard to see what's so special about the letter"i".Why not use"a","b",or"c"instead?According to Tony Thorne, head of the Language Center at King's College,London,"i"works because its meaning has become ambiguous. When Apple uses"i",no one knows whether it means Internet, information, individual or interactive,Thorne told BBC Magazines."Even when Apple created the iPod,it seems it didn't have one clear definition(定義),"he says.
"However, thanks to Apple, the term is now connected with portability (輕便)."adds Thorne.
Clearly the letter"i"also agrees with the idea that the Western World is centered on the individual. Each person believes they have their own needs, and we love personalized products for this reason.
Along with"Google"and"blog",readers of BBC Magazines voted"i"as one of the top 20 words that have come to define the last decade(十年).
But as history shows, people grow tired of fads. From the 1900s to 1990s,products with"2000"in their names became fashionable as the year was connected with all things advanced and modern. However,as we entered the new century, the fashion disappeared.
