【題目】An American skydiver has survived a 7, 600-meter jump from an airplane, although he did not use a parachute(降落傘). Luke Aikins dropped into a huge safety net on Saturday after falling for about two minutes over the desert in California. Aikins reached a speed of 193 kilometers per hour during the jump. He fell safe into a net. Cranes(起重機) 1(hold) the net about 65 meters over the desert floor. The 42-year-old husband and father has jumped out of planes thousands of times, but never once 2 he left a plane without a parachute. Aikins said he was nervous before this jump. “We’re talking about jumping without a parachute,” he told reporters. "I take that very 3 (serious). It’s not a joke.” Aikins prepared for two years 4(make) the jump. Three skydivers with parachutes made the jump with him. They recorded the event with a video and carried the 5 (equip) that Aikins needed, like an oxygen mask. Aikins rolled in the air just moments before he hit the net so as to land on his back. The sky-diver did not move for several seconds as the net was lowered to the ground. Then, Aikins stood, waved his arms and hugged his wife.

【答案】

1held

2had

3seriously

4to make

5equipment

【解析】這是一篇記敘文。美國跳傘運動員Luke Aikins在沒有降落傘的情況下,成功從7, 600米高空的飛機上跳下。文章記敘了Luke Aikins成功跳機的全過程。

1考查時態(tài)。由上一句“He fell safe into a net”可知,該部分描述的是Aikins落下來時起重機的作用,故該句時態(tài)和上一句一致,故該空填hold的過去式。

Charles was always hardworking in school. He had decided that his first object was to get his lessons well, and then he could play with a good conscience. He loved playing as well as anybody, and was one of the best players on the ground. I hardly ever saw anybody catch a ball better than he could. When playing any game, everyone was glad to get Charles on his side.

Charles would sometimes stay in at break. This, however, was very seldom; it was only when the lessons were very hard indeed. Generally, he was among the first on the playground, and he was also among the first to go into school when called. The teacher could not help liking him, for he always had his lessons well committed, and never gave him any trouble.

When he went to college, the teacher gave him a good recommendation. He was so thoroughly prepared for college that he found it very easy to keep up with his class, and had much time for reading interesting books.

At last he graduated and received his degree. His father and mother, brothers and sisters, came to his graduation ceremony. They all felt excited and loved Charles more than ever. Many situations of profit were opened to him; for Charles was now an intelligent man, and universally respected.

【題目】Women make better drivers than men for many reasons. Why is that, do you suppose? Wouldn’t you think that competing at who has better driving abilities is pointless? If you ask me, I’d like to say, men know that women are better drivers but do not have the courage to admit the truth—women are queens of the road.

Unlike men, women stop for directions when they have no idea as to where they are going. We don’t drive around for hours pointlessly wasting a tank of gas only to find ourselves heading in the wrong direction. Have you ever in a car with a man who is lost? He tells you to shut up when you begin to open your mouth. And every five minutes or so he takes a turn going forty-five miles per hour only to find out he’s made another wrong turn.

Speeding is what men do best on the road. Traffic is not a race. There is a reason why men get more speeding tickets than women. Not because we trick to get out of tickets but only because we don’t get pulled over as frequently. We don’t speed. We have more intelligence than senselessly to put our own lives as well as the lives of others in danger.

My largest issue with male drivers is how a majority of them drive with one hand on the wheel and the other hand doing only God knows what. The seat is backed as far as possible, and they’re totally lost into loud music beyond a necessary level. You don’t ever see women driving like that.

I feel that the above evidence more than proves my points that women are not only better drivers but also safer drivers than men. We women rule the road. Oh, and men, if you want to continue criticizing women for being bad drivers, bring it on. We know you lack confidence, or else you wouldn’t be wasting your valuable time making jokes about the ones you may choose to spend the rest of your days with.

1If a woman driver feels lost, she will ________.

A. stop the car and ask people for help

B. tell the man next to her to shut up

C. take the wrong turns at a high speed

D. drive aimlessly for hours without stopping

2In Paragraph 3, the writer tries to tell us that ________.

A. women always have more responsibility for lives

B. women often play tricks on the police in charge

C. men are more confident and more skillful in driving

D. men usually have to be pulled over to the roadsides

3Which of the following about men drivers worries the writer most?

A. Making jokes about women.

B. Not paying full attention.

C. Not stopping for directions.

D. Getting more speeding tickets.
