I still remember how nervously I was on my first day in the new school three years before. I found it how difficult to follow my teacher in first English class. She spoke in English throughout the class ,that was totally different as the lessons I had taken before. In the morning class the next day, my English teacher came to me while she was reading the text aloud. After listen to me for a while, she gave me a big smile and said she like my voice very much. The smile shone on the whole day and for several day. Thanks to the smile, I began to be confident.

1nervously-----nervous

2before------ago

3】去掉how

4】在first前加the

5that------which

6as------from

7She------I

8listen------listening

9like------liked

10day------days

3how去掉 固定句式:find +it+形容詞+to do sth.

4infirst 之間加the 序數(shù)詞前加the,故在infirst 之間加the。

5that----which 前面整個(gè)句子做先行詞,后面用which引導(dǎo)非限制性定語(yǔ)從句,故把that----which。

6as----from 固定詞組:be different from---不同,故把as----from。

故把she ----I。

8listen----listening 介詞After+ doing sth.,故把listen----listening

9like---liked 根據(jù)said可知用一般過(guò)去時(shí)態(tài),故把like---liked

10day----days several+名詞復(fù)數(shù),故把day----days

Your friend was here a week ago, wasn't he? Of course he was.

I never met him before. He's new to me.

3. 比較three years agothree years before

three years ago用于過(guò)去時(shí)態(tài),表示從今天算起的三年以前;而three years before用于過(guò)去完成時(shí)態(tài),表示從三年以前算起的過(guò)去。

A. I met him three years ago. We've been friends for 3 years.

B. I had met him three years before. I met you in 1992.

I have read it before. It is a very good novel.I read it 3 years ago. But I can't remember everything about it.

Scientists have discovered a special biological behavior in dolphins(海豚) that could lead to a treatment for late-onset diabetes(晚發(fā)的糖尿。 in humans. Studies on dolphins found that healthy dolphins switch into a diabetic-like state overnight when they are not feeding, but return to normal when they eat the following morning.

The extraordinary finding has led scientists to suggest that dolphins have genetic switch that allows them to imitate diabetes while they are not feeding for a night, without suffering any ill effect.

If researchers can identify a similar genetic pathway in human, they may be able to develop drugs to effectively switch off diabetes. Some 2.2 million people in Britain have type 2 (or late-onset) diabetes, a figure that is expected to reach 4 million by 2025 as a consequence of rising levels of obesity(肥胖).

The tissues of people with type 2 diabetes have become resistant to insulin(胰島素)so they lose the ability to control sugar levels in their blood. The condition can damage the heart, eyes, kidneys(腎臟) and nerves and contribute to 5% of all deaths, according to the World Healthy Organisation.

Dolphins appear to imitate diabetes to keep high levels of blood sugar when food is rare. Like humans, dolphins need some sugar in their blood for their brains to function normally. Venn-Watson’s team analysed 1,000 blood samples(樣本) from 52 dolphins while they didnt eat anything overnight and fed in the morning. At night time, the dolphins’ metabolism(新陳代謝)changed greatly and showed similar characteristics to that seen in people with type 2 diabetes.

“It is our hope that this discovery can lead to new ways to prevent, treat and maybe even cure diabetes in humans,” said Stephanie Venn-Watson, director of clinical research at the National Marine Foundation in San Diego.

Expensive and new gloves allow chatterboxes(話匣子)to take the term “handsfree” to a new levelby talking into them as they make a call. The gloves are known as “Talk to the Hand” and cost 1,000 a pair. They fixed a speaker unit into the thumb and a microphone into the little finger that can be connected to any mobile handset using Bluetooth.

Artist Sean Miles designed the new gloves that double as a phone in part of his project that shows the possibilities of gadget(小裝置,小機(jī)械) recycling. He uses outdated gloves and combines them with parts from mobile handsets recycled through O2, which commissioned(承擔(dān))the project. Mobile phone users will be able to keep their hands warm while they chat without taking their phones out of their pockets or handbags.

Mr Miles designed two pairs of the new gloves—one in pink and the other in brown and yellow. They will appear in an exhibition this July and visitors will be able to win the gloves. If demand is high, they will then be produced on a larger scale. O2 Recycle, which backed the project, estimates that there are already 70 million unused mobile handsets in the UK. The service pays up to 260 to those who recycle gadgets including phones, handheld consoles, MP3 players and digital cameras.

Designer Sean Miles hopes his work will get people thinking about recycling. The 41-year-old said, “I hope that my ‘Talk to the Hand’ project will get people to think again about the waste created by not recycling gadgets. If a few more people recycle their gadgets rather than send them to trash, I think this project will have fulfilled its aim.”

Bill Eyres, head of O2 Recycle, urges people to recycle their phone responsibly. He said, “There’s a pressing need for all of us to look at outdated handsets, and all the gadgets that we move on from or upgrade each year. Whether they are consoles or cameras, we should think of them as a resource that we need to recycle responsibly rather than throw them away.”

How to Love Your Parents

Even if you think that your parents are mean-spirited at times, loving your parents is a normal and fulfilling part of life. You love them for the fact that they created you, raised you, and are in part a source of who you are. Here are some ways to love your parents.

【1】 A gentle “good morning and “I love you” will warm a coldest heart. Remember that they brought you into this world. Without your parents, we might still wander at an unknown corner in an unknown world. Respect them more and cherish these moments. You can use these moments to learn from them when you’re off on your own. It’s OK to get angry but angry actions don’t help you or your parents. Act calmly, cool off, journal about your feelings, or talk to a friend. 2

Obey their requests. It will make your attitude better and earn you more respect from them. It may seem like you are going through hell when you don’t get what you want or you have to clean. However, you had better remember they keep a roof over your head when it’s cold, raining, snowing, or too hot. Understand that parents are human beings and make mistakes.3 Since you can forgive your friends, why not forgive your parents?

Keep company with them. Do things with your parents like watching TV, or go somewhere with them. 4 Listen to their old stories and learn from them. You will find they are your teachers in this way or another.

Some people simply may not be able to love their parents.5 Seek help if you are being abused(虐待) in any way. Parents do not have a right to harm you.

A. Forgiveness is the key.

B. Tell them you love them every morning.

C. Parents will in turn express their love to you.

D. After this, share your feelings with your parents.

E. Anyway, spend as much time with them as you can.

F. Please remember parents are as important as friends.

G. There can be realistic reasons for this, family violence for example.
