9.Recently a really strange thing happened in a middle school in China's Hubei Province.Over 600students there took part in a"caring for an egg like a baby"(61)activity(active),in which they were asked to keep an egg close at hand for a month(62)withoutbreaking it.
"It's hard for parents to bring up their children,(63)but many students just ignore it,"said Liu Kang,the school's director."They should (64)be taught (teach) to be grateful to their parents, who have given them life but ask for nothing in return."
Li Ming is one of the students.His egg didn't break during the month,but he felt(65)exhausted(exhaust)."I now realize that my parents have had great difficulty(66)bringing (bring) me up.I'll do all I can to make their life easier and more (67)comfortable (comfort) when I grow up,"promised the 13-year-old boy.(68)Unluckily(luck),about 450students broke their eggs.Yan Yueming broke his egg after just five days,which made him frustrated.He said,"I can't imagine (69)how sad my parents would be if there was something wrong with me,their‘egg'!"It is time I(70)did/should do(do) something in return for their love."said Yan.

64.be taught     考查語態(tài)    此處用在情態(tài)動(dòng)詞should之后,由于主語they與謂語動(dòng)詞teach是動(dòng)賓關(guān)系,所以這里應(yīng)使用情態(tài)動(dòng)詞的被動(dòng)語態(tài);故用be taught.
66.bringing     考查固定結(jié)構(gòu)     have great difficulty( in )doing sth.
Unluckily.
70.did/should do    考查句意理解以及虛擬語氣     本句的意思是:是我該做點(diǎn)什么來回報(bào)他們的愛的時(shí)候了;由于It's time(that)表示"現(xiàn)在某人該做某事了";其中,that從句應(yīng)使用虛擬語氣,故用did/should do.

11.Can dogs and cats live in perfect harmony in the same home?People who are thinking about adopting a dog as a friend for their cats are worried that they will fight.A recent research has found a new secret of success.According to the study,if the cat is adopted before the dog,and if they are introduced when still young (less than 6months for cats,a year for dogs),it is highly likely that the two pets will get along swimmingly.Twothirds of the homes interviewed reported a positive relationship between their cat and dog.
However,it wasn't all sweetness and light.There was a reported coldness between the cat and dog in 25% of the homes,while fighting were observed in 10% of the homes.One reason for this is probably that some of their body signals were just opposite.For example,when a cat turns its head away it signals attacking,while a dog doing the same signals giving in.
In homes with cats and dogs living peacefully,researchers observed a surprising behavior.They are learning how to talk each other's language.It is a surprise that cats can learn how to talk"dog",and dogs can learn how to talk"cat".
What's interesting is that both cats and dogs have appeared to develop their intelligence.They can learn to read each other's body signals,suggesting that the two may have more in common than we previously thought.Once familiar with each other's presence and body language,cats and dogs can play together,greet each other nose to nose,and enjoy sleeping together on the sofa.They can esily share the same water bowl and in some cases groom (梳理) each other.
The meaning of this research on cats and dogs may go beyond pets-to people who don't get along,including neighbors,colleagues at work,and even world superpowers.If cats and dogs can learn to get along,surely people have a good chance.
24.The underlined word"swimmingly"in Paragraph 1is closest in meaning toC.
A.early
B.quickly
C.sweetly
D.violently
25.Some cats and dogs may fight whenD.
A.they are cold to each other
B.they look away from each other
C.they are introduced at an early age
D.they misunderstand each other's signals
26.It is suggested in Paragraph 4  that cats and dogsB.
A.have common interests
B.a(chǎn)re less different than what we thought
C.have a common body language
D.a(chǎn)re less intelligent than what we expected
27.What can we human beings learn from cats and dogs?A
A.We should learn to live in harmony.
B.We should know more about animals.
C.We should live in peace with animals.
D.We should learn more body languages.

Hi Maz and Bobby,

I don't know what you're up to this Sunday, but if you're at a loose end, come over to my place. We're going to have a barbecue.

Tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks mate, but I'm completely snowed under at the moment. I have to write an essay by Monday afternoon, so I'll be working all weekend. I've got nothing arranged for the following weekend though, so maybe we can meet then? I'll call you later.

Dear Tom,

Like Bobby, I'm a bit tied up tomorrow. Unfortunately, I have to go to my great uncle's house for a family lunch. He was ill so we thought it might not happen, but it looks as if it's going ahead. If you want to relax, I'll be in The Hart, a pub on King Street. Gloria and I are meeting there at about 8:30, as long as nothing else pops up! Don't forget it closes at 10:30 on Sundays.

As has been all too apparent in recent days at Balcombe, few issues cause greater concern than energy policy. Many village communities feel their countryside is being ruined by the power-producing machines of wind farms; yet they never take “ direct action”, even though the planning laws put them at a severe disadvantage. And the generous subsidies(財(cái)政補(bǔ)貼),which encourage the expansion of wind power, are not favorable to the village communities and set landowners in conflict with other residents.

Those who disagree with the rapid expansion of wind farms state that the damage they cause is out of proportion to the benefits they bring, because their energy output cannot match that of the carbon-based power stations they are supposed to replace. Supporters insist that wind must be part of a mix of renewables, nuclear and carbon, and that the country is committed to meeting EU(European Union) targets for non-carbon energy generation.

Against this background, the fact that there is an argument within the Government over whether to publish an official report on wind farms impact on the countryside becomes even more extraordinary. The two parties in the coalition government are in disagreement over what it should say.

We have some advice for the two parties :publish the report ,and let the country be the judge. Even if it contains evidence that wind farms are harmful, it will hardly be a pleasant surprise to people who do not like them. Equally, supporters must argue their case by acknowledging the concerns and explaining why they are either misplaced or worthy of much attention.

The suggestion that further negotiations are to take place to produce an “acceptable” report suggests that the politics of coalition government are doing the country harm in a certain way. Given the sensitivities involved ,all the information should be available so that people can reach their own conclusions, rather than being left with the suspicion that facts are being replaced by political beliefs.

1.We call learn from the first paragraph that________.

A. energy policy catches much attention of the public

B. the residents are in favor of the expansion of wind farms

C. many village communities are satisfied with the subsidies

D. the planning laws offer great benefits to the residents

2.Supporters think that the expansion of wind power_____.

A. is more rapid than that of carbon-based power

B. guarantees an increase in energy output

C. is expected to be much better than that of nuclear Dower

D. agrees with EU targets for non-carbon energy generation

3.It can be inferred from the passage that_________.

A. an official report will settle the energy problem

B. the two parties are divided over the issue of wind farms

C. the two parties have agreed on a further negotiation

D. political beliefs concerning energy issue go against facts

4.Which of the following reflects the author’s opinion?

A. Increase political impact on energy policy.

B. Release a statement of supporters on wind farms.

C. Let the nation judge the facts about wind power.

D. Leave the two parties to reach their own conclusions.

4.WASHINGTON,Nov.25 (Xinhua)--Air pollution is a major risk factor for heart disease,and women with diabetes (糖尿。 may be more likely to be influenced by its effects than others,a long-term U.S.study said Wednesday.
The study, published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, found that women with diabetes who are exposed (暴露) to air pollution for long periods may have a much higher risk for heart disease.
"We didn't expect diabetes to be the strongest factor in determining susceptibility (敏感性),"said the lead author Jaime Hart,an epidemiologist at the Boston-based Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard T.H.Chan School of Public Health.
"We looked at age, family history of heart disease, weight, smoking status and areas of the country but diabetes was the most consistent across diseases and across different size fractions of particulate matter (PM),"Hart said.
The research team explored data from more than 100,000participants in a long-term study called the Nurses'Health Study,looking at rates of heart disease,specifically rates of stroke.
They assessed long-term exposure to three different sizes of particulate matter air pollution from 1989to 2006:Fine particulate pollutant smaller than 2.5thousandths of a millimeter in diameter (PM2.5),PM10and PM2.5-10.PM10includes both PM2.5and PM2.5-10.
While all women had small increases in risk of heart events with more air pollution exposure, the increased risk was statistically significant for women with diabetes.
According to the team,an increase of 10micrograms per cubic meter of air pollution in PM2.5,PM2.5-10and PM 10will raise a woman's risk of heart disease by 44percent,17percent and 19percent,separately,if she had type 2diabetes.
The team found that these effects were greater among women 70and older and obese women.
Since the study participants were mostly white women of middle-and upper-socioeconomic status,further research will be needed to determine if these patterns are also seen in men and in racially and socioeconomically diverse populations,they added.

61.According to the study,women with diabetes may be more likely to be affected byB.
A.a(chǎn) risk factor      B.a(chǎn)ir pollution      C.heart disease      D.a(chǎn)reas
62.Which of the following was not involved in the study?C
A.Age.B.Weight.C.Height.D.Smoking status.
63.What can we learn from the passage?B
A.It is not necessary to do further research on men.
B.Air pollution puts women with diabetes at higher heart risk.
C.Most participants were women who were over 70years old.
D.The increase of PM per cubic meter has no effect on women's health.
64.In a newspaper,this passage is most probably in the part ofC.
A.Travel       B.Technology       C.Health       D.Fashion.

His worries are shared by countries around the world that are in two minds about America's genetically modified(GM,轉(zhuǎn)基因的)crops.Just last week,European Union member nations were discussing whether or not to import GM sweet corn from the US.
Ever since people started farming,they have tried to crossbreed(雜交)plants to make them stronger or better tasting.At one time,only related plants could be crossed with each other.
But when GM techniques were developed in the 1970s,scientists were able to put a single gene from a living creature into an unrelated creature.
This means they can make crops more productive and resistant to disease by adding genes from other species.They can also create food with special characteristics,such as"golden rice",which is rich in vitamin A.But many people believe GM foods are a health risk.
At the moment,the official argues that GM foods"are not likely to have an impact on human health".But there are still many questions to be answered as the foods are produced in different ways.
Some experts believe the genetic material added to plants can be absorbed by humans and do damage to our bodies.Further harm could be caused by the genes from GM plants crossbreeding with naturally produced crops.
People in China are also getting worried about GM foods.More than 70percent of the country's soybean oil is produced from imported GM soybeans.Meanwhile,a survey last November found that 12of 60famous foods sold across the country were GM products.The government has begun to introduce a marking system (標(biāo)記系統(tǒng)) for GM goods so that people can choose whether or not to eat them.

C.Besides Zambia, many countries worldwide are worried about the safety of GM foods
D.Many countries are worried about the GM techniques.
63.According to the passage,GM crops areD
A.less productive
B.rich in Vitamin B

D.not easily affected by diseases
64.Which of the following statement is NOT True?A
A.EU member nations have already imported GM sweet corn from the US.
B.Some experts believe genetic material from GM foods can do damage to human bodies.

18.In choosing a friend,one should be very careful.A good friend can help you study.You can have fun together and make each other happy.Sometimes you will meet fair weather friends.They will be with you as long as you have money or luck,but when you are down,they will run away.How do I know when I have found a good friend?I look for certain qualities (品質(zhì)) of character,especially understanding,honesty and reliability (可靠).
Above all else,I look for understanding in a friend.A good friend tries to understand how another person is feeling.He is not quick to judge.Instead,he tries to learn from others.He puts himself in the other person's place,and he tries to think of ways to be helpful.He is also a good listener.
At the same time,however,a good friend is honest.He does not look for faults (過錯(cuò)) in others.He notices their good points.In short,a friend will try to understand me and accept me.
Another quality of a friend is reliability.I can always depend on a good friend.If he tells me he will meet me somewhere at a certain time,I can be sure that he will be there.If I need a favor,he will do his best to help me.If I am in trouble,he will not run away from me.
There is a fourth quality that makes a friend special.A special friend is someone with whom we can have fun.We should enjoy our lives,and we would enjoy our friendship.That is why I especially like friends who are fun to be with.A good friend likes the same things I like.We share experience (經(jīng)驗(yàn)) and learn from each other.A good friend has a good sense of humor (幽默),too.He likes to laugh with me.That is how we share in the joy of being friends.And I know that he is looking for the same quality in me.
When I meet someone who is reliable, honest, and understanding,I know I've found a friend!
