14.I looked at my beautiful Christmas tree and sighed.It was time.The New Year was a week old and my tree still stood in the corner of our room with its collection of memories proudly displayed in a shower of colorful lights.I'd procrastinated long enough.
I got up,went to the garage and dragged all the boxes into the room.I prepared the boxes,and carefully placed the decorations of the tree in their protective packaging,pausing every few minutes to admire a favorite."Hey,little Santa!"I held the Santa from my childhood."Thanks for being my friend for almost fifty years."He was a little ragged but still gives me a flood of wonderful memories."Until next year,my dear friend."
There was collection of handmade ones.My children made in their first years of school,more than twenty years ago.Made by tiny hands,they are far from perfect in design,but every year they go on my memory tree-memories of young giggles on Christmas morning and a smiling face when they handed them to me when I came home from work."Look what we made,Daddy!""Oh!It is beautiful.Let's find a special spot on the tree for it."Every year since,they are displayed.
A few hours after I started,the filled boxes were back in the garage.The room was vacuumed and I sat staring at a barren corner.The room seemed so empty.It took me two days of work to assemble and decorate my tree,but only a few hours to take it apart.
My tree is a good marriage or a great friendship.Like the tree,they take a long time to assemble and decorate with memories,but can be torn down quickly.All it takes is an unkind word or a thoughtless act,and what once stood proudly in the glow of love comes falling down.
Every,year I have to put my tree away,but not my marriage or friendships.I take great care of those.They get to glow in the corner of my life for as long as I live.I get to analyze my tree and find memories for a few weeks every year.I can do the same with the loves in my life every day.When I held the Santa,a flood of   wonderful memories returned.The same happens when I hold my wife or see the smile of a friend across the room.
Take great care of your friendships and your marriage.Once they come down,they aren't as easy to put back together as a Christmas tree,if at all.Stand them in that special spot in the corner of your heart and admire their glow.

The New Year was a week old and my tree still stood in the corner of our room…
I prepared the boxes,and carefully placed the decorations of the tree in their protective packaging,pausing every few minutes to admire a favorite可知圣誕樹上的裝飾品勾起了作者許多美好的回憶,時(shí)不時(shí)讓他停下回想,因此在打包圣誕樹的過(guò)程中,他是"不舍的,不情愿的".
My tree is like a good marriage or a great friendship.Like the tree, they take a long time to assemble and decorate with memories, but can be torn down quickly.
Every year I have to put my tree away, but not my marriage or friendships.I take great care of those. Take great care of your friendships and your marriage得知,本文主要講了要"小心對(duì)待婚姻和友情".

9.Gregory Kloehn digs through dustbins every day,but not for the reason that most people would think. He isn't homeless. In fact he is trying to help the homeless.
Gregory began his life as a sculptor. But he often felt that his sculptures, which just stood in rich people's houses for years, lacked a meaningful purpose. So in 2011 he decided to put his artistic energies into creating homes to sell-not ordinary homes but small structures built entirely from recycled materials.
The thought of creating homes for the homeless didn't occur to him until the year 2013,when a homeless couple asked him for a tarp(防水布).Instead of a tarp,Gregory offered them something better:a small home with a water tank,a kitchen and a trap(容器) for waste. They were so grateful that Gregory decided to focus his efforts on helping house the homeless population in his city. And soon his"Homeless Homes Project"was started.
Before starting a new home,Gregory, goes hunting for materials by digging through dustbins.Everything he finds is usable-refrigerator doors become house doors; washing machine doors often serve as windows, and the tops of cars become strong roofs. He put wheels at the bottom for users to move their homes around easily. Each home takes two to three days to make.
So far Gregory has donated dozens of homes to the city's most needy. While his small lowcost mobile homes are not the final solution to the problem of homelessness, they are really practical and do provide a warm and safe place for the homeless to stay in.They are simply a way for one man to do something nice for those in need of some help.
Gregory has written a book titled Homeless Architecture, where he explains techniques to build those homes and he is now working on weekend workshops."A lot of people who hear about what I'm doing want to get involved,"he said."Maybe we can meet someplace and put a couple of homes together."

19.When early colonial settlers went to America,they took many forms of dance to  their new home.Square dancing,one of the oldest forms of American folk dancing,developed from several different Old World group dances,mainly English country dances,and the French quadrille(四對(duì)方舞).
In the American version of square dancing,four couples form a square and dance to music.An American addition to square dancing is the caller.What do you think a caller does?
The callers---someone who calls out the dance steps in time to the music---was a completely American invention.At first dancers memorized all the steps for a particular dance,but eventually the dances became so complicated that it was necessary to have someone call out cues (提示) so that dancers didn't have to remember so many steps.The caller didn't just call out"do-se-do your partner"; a good caller also came up with colorful sayings or witty lines that he said in between the cues such as"Don't be shy and don't be afraid.Swing on the corner in a waltz promenade (步伐)."A caller might also come up with new dance steps and routines.
Although popular for years,square dancing seemed to be going out of style and fading away until the early 1930s,when Henry Ford helped revive(復(fù)蘇)interest in it.Ford,the automobile manufacturer,used to vacation at the Wayside Inn in Massachusetts,where he enjoyed the dance programme run by a man named Benjamin Lovett.Ford asked Lovett to come to Detroit and teach dances,but Lovett said he couldn't because he had a contract with the inn.Ford solved that problem by buying the inn and Lovett's contract.He took Lovett back to Detroit,where together they established a programme for teaching squares and rounds.Square dancing was updated and groups began forming all over the country.

26.What does the underlined part"their new home"refer to?D
A.The United Kingdom.
B.France.
C.Africa.
D.America.
27.Why did the caller call out the steps for the dancers?D
A.Because the dance was invented by the caller.
B.Because the dancers didn't know the names of the steps.
C.Because the steps were very particular.
D.Because it was hard for the dancers to remember all the steps.
