Dear teachers and friends,

It is my great privilege to say something on behalf of all the students and teachers in the International Department of our school before the four Australian students, our good friend go back to their country. They are friendly and active, giving us lots of advice on how to communicate in English. We have benefited and learned a great deal from the activity. We will never forget the happy days when we study and play sports together. We owe a lot of thanks to them.

True friendship never ends. So I hope we can keep in touch with them. I also hope that more foreign friends come to China and communicate with us in the near future.

That’s all. Thank you.

Why Doesn’t Anybody Copy Apple?

Apple’s products are the envy of the world. They have been spectacularly successful and are widely imitated, if not copied. The minute Apple crystallizes a product, everyone knows how to compete. This idea that the basis of competition is set by Apple and then the race is on to climb the path of improvement is unquestionable. When Apple releases a product that defines a category or dramatically changes the structure of an industry, it becomes obvious what needs to be built. But what I wonder is why everyone wants to copy Apple’s products but nobody wants to copy being Apple?

I can think of two reasons. Firstly, Apple is not worth copying because it's not successful; secondly, Apple’s success cannot be copied because it is a magical process.

There is a great deal of evidence for the first hypothesis. The idea of Apple being successful is not something reflected in its stock price.Being valued lower than the average company in the S&P(標(biāo)準(zhǔn)普爾)500 indicates that to whatever degree Apple was successful in the past, it's not seen by the vast majority of observers as successful in the future. Why should one bother copying Apple if it results in being punished with a low valuation? If one works really hard at innovation and then that innovation becomes commoditized(商品化)very quickly, why should one bother?

When innovation practitioners are asked what makes Apple successful, the answers regarding the cause of this success border on the mythical. The climax of this hypothesis is the “chief-sorcerer” theory of success which places one magician, like Steve Jobs, in charge of casting all the right spells(符咒).

What about Apple’s own opinion of what makes it tick? Tim Cook refers to a great team and integration of hardware, software and services as unique Apple advantages. It’s a better explanation.Integration is something that can take a long time, but it is possible with great effort.A few companies are starting to make moves in that direction, but efforts are half-hearted.There is no “move the Earth” panic to become an integrated company from Samsung, Google or Microsoft.

My own suspicion is that Apple is more aware of what makes it special than it lets out. However, as Tim points out, it’s not a formula. It’s complex, it’s subtle, but it’s not magic. It’s a process that requires a degree of faith and courage.

1.When a new product of Apple comes out, often it ______.

A.ruins an industry dramatically

B.starts a revolution of an industry

C.puts itself in an unbeatable position

D.is soon overtaken by imitated products

2.According to the passage, other companies don’t “copy being Apple” because ______.

A. Apple is not a successful company

B. they have no access to relevant resources

C. It’s hard to find a magician like Steve Jobs

D.being Apple takes more than time and efforts

3.We can infer from Para. 5 that ______.

A.other companies are dedicated to integration

B.Apple itself is fully aware of its unique advantages

C.Apple will hold the leading position in this industry

D.other companies don't have a great team as Apple does

4.What does the author think of Tim Cook's statement?

A.Acceptable. B.Disappointing. C.Unquestionable. D.Convincing.

Sure, we've all heard that we should get more sleep. The realities of life often make it become "we should get more sleep later." 1. The result is that you wake up the next day feeling like a role of The Walking Dead. Here are four ways you can adjust your biology in order to pay less for staying up.

● Move around.

Exercising before bed is a sure way to keep awake. That's why you shouldn't do it when you want to go to sleep, and it is also why hitting the gym, or even some fast push-ups can tell your body that it's not time for bed. Being physically exhausted isn't fun when you are trying to stay up late. 2.

● Eat more protein.

Few people think about the fact that the brain and body use a lot more energy when we're awake. If you are pulling an all-nighter, you're going to need a lot more food than you are used to eating. 3. To stay awake, plan to eat larger meals than normal and to eat them more frequently.

● Drink the right stuff.

It's tempting (誘人) to switch to sugary caffeine drinks like Red Bull, but the sugar will lead to a crash. Instead, if you want to use caffeine, drink early in the evening so it'll wear off by the time you want to sleep.

4. Don't make it worse by drinking sugar.

● 5.

Turn the lights down at night because bright lights keep you awake. For three or four hours after you're exposed to bright white light, your body won't make melatonin, a must for deep sleep. You will sleep better if you turn the lights a little bit down.

A. Turn the lights off.

B. Avoid bright lights.

C. Just do enough to get energetic.

D. And your body can never bear something like that.

E. Your brain can use up to 25 percent of your total calories.

F. When you stay up late, your blood sugar becomes abnormal.

G. There is either more work to be done, or more fun to be had, or both.

Janelle was running late for work, so she just had time for a quick look at herself in the mirror as she was going out. What she saw there made her stop dead in her tracks.

Being a busy college student just one year removed from her teenage years, she wasn’t exactly obsessive-compulsive(有強(qiáng)迫觀念和行為的) about the neatness of her clothes. But her boss at the restaurant where she works saw things a little differently. He had recently lectured the entire staff on the importance of appearance, and had specifically mentioned the need for servers to wear clean, unwrinkled blouses. As an assistant manager, Janelle felt it was important to set an example for the other employees. But if she stopped to iron the blouse normally, she would be late —and work without delay was an area of even greater concern to her boss.

So she grabbed her iron and plugged it in and set it for low heat. Carefully holding her blouse away from her body, she continued to iron it while she was wearing it. It seemed like a logical answer to an urgent problem.

And it seemed to be working until Janelle tried to iron the collar and accidentally ironed her neck by mistake. Then it suddenly seemed like a really stupid idea and a really painful one as well. It took more time to treat her burn than it would have taken to iron her shirt properly. And she spent a miserable shift dealing with the pain of the burn.

We’ve all been there, haven’t we? For me it was cutting my own hair. For a former roommate it was trying to pull his own wisdom teeth. For another college acquaintance, it was trying to change the oil in his car while the motor was still running.

“There’s a right way and a wrong way of doing things,” Dad used to tell me whenever I’d spoil the look of our yard by trying out a faster, easier and more creative way of pulling weeds or edging the lawn. “If a thing is worth doing,” he said, “it’s worth doing it right.” There’s a reason why certain things are done in certain ways. Those old, boring, predictable ways work.

1.Jenelle found in the mirror that __________.

A.there were stains on her blouse

B.her blouse was wrinkled

C.she wore heavy makeup

D.she put on a wrong blouse

2.It’s learned from Paragraph 2 that______________.

A.Jenelle had no sense of responsibility at work

B.Jenelle failed to set an example for employees in daily work

C.Jenelle didn’t care about the neatness of her clothes at all

D.Jenelle’s boss put doing something on time above appearance

3.What can we infer from the fifth paragraph?

A.We all have done loads of things like Janelle.

B.We are careful enough in daily life.

C.We all have done something creative.

D.We all have tried to iron clothes while we are wearing them.

4.What does the author mainly want to tell readers in the last paragraph ?

A.Be creative. B.A bad beginning makes a bad ending.

C.Stick to old ways. D.Do things right.
