【題目】In her outstanding book, “Choose the Happiness Habit”, Pam Golden wrote, “Take the story of two twin brothers for example. One grew up and became an alcoholic (酒鬼), while the other became a successful businessman. When asked why he became an alcoholic, the alcoholic replied, “Because my father was a drunk.” However, the successful businessman’s answer was also “Because my father was a drunk.” when asked why he succeeded. The same background. The same upbringing (培養(yǎng)). However, the results were quite different. Why? The reason is that they had different choices. The brothers chose different thoughts which formed the situations they found themselves in at last, so they had different experiences.
There was a time in my life when I thought difficulty was due to “bad luck”. Have you ever heard the saying “When it rains, it pours”? That was my answer when others asked me how things were going on when I was in trouble. So what do you think I got? “RAIN”. More and more “RAIN”. I couldn’t understand why bad luck was always with me.
Pam Golden says, “You’re either living in the problem or you’re living in the solution.” Now, when I’m faced with what I used to think was a negative (消極的) situation, I use a different way to think about it. I force myself to replace those negative thoughts that make me lose heart in my mind with positive thoughts which encourage me to fight against the difficulty bravely. Sometimes I write down some ideas that may be a solution, which I combine with the lessons I have learned from the bad situations and the difficulties that troubled me in the past, and often, I find a solution to the problem soon. It seems that I should thank the difficulty I met with. The RAIN that poured in my world has become great experiences that provide me with valuable experience, from which I can benefit.
Now, it doesn’t “rain” as much in my life as it used to. In fact, most days are beautiful, cloudless and sunny! Sometimes I do get a rain, but I think it makes me stronger just like the rain helps plants grow up.

【題目】A glass a day keeps obesity(肥胖) at bay. Alcohol has always been thought to cause weight gain because of its high sugar content(含量),but new research suggests a glass a day could form part of a diet. Looking at past studies they found that, while heavy drinkers do put on weight, those who drink in moderation can actually lose weight.
A spokesman for the research team at Navarro University in Spain says, “Proper alcohol intake, especially of wine, may be more likely to protect against, rather than promote, weight gain”. The International Scientific Forum on Alcohol Research reviewed the findings and agreed with most of the conclusions, particularly that current data do not clearly indicate if moderate drinking increases weight.
Boston University’s Dr. Harvey Finkel found that the biologic mechanisms(生物學(xué)機(jī)制) relating alcohol to changes in body weight are not properly understood. His team pointed out the strong protective effects of moderate drinking on the risk of getting conditions like diabetes(糖尿病),which relate to increasing obesity. Some studies suggest that even very obese people may be at lower risk of diabetes if they are moderate drinkers.
The group says alcohol provides calories that are quickly absorbed into the body and are not stored in fat, and that this process could explain the differences in its effects from those of other foods. They agree that future research should be directed towards assessing the roles of different types of alcoholic drinks, taking into consideration drinking patterns and including the past tendency of participants to gain weight.
For now there is little evidence that consuming small to moderate amounts of alcohol on a regular basis increases one’s risk of becoming obese. What’s more, a study three years ago suggested that resveratrol, a compound present in grapes and red wine, destroys fat cells.
【1】The passage is mainly for those ______.
A. who produce wine B. who are eager to gain weight
C. who go on a diet D. who have a drinking habit
【2】The underlined phrase “in moderation” in the first paragraph means_______.
A. properly B. carefully C. excitedly D. never
【3】Why has alcohol been thought to cause weight gain?
A. Because its calories are stored in fat.
B. Because it is rich in sugar.
C. Because it changes drinking patterns.
D. Because it increases the risk of diabetes.
【4】What can we learn from the text?
A. The specific roles of different types of alcoholic drinks are very clear.
B. Resveratrol is proved to increase the risk of becoming fat.
C. The research found moderate drinking has a strong protective effect.
D. Current data clearly show that moderate drinking increases weight.
【5】What is most likely to be discussed in the paragraph that follows?
A. How to do some easy experiments.
B. How to prove the findings mentioned above.
C. How to make wine in a healthy way.
D. How to reduce the calories contained in wine.

Besides the main subjects, we can choose other subjects like Woodwork and German. Right now, I’m busy preparing myself for the A-level exam.
Please write and tell me about yourself and your school life if you are willing to be my pen friend.
Best wishes,

How to protect your ears
You and your friends are leaving a concert on a Friday night. When you get outside, your ears are ringing. You have to shout to be heard. 【1】_So no harm done…right?
Not quite. Temporary buzzing may be easy to ignore, but repeated exposure to loud noise will eventually cause serious and irreversible(無法治愈的) hearing loss. A new study conducted by researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston shows that one in five people between the ages of 12 and 19 are experiencing slight hearing loss, and one in 20 have mild hearing loss._ 【2】 __But the good news is that there plenty of ways you can protect your ears from further damage — and still listen to the music you love:
Ask around. Put your ear buds in or your headphones on, and then ask a friend next to you whether or not he or she can hear what you’re listening to.__ 【3】__Turn it down.
Buy noise-canceling headphones. A pair of ear buds or headphones that fits comfortably will limit outside noise so that you can hear your music better at lower volumes.
Take breaks.__ 【4】__So when listening to music, take your headphones off for 15 or 20 minutes and let your ears enjoy the quiet.
___【5】__You can buy a cheap pair at any drugstore as an easy way to lower volume at concerts — or while playing or practicing your own music — without changing the quality of the sound.
A. Use earplugs.
B. Keep the volume below 70 percent.
C. If the answer is yes, your music is too loud.
D. Like every other part of your body, your ears need rest.
E. But by morning, your hearing is totally back to normal.
F. Unfortunately, there’s no way to get back hearing you’ve already lost.
G.. The exposure to noise is louder and longer than in any previous generation.
