One of my. next-door neighbor is a sweet 92-year-old Polish lady. A few days ago, I came back from a trip. As I was  16 . my clothes in my room, I heard a(n)  17  , frantic(發(fā)瘋的) knock on the door. It was 10:30 pm, and I wasn’t sure who it could be. I went downstairs and  18  the peephole, and saw that it was our sweet next-door neighbor.
I quickly  19  the door, and she seemed really distressed and kept  20 , Please help me. I need your help. The fire alarm won’t go off. Please help me.” I  21  told her that everything would be okay, and  22  her to her house to see what was going on  23  the fire alarm.
She  24  that the alarm had been going on and off inconsistently(反復無常的) for the past two hours, and that her  25  to call her daughter to come and fix it was fruitless. So I took a chair from her dining room table,  26  it, and looked at the tire alarm.
After twisting the fire alarm off, I blew into it, because sometimes  27  causes it to make strange noises. She seemed  28  but was literally shaking out of fear. I asked her  29  she was okay, and she said she was  30  , so I gave her a hug. I felt her shaking in my embrace, and held her  31  for a few minutes until she stopped shaking and sighed a breath of relief.
We then  32  and talked for ten minutes, until I felt that she was okay. and safe to sleep. She was so generous with  33  for being with her, but I thanked her for  34  me that hugs are indeed good tools! So, sometimes, a(n)  35  hug is a good and powerful way to hold someone going through a difficult period.

On Friday morning, I was waiting in the corridor with my class for the physics exam. Glancing back from the front of the queue, I found my best friend Terry, who was treating me like I didn’t exist during the past two weeks,   36  all my calls and messages.
With all the students seated in the exam room, Mr. Reed, our physics teacher, talked to the class and announced the exam. I hated physics and felt it hard to   37  my paper. I was just looking up when a    38  caught my eye. I could hardly believe it! Terry had her phone on her left knee and she was reading from it. Is that how Terry always got good    39  ? After the exam, I received a text message from Terry, saying “I’m really   44  that I’ve been avoiding you lately but it’s been the hardest two weeks of my life. Will you forgive me?” At these words, from my deep heart sprang up a burst of guilt along with the belief: Friendship is an honor and a gift, and worth the effort to treasure.

Who is setting your standards for you ?
A true story has it that one elder man  36  to jog around the local high school football field. As he huffed and puffed(氣喘吁吁) along, the team was  37 . The players soon started running sprints up and down the field. The man told himself “I will 38  keep running until they quit.”
So he ran. And they ran. And he ran some more. And they kept running. And he kept running until he 39  finally run no more. He stopped in  40 . One of the players, equally out of breath, approached him and said in a crying voice, “Boy, I am so glad that you finally stopped. 41  told us we had to keep running  42 the old guy who was jogging !” He was watching them. They were watching him. He was letting them set his 43 , on the contrary, they allow him to set 44 .
My question is this: Are you keeping  45  with somebody else in your daily life? Are you 46  people to set your standards for you? What about your standards, or  47 , for moral behavior or even your way of building up your own characteristics ? Or guidelines for what kind of life  48  you want? Negative or positive? Do you keep pace with those  49  you, or do you decided yourself just 50  you will live your life? The true is that only you are  51 to determine what your standards will be.
Set your standards too low, and you will know only  52 . But set high standards and you can live an immeasurably full and  53 life. For only when you  54  the best that is within yourself, will you experience great living. Just as an old saying goes: “Think big 55 , and win big success.”
Who is setting your standards?

Joe Biggs was a butcher. His shop was in a village in the beautiful south of England, and he  31  in it for many years while his father was there. Then when his father reached the age of 65, he stopped working in the shop, and Joe was alone in it, so he had to work  32 .
Joe worked five and a half days a week. His shop  33  at one o’clock on Thursday, and it was closed the whole of Sunday. Saturdays were the  34  days.
Most of Joe’s  35  came to his shop from the nearest town, but sometimes he got up earlier than usual in the morning and  36  into the city to choose meat. It was  37  there.
Joe had a big  38  in his shop, but he tried not to buy too  39  meat at a time, and to  40  it before he bought more.
One  41  a woman came into the shop at five minutes to one. “Sorry I’m late,” she said, “but some friends have just telephoned to say that they are coming to  42  tonight, and I need more  43 .”
Joe only had one piece of meat in the shop. He had sold all the others  44  in the day. He took the piece  45  and said to the woman, “This is 6.5 pounds.”
“That piece is too  46 .” the woman said. “Haven’t you got anything bigger?”
Joe went  47  the room behind his shop, opened the refrigerator, put the piece of meat into it, took it out  48  and shut the door of the refrigerator  49 , then he brought the piece of meat back to the woman and said, “This piece is bigger and more expensive. It’s 8.75 pounds.”
“Good,” the woman answered with a smile, “give me  50  of them, please.”
