Dear Sir or Madam,

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

【答案】Dear sir or madam.

I’m more than happy to know that some American high school students are to visit our city as well as our school. I’m writing to apply to be a volunteer. I suppose I am qualified for this job.

To begin with, I can speak fluent English and I appreciate any chance to connect with native speakers. Besides, I was born and brought up here, so I have a good knowledge of the local culture, people and our school as well. As for myself, I’m active, easy-going and enthusiastic and I am always ready to help others.

I’d appreciate it a lot if I was offered this chance. Thanks again for reading this letter.

Looking forward to your reply!

Yours,

Li Hua

Scientists have proved what students have long suspected: Maths equations can actually trigger physical pain.

Regions of the brain linked with the experience of physical 1 were activated in those fearful of maths when they were presented with a tough equation, researchers have found. The higher a person’s anxiety of a maths task, the more it 2 activity in regions of their brain associated with visceral (內(nèi)臟的) threat detection, and often the experience of pain itself.

However, the researchers say their study examines the pain response associated with anticipating an anxiety-provoking event, rather than the pain associated with a 3 event itself. A maths task itself is not painful but 4 the thought of it is highly unpleasant to certain people.

“Maths can be difficult, and for those with high levels of mathematics-anxiety (HMAs), math is associated with tension, apprehension (憂慮) and fear,” the researchers said in their paper titled. When Math Hurts. “5, this relation was not seen during math performance, 6 that it is not that math itself hurts, rather, the anticipation of math is painful. These results may also provide a potential neural mechanism to explain why (people with) HMAs tend to 7 math and math-related situations, which in turn can bias (使有偏見) (those with) high levels of mathematics-anxiety away from taking math classes or even entire math-related 8 paths. We provide the first neural 9 indicating the nature of the subjective experience of math-anxiety.

Other forms of psychological stress, such as social 10 or a traumatic break-up, can also elicit feeling of physical pain.”

It seems that if the result is bad, which people work for will be meaningless. Personally speak, the process of fighting for the goal is less important than the result. When we fight for our goals, we will be devoted what we are doing and try to improve us. If we fail in the end, when we look back on the beginning, we will find that we are no longer the childish one. We have grown up. What's the more, in the process of fighting, we got close to success, as the saying goes that failure are the mother of success. So don't treat the result so serious; just enjoy the process.

【題目】The news that Li Tiejun, a father in the southwestern city of Luzhou, had his nine-year-old daughter drop out of school and homeschooled her for 11 years has aroused heated discussions online. It is reported that about 18,000 Chinese children are educated at home. With more parents and education experts dissatisfied with the current system, do you support home schooling for your child? Below are the selections of the opinions from the netizens.

Seneca

Li is a hero. But at the same time, it has to be pointed out that he was and is not the ideal teacher for his daughter. She can’t possibly learn about physics, chemistry and biology from an elderly man with no formal higher education. I wish his daughter all the success in life that she may wish to have.nit666

I was homeschooled until I was about 12. In Australia, we have a remote school option for people who live away from the cities. We were taught through mail. I would say that you can learn as much knowledge as people in a school. My life were much happier without the kind of academic pressure.

My father is the man I respect most. Strict as he may be, however he never fails to show her care and consideration. Once I broke a neighbor window. Seeing nobody around, I ran away immediately. When Dad came home, he noticed my uneasiness and asked me what has happened. I could only tell him a truth. Instead of scold, he praised my honesty and then encouraged me to apologize our neighbor. I learned from this incident that not only does Dad take care of my health and he also teaches me what to be a good citizen. How luckily I am to have such a good father!
