My nephew's 10-year-old son came for a visit one hot,July weekend. I persuaded him to inside and joined him in a game. After for an hour, I suggested that we relax for a while. I fell into my favorite recliner(躺椅)to let my neck muscles relax. He'd slipped out of the room and I was catching a few enjoyable moments of peace and quiet.
"Look,Alice,”he said as he ran over to the chair where I was sitting"I found a kite. Could we go outside and it?"
Glancing out a nearby window, I noticed it was outside.“I'm sorry, Tripper,.” I said, sad to see his eyes. "The wind is not blowing today. The kite won't fly.”
The 10-year-old replied,“I think it's windy enough. I can get it to fly,”he answered as he ran out to the back door Up and down in the yard he ran, pulling the kite to a small length of string. He ran back and forth,as hard as his ten year-old legs would carry him, looking back at the kite behind. After about ten minutes of unsuccessful determination, he came back in.
I asked, "How did it go?"
"Fine,”he said, not wanting to admit .“I got it to fly some”
As he walked past me to return the kite to the closet shelf, I heard him say under his breath, "I guess I'll have to wait for the .”
At that moment I heard another Voice speak to my . "Alice, sometimes you are just like that. You want to do it your way instead of waiting for the Wind.,,
And the voice was right. We usually want to use our own efforts to what we want to do. We wait for the Wind only after we have done all we can and have exhausted(耗盡) our own   .We must learn how to rely on Him in the first place!

Cheerful Charlie was a very special boy. When he was still in his mother’s tummy, she had an accident, which meant that Charlie couldn’t walk. But that had never been a(n)          for him; they had started calling him Cheerful Charlie because of his joyful and           nature. He really brightened everything up for those around him.
There wasn’t a postman, or a taxi driver who wasn’t            to see Charlie. “Cheer up, Mr. Postman, that way you’ll         more letters today!” he would say, or “That was great, Mr. Taxi Driver. You        that thing better than anyone else. ”
He also had great ideas and            for everything; and he shared them so generously that, just about every day in that town, someone did a great job, or             something new, thanks to Charlie’s ideas.
One day, though, he came up against a real            . A young boy came to town on his holidays. He was known as Waterworks and was a real crybaby. No matter what Charlie said to him, Waterworks would always find some               to be sad: “I don’t have many sweets… my parents didn’t buy me that toy…” Everything seemed so bad to him. But Cheerful Charlie wasn’t going to be                , and he kept spending more time with Waterworks,           trying to cheer him up, just as he did with everyone.
Then, one day, when they were together in the street, someone             a pie from a window above by chance, and it landed       on Charlie’s head. He got such a fright that he couldn’t even move his lips. He was speechless, and although Waterworks was just about to cry,   he          Charlie’s happy words so much that he finally said, “Wow, Charlie, that’s a nice clown mask(小丑面具) you just put on!”
On saying those words, Waterworks felt so          that he finally understood why Charlie was always so happy and cheerful. He realized that he was so used to Charlie’s enthusiasm that he couldn’t help but see the funny side of everything.

科目:高中英語 來源: 題型:完型填空

A few days ago, my sister Liz and I talked about Dad, and we decided to get him a little something for Father's Day. We talked about the times when we were        up and how Mom and Dad used to play the ‘good cop, bad cop’ thing on us. Dad has been a person of few words since we were       . He raised us more by        than anything else. When he spoke, though we listened, he was always mysterious and difficult to understand. There was always a(n)        meaning that I never got, but Liz always        to decipher(破解) him. By the time I got to high school, I had wanted a skateboard and I        I was too old to ask money from my parents, so I worked at a burger joint (美式漢堡店). One day, I was really angry about annoying burgers. I came home huffing and puffing(氣喘吁吁). Dad saw me and asked me what was the       . I told him that I was fed up with annoying burgers. He said that we all have to start somewhere, that we may not know it now, but the skills we learn even in a burger joint might come in handy ______in life, ‘Who knows, you might end up having to run a        or even own one when you grow up,’ said Dad. He        me down and I kept what he said in mind, even though I really didn’t agree with it.
A couple of years later, when I got to college, I worked in a restaurant. During one of the really        days that we had, we were short on kitchen staff. Our customers were getting impatient and the        were getting delayed. We were sure any minute something terrible would        out. I couldn’t stand the        any more, so I rolled up my sleeves, got myself a hair net and helped out in the hot kitchen. We caught up with the orders       . The owner saw what I did and called me over around        time. He said that he was very       . He raised my salary and made me the assistant manager even though I could only go part-time. That was        I realized that what my dad said to me all those years before was absolutely true.
I’ve never forgotten what my dad said that day. And whenever I have to do something that requires new skills, no matter how insignificant or        it seems, I have a new perspective(看法) that it might really help me later on or even right now and I just don’t know it. Experience is everything and it        a lot when you take lessons from it. That’s my life’s philosophy.
