8.It′s that time of year again-the annual 1/2Marathon in Nashville,Tennessee. This year,I had the opportunity to ride in the pace truck. This is the truck that stays in front of the fastest racer, keeping track of the average time.
"All right people, let′s go,let′s go!"People on the streets started cheering for the runners that were following us a few yards behind.I looked out the back of the truck, watching the progress of the race.About 20 racers were still sticking together in one group.I knew that would change once we got further in the race.
Riding in the pace truck was a great experience. In addition to getting to see the race from a unique perspective ( 視角),I also had the opportunity to speak with some of the coaches of the racers."The course is quite difficult because it has a lot of hills,"said Andrey Brarnoe, who was the manager for two of the men and one woman in the race."So they started running slow and are picking up in the second half."
After about 18miles,the race started getting tense. The group of racers that had stayed together for the whole race began to split up (拉開).It wouldn′t be long until a winner appeared.
That prediction came true a few miles later, when Simon Wangai pulled ahead of the rest racers.Wangai remained the position for the rest of the race, winning first place.
After the race,I spoke with Wangai, asking him what he thought as he ran ahead of the pack."I decided to pull ahead of the pack because I wanted to win,"he said.
I also had the opportunity to speak with Olena Shurkhno, the winner of the women′s race."The first goal at my bottom heart was showing a good result."said she,by adding"When runing a marathon, you′re not expecting a fast time.I changed my strategy, and I decided to run to win."
