To win an Oscar is an achievement at any age. To do so at 22, as Jennifer Lawrence has, is just amazing. Recently, the American star won Best Actress at Academy Awards for her role in the film The Silver Linings Playbook. According to Time magazine’s Richard Corliss, Lawrence is that rare young actress who “l(fā)ends a mature intelligence to any ro1e”. Though Lawrence has found great success through her big screen work, Lawrence wasn't sure what she really liked doing before the age of l4. She thought she’d go to college and may be find a career as a doctor or a travel agent.
Lawrence’s two brothers were star athletes and one of them was a straight-A student. Unlike them, she suffered through school, never quite finding where she belonged. When she was enjoying the beautiful city, a model seeker asked if he could take her picture, and the next day he called her in for an audition(試鏡).
“I read the play and it was the first time I had that feeling like I understand this.” Lawrence said. “Within 20 minutes, in the cab ride from the hotel room, I decided I didn’t want to be a model. In fact, I wanted to be an actress.” Having appreciated this young lady’s performance, the agency was so impressed with her reading that they signed her on the spot. But she insisted on finishing high school so she could give her full attention to her acting career.

Of the several films Hirokazu has made about childhood and children, this one is the most modest, but no less pleasing for its delicate style and small setting. This wise and funny film works small miracles in describing such a moment when kids turn from the wishfulness of childhood into shaping the world for themselves.
The sweetly reflective hero, a sixth-grader named Koichi, starts out by wishing for a volcano to erupt. Not just any volcano, but the one that towers above his town, smoking heavily and giving off ash. An eruption would lead to a withdrawing, which would lead, at least in his mind, to a reunion with his father and kid brother, who’ve been living in Hakata while Koichi lives with his mother and retired grandparents in Kagoshima. The volcano, knowing nothing of this, refuses to erupt, but Koichi hears of another approach to realizing the desired miracle.
One of the pleasures of I Wish is watching how kids behave — how Koichi attacks his dinner, for example. Another pleasure is rediscovering how kids think. These kids can be logical and ever so tricky. But children’s thought processes can also be fancy. A boy wishes he could play baseball like one of baseball stars, who eats curry for breakfast; so he, too, starts eating curry for breakfast, instead of practicing on the field. Another boy tries to wish his dead dog, Marble, back to life. And what does Koichi finally wish for? I wish you’d see this delightful film to find out.
1. Koichi wishes the volcano to erupt so that he can ______.
A. enjoy the wonderful scene of a volcano
B. help those who suffer from the eruption
C. get together with his family members
D. work miracles during the disaster
2.Which of the following statements is true of the film?
A. It is set in a volcano eruption.
B. It is a serious science fiction movie.
C. It shows some dull and ridiculous behaviors.
D. It shows a lively and thoughtful world of children.
3.What does the writer intend to do in this text?
A. To recommend a film.
B. To make a review on a film.
C. To share pleasures of watching a film.
D. To discuss kids’ behavior and thoughts.

Amanda Clement grew up in Hudson, South Dakota. Baseball was always her favorite sport. Once in a while her brother Hank and his friends would let her play first base in their games. More often, however, they asked her to umpire (裁判) for them, because they knew her calls would be fair and there would be no arguing.
One day in 1904, Amanda and her mother traveled to Hawarden, Iowa, to watch Hank play for the home team against Hawarden. When they arrived at the ball field, two local teams were waiting to play a preliminary (預備) game. The umpire hadn’t arrived, so Hank argued that the teams should let his sister serve as umpire. The players finally agreed.
Amanda, then sixteen and standing five feet, ten inches tall, made perfect calls. She was so good that players for the main game asked her to umpire for them and even offered to pay her. When I was three, my parents took me to have an operation in India, which stopped my eyesight from deteriorating(惡化). Several years later we moved to Pakistan, where I received 12 operations within one year and went completely blind. Later, I realized that the doctors used me as an experiment.
I met my husband when he came over from India to study. I wanted to go to India to marry him, but it was almost impossible to emigrate. I made a crazy plan to cross the borders of several countries to get to India. I was arrested in the first country I escaped to. Back in Pakistan, I lost my job and was asked to sign a “never-to-escape” promise. Instead, when I got home, I made a cup of coffee and decided to make a formal application for emigration. The chance was slim, and people who applied to go to India found it hard to find a job in Pakistan while they were waiting. In the end, my husband managed to smooth the way for my emigration. We got married and had children. But after nine years, he died of brain cancer. I was helpless for a while, and then I learned to face reality optimistically. He taught us happiness came from inside us.
Six years ago, I brought home a dog called Moritz from the seeing-eye dog centre. He was short with long ears. No one liked him because of his pathetic(可憐的)appearance. We were almost always together. Moritz could not leave me for even one minute. Now when I walk down the street, not like before, people will come up and say, “What a good seeing-eye dog!”, and have a little chat with me as a normal creature.
I’m now working for the Association of the Blind and I have many good friends, and a special friend in Hamburg. It is a wonderful feeling to speak freely with someone I can’t see, to trust one another.
1.The author went blind just because _______.
A. she was born completely blind
B. she received an operation in India
C. her parents didn’t pay attention to her illness
D. she was unluckily put to the test
2.What does the underlined part in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. It was full of hope to unite with her husband.
B. Emigrating to India was never easy at that time.
C. She was very thin and weak at that hard time.
D. There was little chance to find a job in India.
3. When the author walked down the street before, people may _________.
A. look down upon her and view her as a poor being
B. chat with her with great warmth
C. criticize how ugly her dog looked
D. respect her for her independence
4. From the text, we learn the author is ________.

C. not an obedient citizen
D. a determined and optimistic person
