Tu Youyou, the 85-year-old Chinese pharmacologist(藥理學家),received the Nobel Prize for medicine in Stockholm on December 10,2015. Tu is the first Chinese Nobel winner in physiology(生理學)or medicine. Also, in 2011, she became the first Chinese person to receive the US-based Lasker Award for clinical medicine.
Based on a fourth-century Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) text, together with her team, she managed to get artemisinin(青蒿素)from sweet wormwood through trial and error and developed an important drug that has significantly reduced death rates among patients suffering from malaria. Tu delivered a speech titled Artemisinin is a Gift from TCM to the World. She has urged more research into the benefits of traditional Chinese medicine and called for joint efforts worldwide to fight against malaria and develop more potential uses for TCM, which she called a "great treasure" with thousands of years' history and empirical knowledge. She said that by combining TCM with modem scientific technologies, "more potential can be discovered in searching for new drugs " .
According to the WHO, more than 240 million people in sub-Saharan Africa have benefited from artemisinin, and more than l. 5 million lives are estimated to have been saved since 2000 thanks to the drug. Apart from its contribution to the global fight against malaria, TCM played a vital role in the deadly outbreak of SARS across China in 2003.
Besides treating viruses, TCM has been most effective in diagnosing diseases, cultivating fitness, treating difficult multisource illnesses, and using nonmedical methods such as acupuncture (鐘刺療法) and breathing exercises.
However, TCM, which is based on a set of beliefs about human biology, is seldom understood or accepted by the West. Tu's success will bring more recognition and respect for TCM, experts say. The Western world should learn to appreciate the value of the treasures of TCM, which will lead to more basic scientific research into ancient TCM texts and ways to explore research findings worldwide.
1.In this passage the author mentions _ prize( s) that Tu Youyou received.
A. one B. two C. three D. four
2.The underlined word "malaria" in Paragraph 2 refers to "a kind of ".
A. medicine B. animal. C. plant D. disease
3.What can we learn from the passage?

B. Nothing remains to be done in researching into TCM theories and texts.
C. More research into the value of TCM should be carried out worldwide.
D. TCM only contributes to the fight against malaria and SARS in China.
4.What's the passage mainly about?
A. TCM is based on thousands of years of practice in China.
B. Nobel winner, Tu Youyou, strongly supports TCM research.
C. Artemisinin is now widely used to fight against Malaria.

A new graph has revealed exactly how long you’11 need to sweat it out in the gym to neutralize (抵消) swallowing a favorite fast food.
While eating fried chicken, pizza and burgers will all entail a gym session of over an hour doing cardio(有氧運動)or lifting weights, women have it far harder than men and must work extra hard to banish calorie-packed meals.
After a classic McDonald's favorite, the Big Mac, men would need to do 42 minutes of cardio or 57 minutes of weightlifting.
As for women, fifty one minutes of cardio would help counter the 24 grams of fat in a Big Mac---over a quarter of the recommended daily allowance - --or an hour and eight minutes of weightlifting.
However, the 450g Tesco chocolate cake was by far the worst offender. Clocking in at a whopping 1,710 calories and 90 grams of fat, only a hardcore gym session is going to shift the calories you’ve absorbed from this dessert. The average woman would have to lift weights for almost four hours to work off the calories in this cake.
Comparatively a chocolate bar seems healthy, with 237 calories which would take 25 minutes for the average woman to run off. Alternatively you could spend thirty three minutes doing weightlifting exercises.
Men will have to complete 40 minutes of cardio and 53 minutes of weightlifting while women will have to complete 48 minutes of cardio and 64 minutes of weightlifting against the calories in French fries.
1.The fat of the recommended daily allowance for women is _________grams.
A .18 B. 20 C. 24 D. 30
2.According to the passage, __________is the unhealthiest food.
A. French fries B. the Big Mac
C. a chocolate bar D. Tesco chocolate cake
3.Compared with men, women must spend ________to consume the calories in French fries.
A. 11 more minutes lifting weights
B. 8 less minutes doing cardio
C. 8 more minutes lifting weights
D. 11 less minutes doing cardio
4.The main purpose of the passage is to___________.
A. inform us to stay away from fast food
B. offer us advice on how to keep healthy
C. tell us some information about fast food
D.suggest what we do to work off the calories

I was driving home the other day on a sunny afternoon. I had a smile on my face as I sang along to the songs on the radio. It was a beautiful day that I felt full of happiness. My good mood ended, however, when the radio station took a news break between songs. Then suddenly I found myself listening to yet another story of a rich famous man who had broken the law. I shook my head as I came to a red traffic light.
As I pulled to a stop I noticed four leather-jacketed bikers. They were standing in the middle of the road with two on either side of the light. They looked rough and dangerous, but as I got closer I noticed each one was holding their helmet in their hands. I rolled down my window as one approached my car. “We are the Brother’s of the Wheel”, he said. “We are collecting money for a Christmas Toy Drive for needy children”. As I pulled a dollar out of my wallet I looked past his beard and tattoos and into his eyes. They shined with a goodness and kindness that came right from his soul. I dropped the money in his helmet and waved to the other bikers as I drove off. My good mood had returned. My faith in mankind had been improved. And I had to remember again never to judge people by their appearance.
Our society often judges books by their covers, but God reads what is written in our hearts and souls. Perhaps one day we will all learn to see the world through the same eyes. Perhaps one day we will realize that looks matter little and actions matter much.
1.The writer’s good mood ended when __________.
A. he heard news between songs
B. he had to stop at a red traffic light
C. he heard a rich man broke the law
D. he saw four leather-jacketed kids in need
2.What were four bikers doing at the traffic light?
A. Having a bicycle race in the street.
B. Selling helmets to the passers-by.
C. Raising money to help kids in need.
D. Preparing for Christmas holidays.
3.The writer wants to tell us that we should ___________.
A. have faith in young people
B. judge others by their actions
C. change our attitude to society
D. manage to help others in need
