【答案】Dear Mary,

How’s everything?

From your last E-mail I know you are very into volleyball and especially want to know about the Chinese Women Volleyball team. So I’m writing to share something related to it with you.

As is known to the Chinese people, the Chinese Women Volleyball team is one of the most wonderful sport teams in China. Once between 1981and 1986 they had a splendid history, winning the world champion five times on end, which made it well-known to the world. But in the 1990’s they failed again and again and never succeeded. However, no matter whatever difficulties they met with they didn’t lose heart. Thus, on September 29th they won the volleyball world cup champion a second time, which means a special gift to the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC).

From above we can know that only if we learn from failure ,believe failure is the mother of success and strive for success can we achieve our ideal dreams.

Best wishes!

Yours sincerely,

Li Hua

【題目】閱讀下面短文,根據(jù)所給情節(jié)進(jìn)行續(xù)寫(xiě),使之構(gòu)成一個(gè)完整的故事。

I was on a tour of Italy with my friends. Our car pulled to a stop at the beach. I got out, carrying my guitar and saw the blue Adriatic Sea. Waves smashed(撞擊) against large rocks that formed a jetty(防波堤). People said this beach was known for its fierce undertow(回流). I trembled. Nothing frightened me as much as water.

I’d always loved water and been a good swimmer until last summer, when I'd decided to climb up to the highest diving board at a city pool. I'd jumped into the water. The next thing I knew was my brother was pulling me out of the pool. From then on, I stayed away from the water.

“Kevin, are you coming? " My friend Brad called.

“Yeah,” I said. "Just enjoying the view.” From dry land, I added silently.

Just then I heard shouting. People were running into the sea.

I saw something moving up and down amid the waves. There was a little boy out there! The rescuers were fighting against the tide(潮水). They’d never get to him in time. They might not get to him at all with the undertow.

I looked back at the boy. His head popped up, then a wave crashed over him and he disappeared for a moment. I had to do something.

The jetty! The boy was close to it. From there maybe I could help. I raced down the beach, out onto the jetty, and it hit me: Water! My hands got sweaty and I felt sick to my stomach. I stopped short.

The people in the water weren't making any headway against the waves. I was the only one who saw that going out onto the jetty was the fastest way to reach the drowning boy. Though I was as terrified as he, I tried to remember the life guard training I’d had as a teenager.

Sucking in(吸氣) a deep breath, I threw myself into the water. As soon as I went under it, I felt like I was back in that city pool, breathless, struggling. Focus, I shouted in my head. Where is he?

【題目】Our plan was to drive into Cambridge, catch the 7:34 train to Liverpool Street Station, then to separate and meet again for lunch. We should have arrived at Liverpool at 9:19, but due to a typical London fog, the train had to move along so slowly that it was not until 10:30 that it got there. In spite of our late arrival, Joan, my wife’s sister, decided that she would go to see the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London while we went shopping. It was only after her sister had disappeared into the fog that my wife realized that we hadn’t decided where we should meet for lunch. Since I had our three tickets for the concert in my pocket, this was indeed a problem. There seemed to be nothing we could do except taking a taxi to the Tower of London, and try to find her there. Needless to say, we didn’t find her.

It was now one o’clock, and the concert began at 2:30. “Perhaps she will think of waiting outside the concert hall,” suggested my wife hopefully. By this time the fog was so thick that road traffic had to stop, and the only way to get there was by underground railway. Hand in hand we felt our way along the road to where we thought the nearest station should be. An hour later we were still trying to find it. Just as I was about to lose my temper completely when we met a blind man tapping his way confidently through the fog. With his help we found Tower Hill tube station just fifty yards down the road.

By now it was far too late even to try to get to the concert hall before the performance began at 2:30, so we decided to return to Cambridge. It took seven long hours instead of the usual two to make that journey. Nor were we able to get any food and drink on the train. Tired and hungry we finally reached home at ten, opening the door to the sound of the telephone bell. It was Joan; she had seen the Crown Jewels, had managed to get another ticket for concert, and had had a wonderful dinner at a restaurant near the hotel where she decided to stay for the night. Now she was ringing to discover whether we had had an equally successful day.

1Why was Joan separated from her sister and her brother-in-law?

A.they could not see each other because of the fog.

B.Joan had not seen Crown Jewels.

C.They planned to do different things until lunch time.

D.The writer didn’t want to go to the concert.

2What did the writer plan to do in the afternoon?

A.Go to the concert.B.See the Crown Jewels.

C.Return to Cambridge.D.Go shopping.

3The reason why they didn’t all meet for lunch was that _______.

A.They lost their way in the fog

B.they forgot to make necessary arrangement

C.they waited at different places and didn’t meet each other

D.the couple couldn’t find the underground station

4It’s quite clear that for Joan the trip to London had been ________.

A.spilt by the fogB.quite tiring

C.rather disappointingD.very enjoyable

My family and I go to the Big Island of Hawaii in the United States every year. Each year, we do the same things-spend time at the beaches, surfing and fishing. On this trip, however, my family got tired of this holiday style and wanted to do something different. We learned from a local that there was a hot spring on the island called the Boiling Pots. Without doing any research, we decided to set off on an adventure to that spot.

We drove to the destination, but were surprised to find that the area was closed off by a fence (柵欄). Reading the sign placed in front of the gate, we found out it was, in fact, a forbidden area that lay at the bottom of the mountain. And we were on the mountaintop. Seemingly out of nowhere, a strange man came up to us. He told us he would go to the Boiling Pots and that he would show us the way down there if we would just jump over the fence and follow him. After some discussion, my family, 8 members, followed the man past the fence.

The 'path' was a slope (斜坡) covered in mud and high grass. Several times, our members fell but nobody gave up and turned back because it seemed an amazing adventure.

After about one hour's walk, we arrived at the bottom finally, but a large river stopped us. The strange man went to borrow a boat from his friend living nearby. We stood on the bank, waiting for him and joking that we could swim across the river.

Just then, I heard the voice of my father screaming at us to move. I looked up to the sky and saw a large tree falling towards us. I ran forward, pushing the people in front of me. I fell to the ground, hearing a loud sound of the tree hitting the ground, along with pieces of branches surrounding us.

【題目】Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.

Ban the Bag!

Standing in line at the grocery store last week, I watched the woman in front of me buy a tube of toothpaste. As the clerk placed her purchase in a plastic bag, I couldn’t help wondering how long it would take for that bag to end up in the trash. Then I noticed the big purse the woman was carrying and wondered why she had needed a plastic bag at all.

People have come to rely on plastic bags as everything from shopping bags for groceries to trash-can bags. Although plastic bags can be recycled, only about one percent of those used in the United States are. Instead, after helping people transport items from one place to another, most are thrown away. They end up in landfills, where it can take a plastic bag up to a thousand years to decay. Some bags end up elsewhere in the environment, sticking to trees and fences, blocking rivers and oceans, or floating along city sidewalks.

Plastic bags harm the environment in several ways. First, they break down into particles that pollute our soil and water. Because most plastic bags are made of polyethylene, a product derived from crude oil (原油) or natural gas, they waste nonrenewable resources. Plastic bags can also harm animals. Scientists estimate that more than one million sea animals, including whales, seabirds, and turtles, die each year from intaking or becoming stranded in plastic.

People all over the world are starting to recognize the problems associated with plastic bags. Countries such as China, South Africa, Switzerland, and Uganda are taking action and banning the bags. Other nations, including Italy and Ireland, have been trying to restrict the use of plastic bags by taxing them. In the United States more and more communities are ridding themselves of plastic bags. Now more and more people are also purchasing inexpensive, reusable bags and using them when they shop. If we all take this simple step, we can be a part of a “green” revolution.
