Tips for Getting the Most out of a “Photo walk”
Photo walks are a great way to get out and get clicking, either by yourself, with a couple of friends, or with a group of people. They can be wonderful for seeing a neighborhood or wild space with new eyes, getting inspired to be more creative with angles and subjects, as well as simply spending time with fun people. Here are a few tips for making sure you get the most out of a photo walk.
Pick a spot with lots of interest
A photo walk is a perfect excuse to go exploring a new area. However, if you’ve never been to the scene before, you might be disappointed at the final photos. Base your chosen spot on what you feel like photographing---whether that is buildings, people, busy streets, a festival, nature and so on, and make sure the place you’re heading for is filled with what you most want to shoot. It will pay off in a satisfying walk if you research your chosen spot beforehand and know what to expect.
Invite anyone, no matter what their skill level is
You’ll be surprised at what you learn from people who seem to know nothing about photography. Even with a simple camera, they can catch some outstanding photos. So bring Aunt Betty or your 10-year-old nephew or anyone else whose company you might enjoy on a walk and keep an open mind.
Don’t forget them
Be sure to take the important small things, such as an extra memory card (or two), an extra fully charged battery, comfortable shoes and clothing. And remember a notepad and pen for taking down notes about places, times, conditions, the names and information of people you meet and any other information you might want to remember about certain shots.
Keep an eye out for danger
Apart from watching the sky for rain, you’ll want to watch out for other people as well. Smartphones are always a target for thieves but they have become much clearer about the value of digital cameras. Don’t make yourself a target by standing for a very long time holding your camera out in front of you. If you’re in an area that is really busy or you aren’t super comfortable, then just be careful about when to use your camera. Imagine your shot in your head before holding up your camera, or use a camera belt wrapped around your wrist or shoulder.
【1】To choose a place for a photo walk, you are suggested to _______.
A. spend time discussing with fun people
B. decide the place on your interest

D. find a new area
【2】The people you go photo walking with _______.

【題目】It’s generally believed that people act the way they do because of their personalities and attitudes. They recycle their garbage because they care about the environment. They pay S5 for a caramel brul6e latte because they like expensive coffee drinks.
It’s undeniable that behavior comes from our inner dispositions (性情),but in many instances we also draw inferences about who we are, as suggested by the social psychologist Daryl Bern, by observing our own behavior. We can be strangers to ourselves. If we knew our own minds, why would we need to guess what our preferences are from our behavior? If our minds were an open book, we would know exactly how much we care about the environment or like lattes. Actually,we often need to look to our behavior to figure out who we are.
Moreover, we don’t just use our behavior to learn about our particular types of character we infer characters that weren’t there before. Our behavior is often shaped by little pressures around us, which we fail to recognize. Maybe we recycle because our wives and neighbors would disapprove if we didn't. Maybe we buy lattes in order to impress the people around us. We should not mistakenly believe that we always behave as a result of some inner disposition.
Whatever pressures there can be or inferences one can make, people become what they do, though it may not be in compliance (符合)with their true desires. Therefore, we should all bear in mind Kurt Vonnegufs advice: “We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be. ’’

C. One recycles plastics to protect the environment.
D. One buys latte out of true love of coffee.
【3】What can be inferred from the underlined sentence in the passage?
A. We fail to realize our inner dispositions.
B. We can be influenced by outside pressures.

【題目】I believe the very nature of writing is to set the writer free, not to impress readers. I encourage my students to write freely. By now we taste the good of free writing and enjoy it very much. And I imagine you may have tons of questions about free writing. First, how to improve my logic? 【1】The power of writing has to do with its emotion, and logic, and therefore we try extra hard to be logical — but this kind of forced logic is not something we can force on ourselves, or on our writings. When we let our emotional voice come out freely, our logical voice will also come out — that is the charm of free writing. Read your own free writings, you will find many free writings are quite logical indeed. You are not that illogical as you thought of yourself.
【2】Yes, sometimes our ideas are boring, and sometimes we are boring people — so what? Who says we have to be amazing all the time? Let’s respect our human reality. The good thing we need to do is to continue to write patiently. Persistence wins the battle. Sometimes the idea may seem boring to us, but as we continue to write, something else will come up. 【3】Our writing does not have to be immortal(不朽的) or amazing. Writing is just a way to express ourselves. Please don’t worship writing.
Now, what if my writing often shows my dark side that I don’t want to see at all?
【4】As human beings, we all have our dark sides. What is the right way for us to become better people? To face them honestly or to hide them and pretend they never exist? Honesty is always the best policy. Our dark sides need to be expressed, and free writing is a perfect outlet. The miracle is, after you express yourself truthfully, you will have less negative emotions, be more at peace with yourself, and have more compassion(同情) for others. 【5】 Many of my students have experienced the healing effects of free writing. And I believe you will experience the same wonderful healing.
A. This is a very honest question.
B. Logic is only one aspect of writing.
C. Then, what if my ideas are boring?
D. And free writing is exactly the opposite.
E. We write to free ourselves, and also to free others.
F. Have you ever wondered why free writing sets us free?
G. Our goal is not to amaze people, but to express ourselves.
