【題目】 Can you imagine being a billionaire at the age of 21? Entrepreneur (企業(yè)家), social media star and model Kylie Jenner has done just that. According to the business magazine Forbes, Ms Jenner has become the world’s youngest self-made billionaire. She is so successful that she became a billionaire two years younger than Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. She made the majority of her fortune from her best-selling cosmetics (化妝品) business Kylie Cosmetics, which she started at the age of 15. She founded and owns the beauty company, which is estimated to be worth around $900 million.

Kylie Jenner was born in August 1997. She got into business at a young age. When she was 14, she created a line of clothing for a fashion brand. A year later, she launched her own cosmetics line called Kylie Lip Kits, which transformed into Kylie Cosmetics.

Jenner has been on TV screens since she was 10. Time magazine listed her as one of the most influential teens in the world. Today, Ms Jenner also has successful careers as a model, TV reality show star and social media personality.

When the magazine first reported last summer that Jenner would take over the title, she was met with debate from critics who argued over whether her success was “self-made” or merely because of being born into an already famous and wealthy family.

“I can't say I’ve done it by myself. I don’t have any inherited (通過繼承得到的) money, but I have had a lot of help and a huge platform,” Jenner told Forbes when talking about her billionaire status. “I didn't expect anything. I did not foresee the future. But the recognition feels really good. That’s a nice pat on the back.

Now, everyone you know is 7 arm’s reach, taking that certain psychological feeling out of seeing people. You can see them every second of every day, and hear nearly every single thought of theirs just as they hear 8 (you).

【題目】In 1971, UN scholar Paolo Lugari started an eco-social experiment in Gaviotas, Colombia. Located in one of the most extreme climates, Gaviotas was described as a sustainable, self-sufficient village in an area that Lugari called ‘just a big, wet desert’.

‘They always put social experiments in the easiest places,’ Lugari said.’We wanted the hardest place. We figured if we could do it here, we could do it anywhere.’

‘Lugari just thought that someday the world would become so crowded that humans would have to learn to live in the planet's least desirable areas,’ wrote Alan Weisman, author of Gaviotas: A Village to Reinvent the World.

Today, Gaviotas is an eco-village with about 200 people. They farm organically. They use wind and solar power. Since 2004, Gaviotas has been 100% fossil fuel independent. The residents also enjoy free housing, schooling, and community meals. Shockingly, there are no weapons, no police, no jail and no mayor. But though these elements would make any social experiment a success, perhaps the most remarkable accomplishment is the planting of 1.5 million pine trees and palm trees. The various results of this new tree growth have been incredible. The shade of the trees has inspired the return of many rainforest species that were once native to the region. Additionally, the residents of Gaviotas enjoy a sustainable source of income from the resin(松香) harvested from the trees.

The United Nations named Gaviotas a model of sustainable development. The Colombia novelist and Noble Prize winner Grabriel Marquez called Lugari the ‘inventor of the world’.

A new study by a team of researchers has found that ‘nature's capacity to store carbon is steadily falling as the world's farmers expand croplands at the cost of the native ecosystem such as forests’.

Considering this disturbing fact—and as the world population increases towards an estimated 9 billion by the year 2050 and global warming continues to increase the planet's surface temperature—Gaviotas stands as one shining example of how things could be different.

3The fourth paragraph is intended to tell us ________.

A. the income of people in Gaviotas

B. the public security situation of Gaviotas

D. the living conditions of people in Gaviotas

4What is the passage mainly about?

A. A village that reinvented the world.

【題目】 Imagine a small group of people with a shared passion for the same craft. They all have different skills and approaches, but they come together to share skills, share stories, and share in the joy of making something.

Modern maker culture is filling headlines and lab spaces all over the world. The way makers communicate with each other has changed over time. In the past, skills mainly came from personal sit-downs with members of the group. But sometimes a teacher wasn’t available, or the one available didn' t know how to do the skill others wanted to learn.

Today a teacher doesn' t even have to be in the same country or occupy the same decade as the students. Thanks to the work of people who take the time to break down and share the details of their craft, an interested individual can learn anything. Guides may range from videos to diagrams and text. Regardless of the media, maker resources are meant to be shared.

One of the features of the maker movement is the crossover between different interests. Perhaps a passion for cars and for leathercraft can result in a truly custom interior (定制的內(nèi)飾). Perhaps a love of knitting (編織)and robotics will result in a tiny ——but very mobile ——robotic furry cat.

And once you have started your creation, finding a community to share with is no longer limited to the people nearby. Modern makers have been sharing videos of their progress online for years, contributing greatly to the rapid spread of the maker movement. As different as the participants might be, they share enthusiasm, support, and a willingness to try.

Imagine making a ping-pong table together with your makers' team. One group builds the basic frame. Another group takes on the responsibility of painting. You knit the net. There is joy in just giving it a try. It will remind you of childhood creations. Whether you are an experienced programmer or just picking up a hammer for the first time, it is never a bad time to come up with an idea, try something, and share the results.

1How did makers communicate with each other in the past?

A.By meeting face to face.

B.By asking personal questions.

C.By visiting a teacher together.

D.By sitting together in a classroom.

2What does the underlined word " crossover" in Paragraph 4 mean?

A.Exchange.B.Difference.

C.Combination.D.Independence.

3What greatly speeds up the spread of modern maker culture?

A.The sharing of videos on the Internet.

B.The development of education.

C.The increasing willingness to share.

D.The increasing number of participants.

4Why does the author mention making a ping-pong table in the last paragraph?

A.To advise us to start small.

B.To inspire some creative ideas.

C.To stress the importance of childhood creations.

D.To encourage us to join in the maker movement.
