【題目】Everyone wants to be happy, but not everyone can make it. Do you want to have a good mood every day? If so, the following steps will be useful to you.

Be grateful.

1 They can be simple things like the purple flower on the sidewalk, the beautiful sunset, and the hot shower you take every day. When you have a grateful heart, you’11 cherish them and be naturally filled with happiness.

2

When you put your mind, heart and soul into what you’re doing, you’re creating a happiness state—called the “flow”. When you’re living in the flow, you’re less likely to mind what others may think about you, and less bothered by unimportant things. The result? More happiness, of course!

Become a problem solver.

Happy people are problem solvers. 3 Instead, they face up to the challenge and channel their energies into finding a creative solution. By becoming a problem solver, you’ll build up your self-confidence and your ability to accomplish whatever you determine to do.

Practice forgiveness.

Hatred and anger are forms of self-punishment. When you forgive, you’re actually practicing kindness to yourself. 4 Everyone makes mistakes. It’s through our mistakes that we learn and grow to become a bigger and better person.

Give back.

Doing good is one of the surest ways to feel good. According to Harvard, when people do good, their brains become active in the very same reward center that is stimulated when they experience other rewards. 5

A. Go with the flow.

B. Focus on what you are doing.

C. And most importantly, learn to forgive yourself.

D. When they face a challenge in life, they don’t fall into a sad state.

E. When they meet with difficulties, they will solve them on their own.

F. So It’s not a surprise that people who care more about others are happier.

G. Slow down, look around, and pay attention to the little details in your life.

【解析】本文是一篇說(shuō)明文。文章主要講述了如何成為一個(gè)快樂(lè)的人。

1根據(jù)第二段中的 “They can be simple things like the purple flower on the side walk, the beautiful sunset, and the hot shower you take every day” 以及 G 項(xiàng)中的 “the little details” “simple things”的對(duì)應(yīng)關(guān)系可知,G項(xiàng)符合語(yǔ)境。

2根據(jù)第三段的內(nèi)容尤其是“When you put your mind, heart and soul into what you’re doing, you’re creating a happiness state”可知,當(dāng)你全身心投入一件正在做的事的時(shí)候,你就會(huì)創(chuàng)造一種開心的狀態(tài)。由此可知,本段主要講的是要關(guān)注你正在做的事情,故B項(xiàng)符合語(yǔ)境。

3根據(jù)小標(biāo)題 “Become a problem solver” 及空后的 “Instead, they face up to the challenge and channel their energies into finding a creative solution” 可知,此處所填內(nèi)容應(yīng)是與解決問(wèn)題有關(guān)的,且要與后文構(gòu)成轉(zhuǎn)折關(guān)系,故D項(xiàng)當(dāng)他們?cè)谏钪杏龅教魬?zhàn)的時(shí)候,他們不會(huì)陷入悲傷的狀態(tài)符合語(yǔ)境。

4根據(jù)小標(biāo)題 “Practice forgiveness” 及空前的 “When you forgive, you’re actually practicing kindness to yourself.”和空后的“Everyone makes mistakes” 可知,每一個(gè)人都會(huì)犯錯(cuò)誤,但最重要的是學(xué)會(huì)原諒自己。故C項(xiàng)符合語(yǔ)境。

5根據(jù)最后一段中的 “According to Harvard, when people do good, their brains become active in the very same reward center that is stimulated when they experience other rewards” ,在結(jié)合小標(biāo)題 “Give back”可知,當(dāng)人們做好事時(shí),正是在同樣的大腦的獎(jiǎng)勵(lì)中心,他們的大腦會(huì)變得活躍,就好像當(dāng)他們經(jīng)歷其他獎(jiǎng)勵(lì)時(shí)大腦所受的刺激一樣,空后應(yīng)該是得出的個(gè)結(jié)論,并且與“做好事有關(guān),故F項(xiàng)符合語(yǔ)境。

【題目】A year ago, Marian Wilson was just-a university student looking for a quiet and peaceful place to study, but it seems she wasn’t the only one. Her once quiet study room became a busy eating and meeting place. Now she has turned it into a book cafe. Helen Sheldon talked to Marian just before the opening of the cafe. Her study room has been one of the most popular meeting places for university students. It all started a year ago when she was preparing for graduation, she was looking for a place to study and write her final project. She couldn’t stand the dark unfriendly feeling of the library. She preferred a comfortable, sunny study room so she rented the top floor of an old house near the university and spent her afternoons reading books and working on her project. Then word spread and her friends started turning up. It was a great place to relax, talk and compare ideas. They even started leaving their books behind and leaving some money for the things they used, like coffee and pens etc. She also doesn’t want a stressful nine-to-five job. She’s trying to find a lifestyle that suits her.

She knows she’ll enjoy it. It’s going to be a challenge but, hopefully, she’ll also have time to write. Actually, She wants to be a writer but she knows it’s difficult to make a living doing that. There’s a need for relaxing places like this for people - especially students - to eat, talk and have fun without spending too much money. If the feeling of the place is right, people are going to come to the cafe. Anyway, it’s more than just a business decision. It’s also a decision about the lifestyle she wants to have and about trying to create something new and different.
A. The mistaken belief
B. The need for tolerance
C. Unpunctuality at dinners
D. Punctuality and confidence
E. Self-discipline and punctuality
F. Avoid anxiety by being punctual
1

There is the belief that, if you arrive at an appointment late, you will be considered important. This is a mistaken view. Being unpunctua

l, we are not respectful of others ; we are interfering (擾亂)with another man's time. We must realise that keeping appointments or being punctual is a contract that is silently agreed and we are expected to respect this contract. It is only natural that we lose faith, trust and confidence in a person who is tardy(延遲的).

2.
To be punctual one has to have self-discipline(自律), and the lack of it affects others. A school boy or girl is unpunctual because he or she does not have the necessary human virtue of self-discipline. It is also a mark of disrespect for a system or an institution. Unpunctual people seldom realise that their habit cause problems to others. A salesman who is not punctual may not make a sale if he arrives late for an appointment. If one is late for a job interview, it is not likely that he will get the job.
3.
Being punctual, we can avoid anxiety. Imagine the anxiety if you do not want to be considered unpunctual. You will be anxious if you
set out for a dinner late. The person who sets out late might be careless in driving. He will ignore traffic rules. A traffic jam, flat tyres, etc.
can delay him further. Happy and calm is the man who takes all these possibilities into consideration and arrives at the appointment either
early or on time.
4.
Many of those who attend dinners are notorious (聲名狼藉的)for unpunctuality. They ignore the appointed time and leave their homes only after the fixed time. They are indifferent to the inconvenience caused to others. If the self-centred guest arrives late, the nine others at the table set for ten will have to wait. The host is put in an unpleasant situation and this man seldom thinks of the inconvenience caused to all -the waiters, the management staff, etc. It is necessary for us to think of others and be considerate to them.
5.

However, we cannot always be intolerant (無(wú)法容忍的) of tardiness, for ordinary living requires some tolerance. There can be a busy executive who fights to keep to his schedule. Such a person may be forgiven if he is late, but not those who are deliberately late to create impression.

In modern society, punctuality is a necessary virtue. It is a recognition of the importance of other people.
